THQ CFO Paul Pucino says Saints Row II sales nearing 4.5 million; Turtle Rock Studios title due after April 2013.
THQ is expecting this holiday quarter to be one of its best on record. In particular, the publisher is expecting big things out of Saints Row: The Third, which is in development at Volition Inc. and due for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. That confidence appears well founded, as THQ said today that preorders for its latest madcap action game are double that of Saints Row II over the same period of time.
The announcement came as part of a Kaufman Brothers Investor Conference, in which THQ executive VP and CFO Paul Pucino gave a brief presentation. Pucino also confirmed that Saints Row II's lifetime-to-date sales stand at nearly 4.5 million units worldwide and that THQ is lining up a "robust" post-release downloadable content plan for Saints Row: The Third.
THQ has previously stated that it plans to deliver fewer, but higher-quality, titles each year. Pucino reiterated that stance today, noting that THQ's plan is to launch one to two original games every year and then release sequels for those that prove successful every two to three years.
The publisher has also signed a deal with Left 4 Dead creator Turtle Rock Studios, which was announced with a broad 2013 release window. As part of today's presentation, Pucino ruled out the first three months of 2013 for that game's release, saying that it should be expected during THQ's fiscal year beginning April 1, 2013.
i still play saints row 2 trying to get the co-op achievements before this comes out but everyones using cheats
i preordered this game back when they released the preorder gift which was around 4 months ago now i gotta wait 2 more
i pre ordered (mostly for the pre order bonus, but i planned on getting the game regardless) (i mean come on, octopus shooting gun that mind controls enemies to fight for you? how is that not awesome?)
Now you see I'm a GTA gamer.. always have been.. But from that video right there.. This looks awesome :D
@phillkillv2 They DID fix the driving physics. Look on their website, and at the bottom in the News, it will be in the Developer Blog. They improved it tons better over SR2.
Can't wait. Definitely one of the games I am most looking forward to playing .The creators at Volition have gone far beyond copying Grand Theft Auto and have made Saints Row one of the most offbeat ,original and entertaining games I have ever played.
@JiaNaDaRen15 - Rockstar left planes out of GTA IV to stop morons impersonating 9/11, a shame, but the only sensible thing they could do when you think about it. Either way they're different games, and they're both a laugh in there own way. Cant wait to get my pimp walk on again lol:).
Looking forward to SR3. It's taken the torch from GTA - Rockstar took all the fun out of their game in favor of making a drama miniseries into a video game. I wrote them a 20-point letter (yes, a real letter) about how badly GTA4 sucked compared to San Andreas. All of the points related to the lack of fun stuff in GTA4, as well as control issues and general gameplay issues (could we have decent a checkpoint system for long missions, PLEASE?). I just wish they'd put out a retail PS3 release of SR1. That would be great to pass the time until SR3 gets here.
I'm glad to see SR3 is on track to sell well. Honestly, the series deserves more respect. So many games take themselves so seriously, that it's refreshing to play a game where you can go streaking, throw yourself into traffic, and pleasure yourself in front of police officers... ...all the while having a co-op partner ;)
Saints Row 2 really turned me off by the story until I just bought it on sale. Nobody told me I could play as a crazy psychopathic prom dress wearing cross dresser with sins forgiven tattoos all over my body. This is the greatest game ever.
I'm really looking forward to this one. Close to my highest anticipated game, along with Arkham City and AC Revelations. Then there's Skyrim, Gears 3 and Uncharted 3....ah man, after a dead summer this fall is going to be very busy.
I'm not that interested in this game and maybe I'll pick this one up sometime in the future when it's cheaper.
Why do people always mention GTAIV being too serious when the subject is Saints Row? They are totally different games from the same genre. Just enjoy them both like I do and quit hating.
unfortunately after San Andreas, GTAIV took out all the fun things like planes and junk for a more realistic experience. Saints Row however understands and I bet they won't take out half the content just to make a sequel look pretty.
@Zidan4000 The story in Saints Row wasn't nearly as good as GTA 4, but the game itself was more fun to play. I have replayed SR 2 a few times and only ever finished GTA 4 once. Both have their strong points, just enjoyed SR 2 more. I am a big fan of Saints Row 1 and 2. Hope this game is great.
i never played the second one but i heard good stuff about it and some people say that it is better than GTA IV , i am keeping my eyes on this one to see how it turns out to be.
Glad to hear it,but good preorders dont always mean good sales, but I hope when the time comes, game will sell good, for now it looks like just the thing we need,an open world game thats just plain fun.I will gladly get it,I loved SR2(never played first one, though).
