Sega becomes top-earning publisher for June in Japan
Publisher gets 20.9 percent revenue share thanks to Ryu Ga Gotoku: Of the End's release and high retail pricing.
While Sega may be inconsistent in terms of software quality as of late, its recent publisher revenue share numbers may prove that business is looking up for the company. The company that spawned the franchises Sonic and Virtua Fighter was recently declared June's top-earning publisher, accounting for 20.9 percent of publisher revenue.
According to the reports on Famitsu.com, the primary reason was that the latest in the Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza series, the zombie-themed Ryu Ga Gotoku: Of the End, sold 376,000 units and cost 7,680 yen per copy ($97).
Other top earners on the list include Nintendo, which was at second place with 14.8 percent. 3DS, DS, and Wii titles are generally priced lower than games on other platforms in Japan, with the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time costing 4,800 yen ($61).
The top 10 list that covers the period of May 30 through June 26 is below. The last six companies share 41.1 percent of the pie chart on Famitsu.com:
1. Sega - 20.9
2. Nintendo - 14.8
