Shippin' Out: February 14-20: Aliens vs. Predator, SOCOM PSP

I tried the AvP demo and it was a lot of fun. I like the way the three races all play and feel different. Playing as an Alien and sneaking across the wall and then down behind a human was the most fun I've had in a while. In spite of reviews, I'm picking this up. The infection MP game looks great.

I decided to take a risk on AVP despite the iffy reviews and I have to say so far so good, though I'm just in the beginning of the colonial marine story and have yet to see how the rest of the package comes together, the aliens are quite frightening, they stick to the shadows and will creap up on you from the walls and ceiling if you're not careful, this gameplay is keeping me on my toes which I like, they're hard to kill and will fight to their last breath, despite the 99 round clips on the pulse rifles it takes quite a few bullets to put one down as they're quite agile, my only criticism so far is that my pulse rifle feels like the only thing keeping me alive and I'm constantly worried about running low on ammo, but that kind of adds flavor to the game, I just hope it's not a long term issue. Maybe the smart gun and flamethrower will help out more in the long run depending if/when I get them and how effective they are. It's really a dark game, lots of shadows, which scares me ^_^ my only complaint is you can only use 1 flare at a time which you have unlimited of but are so useful as the flashlight just doesn't cut it. I love the horror of seeing all these dots on your radar, chucking a flare and seeing several aliens crawling at you on the walls and ceiling. The one thing I don't like is how the pulse rifle fires, it's hard to burst effectively meaning most the time you'll stick to spraying which really eats up ammo, guess that's my only other complaint. Worth checking out!

i went shopping with a few hunder bucks to blow just on games this week end. and couldnt force myself to spend 60 bucks on any game. not sure whats wrong with me. ive bought hundreds of games in the past for full price and never looked back. but this gen i just cant do it. maybe its the fact as soon as you pay 60 bucks it goes on sale for 39.99 a month or 2 later. or its on sale like black friday and you cant get the game then it goes back up to 60. or the fact that alot of these games are turning into madden franchise type deals. with a new game coming out every year. devs need to learn from nintendo and how they treat mario, zelda, metriod. one or 2 games a gen to keep em fresh. use dlc as a tool to keep the gamers happy with your prized franchises. not as a tool to milk gamers for something you could have just put on the disc.

AvP wasn't that bad. I thought it was enjoyable. Nothing beats the originals though

I seen the demo and read the reviews and I more than likely will not be buying AvP until it hits the bargain bin. For me it is not worth me spending my money on.

@Rottenwood The IGN UK review was quite positive (I believe they gave the game an 8.1), but you're right; fans of the original title or of the movies will most likely pick this up regardless of what critics say. I'll wait till the inevitable price drop before making a purchase. Miles Edgeworth on the other hand is a must buy :D.

Data East Arcade Classics for me this week!! Bad Dudes, Burger Time, Bump 'n' Jump, Heavy Barrel, and many more!! I hope they will do a volume 2 as well!!!

I haven't read a single good thing about Aliens Vs. Predator, but that's probably irrelevant. Games like that are critic-proof... the target audience isn't exactly demanding and as long as you deliver bullets and entrails, they'll go home happy. Looking forward to Miles Edgeworth, though. I think it will fall short of the original series, but considering what a wasteland the portables are right now, I'll take what I can get.

I usually don`t bother commenting on games. But hey it`s AVP, and for us old hardcore gamers that has played all of the AVP games this is a godsend title. And it is dark? Yeh of course it is, it`s suppose to be creepy. Try the first AVP almost black all of the time, but it set the mood of the whole thing. And the different species is suppose to utelize different tactics to succeed in singelplayer and multiplayer. Hail to all u old timers who still play games!!

The people who didn't like the AvP demo only feel this way about the game because they suck at it like so hard. Just a bunch of noobs throwin' a hissy fit. The demo was totally rad and the environments shown from gameplay look creepy as f***. CAN'T WAIT to pick my copy in a few hours. You gotta play the game yourself, before making such harsh judgements. I have a good friend that I talked into downloading the demo. He hated it within the first 3 minutes. Why? Cuz he totally blew at it.

AVP classic example of don't release a demo. If anything like the demo, game will suck.

The results are (pretty much) in..........and it will FOR SURE be a critical flop......and I imagine that it will all around be average.......You can think of it as this years Fracture. \ \ Argue away but, you can't argue with what the reviews are saying so far.

@JaredTrotterboy AvP is going to be released in North America on Feb. 16, it will be in Europe on Feb. 19. And no, actually NA almost always gets movies and games first (unless they are made in Europe or Japan).

The message of the Alien games is: If it's anything but an action game, it's not going to get released.... Oh, hang on a minute, isn't that the way the whole industry works now?! Unless, of course, you think that Mass Effect 2 has as much roleplaying in it as Planescape Torment.....!

Please stop buying the Dynasty warrior games people!! Don't encourage the devolopment of more of those re-hashed games!

Even with AvP as the highlight.... Still nothing that looks good enough to pull me away from Mass Effect 2. Getting my money's worth from that game.

@Onetwoindo that's cause no-one likes us Americans and we usually get the games shipped off to us last. Even some of our own gaming co. ignore us till last. and our film directors. We tend to never get to see new films before anyone else. hahahaha it sucks waiting. Even if your a cheapskape like me and wait till games are 10-20 dollars it still sucks waiting.

I played the AVP demo on my PS3 and i love it, its sooooooooooooo much fun, especially with friends. And no the Predator dosnt always win, i like being the Marines cause their guns own!

I played the demo and I really wasn't very impressed, I think a team deathmatch would have gone over a lot better where the teams were done by species. Being a long marine kind of seems dumb since the predator obviously has the advantage over all the races. Why not do team deathmatch with one predator (as a juggernaut) and then 5 marines and like 8 aliens? Would that have been a tough demo to put together. The one released just didn't give me enough to trust them after they released rogue warrior.

Only one more day and AVP will be mine! See you guys on XBL!

I don't know about AVP. I downloaded the Demo that was online only and didn't seem that anyone was on it. Has anyone played the demo on PS3?

Definitely getting AvP; it's finally here.. I've been personally waiting for this for years, and being the evolution of a true classic makes it a highly anticipated title in pretty much anyone's book. Still, I get the feeling that this game didn't get the appropriate promotion; I feel the hype about this is almost non-existent. Or maybe it's just me..

yep I am going to pick up AVP but I aint going into it expecting GOTY material, I mean I really dont care about the reviews on this one. The last two games I picked up that people were raving about didnt turn out to be all they were built up to be (Mass Effect 2 & Bioshock 2) so this one is just an impulse buy. Hopefully it will be at least somewhat enjoyable.
