Scandal, Scorpions, Maiden play GH Encore

Scandal's "The Warrior" adds to set of originals; covers for .38 Special, Scorpions, Oingo Boingo, White Lion, Krokus, Romantics, Iron Maiden also announced.

Activision has hit on a winning strategy for getting rock fans to involuntarily throw up the horns in anticipation of upcoming Guitar Hero games. In the span of two days last month, the company first revealed seven songs from its '80s-centric Guitar Hero II spin-off and then 11 from its generation-spanning sequel, Guitar Hero III. Among the list for Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80s were covers for the Police's "Synchronicity II," Eddie Money's "Shakin'," and Poison's "Nothin' But a Good Time."

Today, Activision has returned with a new set of tracks to be featured in its upcoming big-hair tribute, including seven covers and one original. Newly announced cover tracks include: .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely," Scorpions "No One Like You," Oingo Boingo's "Only a Lad," White Lion's "Radar Love," Krokus' "Ballroom Blitz," The Romantics' "What I Like About You," and Iron Maiden's "Wrath Child." Scandal's "The Warrior" will join Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock" and Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran" as the game's three original tracks.

Including the eight named today, now 21 of 30 songs on Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80s' set list have been revealed. The game will ship later this summer exclusively on the PlayStation 2. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

In case you all forgot, GH3 is also coming out for the PS2. So be prepared to keep the dust off of it till this fall.

Thats a good point DaClint, I didn't even think of the possibility that the reason those AC/DC and Zepplin songs weren't on there was because of rights battles. You're right, I checked iTunes and they only have tribute bands on there. So it looks like they won't be coming to GH anytime soon. But dude, there are alot of games coming out for PS2 pretty soon here man. I don't know if you ever got into Kingdom Hearts but they have KH: Final Remix coming out on PS2 and I'm keeping mine atleast until then. They have a few other gems coming out for PS2 pretty soon but not too many. I'll probably trade in my PS2 in the next year or so towards a PS3 (told myself I'd never get one cause they're too damn expensive for no reason). I'm giving in because my P.O.S. Xbox 360 keeps breaking (2nd time i've sent mine back!!!!!)

This will probably be the last game I buy for my dead PS2. This should bring it back to life for a couple of weeks, but this comes out the same time as NCAA 08 and NASCAR 08 so it's gonna be tough for GH:80s By the way, they better have (and I have a "strong feeling" they will have) "Turn up the Radio" (as made famous by Autograph) And for the last time people, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica are NOT in the game NOT because the developers are too cheap or have personal hate against them, its BECAUSE the bands will not sell the licenses to any of their songs over. This is why AC/DC and Led Zeppelin songs are not found on iTunes (mainly because both are in the Top 5 best selling artists of all time). Metallica recently allowed their songs on iTunes. So MAYBE, these bands will sell the rights to use some of their songs in the future.

Guys, come on! All you commenters need to read whats on the page. of course this isn't all the songs because it says above "Full List of REVEALED SONGS". They are just putting a list up there of songs they've told us so far. They haven't announced all the songs yet. Dont lose hope on Metallica, ACDC, and Zepplin(even though Zepplins most popular songs with the exception of one or two songs were in the 70's, NOT THE 80's). I think they are so many songs that are so many peoples favorites and there will always be people who are pissed their favorite song isn't on GH. But bands like ACDC, Metallica, and Zepplin are bands they will eventually get to if not on this game. So be patient because the are spitting these games out like rabbits.

Its release is only 4 weeks away. Why haven't they told us the full song list yet? They jerk us around and it sucks.

