Shippin' Out 8/28-9/1: Saints Row, Star Fox Command, Disgaea 2
With Madden on shelves, the summer doldrums are officially over and a wave of new releases are on the way to stores this week.
There are two universal truths in gaming retail: Nobody wants to release a game against the latest Madden, and the annual release of EA's gridiron game signals an end to the summer release doldrums. Madden's tackling of stores last week means that now the industry's annual lemming-like race to the cliff with scores of hot new releases tripping over themselves for holiday spending dollars can begin.
This week will see the release of a DS debut for a Nintendo franchise character in Star Fox Command, THQ's first trip to the urban sandbox genre made popular by Grand Theft Auto III with Saints Row, a new expansion pack of Glamour Life Stuff for EA's popular Sims 2, and American McGee's satirical take on a disastrous 24 hours in the City of Angels, Bad Day L.A. And that's just for Monday!
The second, larger wave of releases ships out on Tuesday, with the third epidsode of the Xenosaga trilogy arriving in stores alongside the first Xbox 360 Japanese role-playing game (Enchanted Arms) and a sequel to Nippon Ichi's cult hit strategy game for the PlayStation 2, Disgaea. Tuesday will also see PlayStation Portable versions for a number of franchises, including 50 Cent: Bulletproof, Def Jam: Fight for NY, Super Monkey Ball Adventure, and Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins.
Thankfully, the release schedule peaks early, leaving gamers the back half of the week to enjoy their recent purchases or perhaps pick up late-shipping games like ProStroke Golf - World Tour 2007 for the Xbox and PS2 or Konami's downloadable revamp of Time Pilot for the Xbox 360.

Saints Row has got to be a top-selling game. I can just see it happening.
saint's row, enchanted arms, xenosaga lll are on my hit list^_^
Can you create a female character in Saint's Row? Not interested otherwise. Star Fox certainly looks interesting. And now that Disgaea 2 is out, maybe the price of the first one will finally drop and I'll actually be able to get it.
Disgaea 2 and Saints Row are both dissapointments.
P.S. It's not a rip-off if it's better. And IT IS!
I got my eye on Enchanted Arms and Xenosaga Episode III. Hopefully the reviews will be good.
I preordered Disgaea 2..... can't wait to pick it up tomorrow :D
Please guys stop complaining about Saints Row bieng a GTA Rip Off, you guys have obiviously never played the demo or the game and are just going on magazine articles and commercials of it. Yes it pretty much copied everything GTA did, but for me it was just so much better than GTA. Everything (And I mean everything) was improved and added in the game. Saint's Row is an ausome game even for a rip off and the demo was super fun for me, I'm postive that I'll be picking it up soon.
woohoo. Good week for X360 with a new bomberman, saints row, and enchanted arms. I was put off by Xenosaga 2 so I dont know if I'll get 3, and I dont own a DS yet, so Starfox looks like a no go. as far as a slow summer, Prey, Chromehounds, FFVII DoS and New Super Mario Brothers were all huge this summer. and what about Dead friggin Rising? Best game I've played on my 360 since Oblivion. In fact, I've been playing it more than oblivion.
Yay Disgaea 2 and Xenosaga III (if only to hope this really disappointing series can ride off into the sunset with a big bang)
(star fox music playing head)
Disgaea 2!! can't wait!
Saints Row is just a rip of of GTA
Too many people sound happy but am a lil disappointed.
Disgae 2, Xenosaga III, Ultimate Ghouls and Goblins, those are my games.
Who cares if the summer was slow?!? I was playing Oblivion the entire time, I wouldn't want anything else to distract me. Now though after 400+ satisfying hours of it, I'm ready for the next wave, and these will keep me busy for quite a while (Madden, Saints Row, Echanted Arms, Xeno 3, Disgaea 2
Rock 'em and then sock 'em, robots.
I agree with Piernik games like this makes me unhappy with my 360...Come on Gears of war make me happy!
Where is Def Jam for 360?! Oh, well....Saint's Row is gonna hafta hold me over til then....or at least til Gears of War. I still cain't believe they went and ruined tha Bomberman franchise.
Saints Row is a poor GTA rip-off. Only for noobs.
Disgaea 2 & Xenosaga Episode 3 waiting 2 months for rpgs to come its about time.
picking up both Saints Row & Enchanted Arms tomorrow!
Saint's Row is such a good game. Enchanted Arms is pretty good and not great (played the Asia version). Bomberman Act Zero is the most horrible game I have ever played.
Enchanted Arms looks great!
Disgaea II and Xenosaga Ep: III will be a nice addition to my rpg collection. All I need now is FFXII and I'll be pretty much set for PS2 purchases.
Damn clever branding....I HAVE to get Xeno 3 but I gotta say disgaea 2 looks pretty quirky...As for the rest...pretty much just a rehashing of previous releases...though bad L.A also looks pretty different...
Saint's Row and Enchanted Arms have been on my radar for while now.
Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots for the GBA?!!??!! Why has no one been hyping this game?! It's gonna be teh ROCKAZALAZ!!!
come on with teh StarFox command! 50 cent games? does anyone over the age of 15 care? any true gangstas are shot, not prissying around in designer gear making bad game tie-ins. one for the wannabes.
Heck yes, Saints Row. Finally played the demo this past weekend and I am definitely picking it up. In fact I reserved it yesterday.
I'm really looking forward to Disgaea 2 and Enchanted Arms, but probably will not buy either of them this week. I'll probably pick up LocoRoco for the PSP next week, though. Good to know the post-Madden waves are beginning to flow.
I won't get it this week but prolly in the next two weeks I will pick up Saints Row. Enchanted Arms Peeks my intrest a little but I will rent that.
I am glad the summer drought is over. Star Fox Command does look to be a great DS title. I just wish I had played more of the Xenosaga series before now.
To Deathwing13 Yeah, the GTA games are all pretty boring to me, but supposedly this one will be more open ended and the online play intrigues me so I think I am going to just rent it. THE GAME DROUGHT IS FINALLY OVER PEOPLE!!!! G UNIT FTW (jk) !!!!
Enchant Arms and Saints Row, HERE I COME!
Saints Row, smells like -yet- another GTA rip-off. Pass.
Apart from saints row and starfox ds theres nothing reaaaly interesting here..... silence before the storm I guess
so much game coming up!!! can't breathe!!!
Holy crap! Bomberman: Act Zero, 50 Cent: Bulletproof and Yu-Hi-Oh in the same week? I might have to take a day off of school.
first time in 2 months, a decent list of releases!
damnn....i ordered saints row online from gamestop, and it says that its goin to arrive on aug. 30.....i cant wait any longer...iv been waitin for this game for about 4 months.
nice games there
it's 1am...just got off work...bout to head out to wallyworld & pick up saint's row
gotta wait till oct 27th to play disgaea 2,.............. damn UK
Yay for Star Fox: Command.
Star Fox!
Enchanted Arms and maybe Star Fox
Sorry, I agree with Digital-Devil, don't like any kind of thug games. They only contribute to the delinquincy of todays youth. Who have enough bad influence from their parents and political leaders in the first place.
Saints Row and Star Fox for me plz.
Enchanted Arms & Disgaea 2 here I come :)
