Well, maybe those ears aren't completely deaf. Sega today announced that it will indeed be bringing Ryo Hazuki back to the world of gaming, albeit in a rather unexpected way. Ryo will join the cast of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, the upcoming kart racing game for the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Nintendo DS. While he will spend most of the time cruising around tracks on his motorcycle, a special move lets him jump into a forklift for a limited time.
Set for release in spring of 2010, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing will have online and offline multiplayer modes. Other Sega characters confirmed for the game include Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Dr. Eggman, AiAi, Amigo, and Sonic.

I have been to three combat tours and served 8 years in the U.S. Army; I'm married to a awesome wife; I have three children and a son that has my name. I have a great job, good credit and I own my home...but my life will not be complete unless I get to play Shenmue 3 before I die.
The idea here, I'm sure, is that if you're a company with trademarks and copyrights, you have to do something with those trademarked/copyrighted characters every once and a while or you lose them. So Sega trots out an "all-star" title every now and again (see the awful tennis game from a couple years back) to keep these characters under their umbrella. I'd sure love to see a JSR or Shenmue III come along, though.
What i don't get with Sega is that the storyline for Shenmue3 has already been written and complete since 2005. So rather than carrying on making more sonic games, which the majority of them get terrible reviews in a variety of computer and video games sources and actually listen to their fans. I know they are making a shenmue game for DS, or at least this is what a member of staff at Sega told me. But seriously sega, please sort it out.
Sega needs to make JSR 3 and Shenmue 3 the two best game franchises ever made. We can only hope who knows mabye we'll se a real trailer on tv next week or even tommorw. Again we can only hope
You know, if they brought Ryo back for a fighting game since he can fight pretty good and had a nice selection of moves that would have at least been acceptable, but to not finish one of the top 5 sagas of all time and bring him back for a racing game to race on a motorcycle and forklift which is only seen for briefness in shenmue and really not important to the franchise is just a mockery. Like WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?
U know what i just realised? It's not that SEGA forgot bout shenmue they are just too lazy to make the 3rd part ^^
What a way to draw attention to a game ^^ I want someone from phantasy star to be in there lol. And is that Sonic driving the outrun car O_O
Hmm... Not quite the sequel I was looking for, but at least it's better than the prospect of him standing in a cave for eternity.
I played Shenmue, but the 2nd came out under the radar and I never got to play it. Thought the first one was amazing and was really looking forward to seeing the story continue.
Man, I would give an entire year from my lifespan for a Shenmue III. That game is the reason why I bought my Dreamcast!!
I would give my best friends virginity for them to make Shenmue III. At least they haven't forgotten Ryo, and the phoenix mirror.
TWO questions: 1) Why in the name of ODIN's MISSING EYE do I have to learn about this in a gamespot poll, and not in the main NEWS?? 2) How did Alex Kidd and Kid Chameleon(Chameleon Ive never heard of, and Ive been playing SEGA games for 23 years) Beat out The Cast of Eternal Champions (one of the greatest fighting games ever) in the poll? God , the whole gaming community has gone fruity, THAST's why we can't get Shenmue 3.
The EFFED up part of this is Sega keeps making fruity-behind Sonic games because they make money, and refuse to make Shenmue games because well, they DONT. So it's kind of a middle finger to Shenmue fans as if saying "The only way you'll ever see Ryo Hazuki in a game is if SONIC is in the title" . Its seems like a Sega in-joke they were probably saying in the office. It's kind of funny, in an EFFED UP sort of way. The ironic thing is I was recently playing through Yakuza 1 and 2 these past two months. Great game by the way, but all the while I was thinking "these PS2 graphics are CRAP!! "Shenmue looked 3 times better than this!! How did this system EVER kill the Dreamcast?!??!""
Holy crap. We hoped and hoped and posted forever in Shenmue dojo. TGS after TGS we prayed this game wpuld show. Every E3 people predicted we'd see it. Those hopes dided a slow death from 2002 to 2006 I think. It was 2006 or so when I gave up. Shenmue ONLINE gave us false hope and was mishandled and cancelled. Kikizo played a cruel joke on the Shenmue gaming community by claiming Shenmue 3 was done and waiting to be published. Its so sad even most of Shenmue Dojo the site is shut down. Only the forum remains. I feel sorry for the guys who still post there, its tragic. I gave up sobad I recently gave my old xbox and copy of Shenmue 2 to my girlfriend (mostly just to replace her DVD player). Its good to see we shenmue fans got acknowledged alittle with this Ryo cameo. Ill buy one copy for both 360 and Ps3, to show my support. Although A Ryo Hazuki special character in Virtua Fighter 5:Revolution would make more sense. It would be interesting to see him Speaking japanese, and AM2 would still be to lazy to include english subtitles , even for Shenmue fans.
I don't care about the people who haven't played Shenmue (AKA one of the actual greatest games of all time and not some new douche bag title that new game players say is the greatest); just give us a sequel, PLEASE GOD!
Beat was on the Sega Tennis game so I assumed Sega was making a new Jet Set Radio but it doesnt look like its gunna happen... SO Im not gunna believe Shenmue 3 is in the making... WTF SEGA!!!
Nothing says "Let's finish our epic story right!" like a kart racer...if I ever see Kain or Raziel behind the wheel, I'll shoot myself...
Instead of competing tooth and nail with Nintendo why not JUST bring back our best series like Shenmue and Jet Set Radio?
Yes !! Bring back shenmue as a title fot the XBOX 360, I think all of Us want to see the end of the saga!!!
@ ffviiifreak: Probably the same reason that Square did Chrono Trigger for the DS; just to piss off a lot of fans.