Golden earing is a 70's band, the only way to keep with 80's theme, is to use White Lions version. which doesn't sound AS good as the original but does have more technical guitar work

cypher787
cypher787

yeah but i would figure they would put a modern rock song into gh3 not gh 80s just cuz its supposed to be all 80s and i think if they put metallica into a gh game it would be gh3 since its gonna come out for xbox 360 and stuff

ele975

I also miss Metallica. I hope they add more modern metal songs too, like for example All That Remains and Shadows Fall in GH II.

darthvulger

why dont they add more songs...like some led zepplin and AC/DC qand some metallica

If your going to do a cover of a song, why make it a cover of a cover? Ballroom Blitz was originally done by Sweet and Radar Love was by Golden Earring, why not give them them some credit? Sure the covers by White Lion and Krokus had more guitar emphasis, but they're still doing a new cover for those songs any way so what's the point of giving the old covers credit?

cypher787
cypher787

i would love to see epic from faith no more on this one but im not sure if its from the 80s or 90s and if its a 90s track than y not throw it in gh3>?

This game may very well change my life. Hahahaha.... I'm liking the set list thus far. Tis hair/glam metal centric.... which is what I was hoping for.

Nachoking2k2

Oh yeah, not to mention this game costs $50. There's football games coming out that deserve more money then this right now.

This list is nearly horrible. Nothing what I expected when they released this. I was expecting mostly nothing but hair metal or metal. No Priest even? There's about 4 songs there that involve good guitar. The rest are pointless. I am the warrior is blatantly horrible. Granite, there's 9 songs left, but those better be things they are pulling out of their pockets. And if they didn't add the 3 that the previous person added, it's not looking good. However, I just did notice seventeen. Go Winger.

Why did they not include Caught in a Mosh, Turning Japanese and Seventeen on the list?

Finally some Maiden! I wonder if there will be any major surprises such as 80's Metalica or more Dio. Also, are they charging full price for this? 30 songs feels a little weak after GHII.

Thank God that the devs are making a PS3 version. I don't think I can go one minute more without my GH! My PS2 has that Disc Read Error thing that can't be fixed so I've been locked up playing Oblivion...

It's not just the lyrics/music, it's the way the music is played. They didn't say "You Really Got Me" by the Kinks for GH2, they said by Van Halen because that was the style it was emulating. Frankly, while I love Golden Earring's version of Radar Love, it wouldn't be a good fit for GH.

cypher787

omg its so funny i always said after gh2 they should put a scorpions song on there but i always said they should put no one like you because i think it has better guitar solos in it that made my day cant wait to get this game

Am I the only one thinking is will eventually be released on the 360 as DLC? I mean I'll pick it up for the Ps2, but just like to know when I'll end up paying for it twice

So far not a bad list. Can't wait to see the next 9 though. Even though the rest of songs could suck insanely and I will still buy this game.

Wow, Im gonna have to agree that they should have picked a better song than Wrathchild for Maiden, and they should add Some Judas Priest, Glad they finally added Dio to a GH game. Im glad to see all these Iron Maiden fans on gamespot.

Maiden Rules !!! Having said that I'm glad they picked up Wrathchild for this game because I don't think I'll get it... and having a cooler Maiden song would force me to do so. :(

Now they just need "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey... I thought I was going out of my mind that they didn't credit Sweet for Ballroom Blitz or Golden Earring for Radar Love... oh the things they do to call it "80s".

Up the Irons! |m| The more Maiden the better. Wrathchild is a good song, and a favorite amoung the band since they play the song on nearly every tour, but there are tons better Maiden songs out there. I think they chose this because it's somewhat "lighthearted" of the Maiden songs of the time. I mean, it wouldn't feel smooth in the game to play "I Ran" and then up next comes "Hallowed Be Thy Name", though it would be pretty metal if they did that, but it wouldn't feel right compared to the other songs. That's my two cents on Wrathchild being in the game.

This game can only be saved with the inclusion of Europe's Final Countdown... and maybe some Bryan Adam's Summer of 69? Eagles' Hotel California isn't from the 80's? And why not pick Scorpions' In Trance instead of that one... ACDC's Hells Bells would be perfect but i don't know if it's from the 80's...
