Does anyone know if it's online pass will still be required to play locally aside from having a hop in-hop out mode?
Next entry in THQ's irreverent open-world game sets franchise record for reservations.
The third Saints Row still has two weeks of potential preorders left, but it's already the number one most preordered game in the franchise's history.
In a quarterly earnings conference call today, THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell revealed that Saints Row: The Third currently has four times the preorders Saints Row 2 had at the comparable period two weeks out from its release.
While Saints Row: The Third is quadrupling the preorder pace of its predecessor, THQ isn't expecting it to quadruple sales right off the bat. Farrell stated that THQ expects to ship more than 3 million copies of Saints Row: The Third before the March 2012 end of the publisher's fiscal year. Saints Row 2 launched in October of 2009 and sold 2.6 million units through the following March.
Developed by Illinois-based Volition, Saints Row: The Third picks up with the player running the Third Street Saints. Once a small-town gang, the Saints have grown to control the organized crime within Stilwater and even have their own brand, with licensed sneakers, energy drinks, and bobbleheads. However, the Saints' success has drawn the attention of the globally powerful Syndicate, a criminal fraternity that insists on a cut of the action. Players will adopt the role of a member of the Saints who must relocate to the Syndicate's hometown of Steelport after a botched bank robbery forces them to flee Stilwater.

Huge SR fan and have preordered, but it's nonsense to compare preorders this time around to last. As with most games from a few years back, the first 2 SR games didn't have exclusive preorder content, which is the only reason I (and I'm sure many others) went ahead and did it this time. It'll probably end up hurting sales numbers once the game is released, tho.
@Icehearted - they're playing up that angle because their loses this quarter were record high, so it's important for investors. That's my take on it.
I remembering opening my mailbox and seeing Saints Row 3 as the cover of GameInformer a while back and haven't stopped eyeing this game since. Something magical happens when you co-op Saints Row 2. Endless hours of fun before you even do a mission together.
That's a lot of people putting a lot of faith in a series that has been plagued with bugs. I rooting for them, I think the series is corny and fun, but preorders are just nonsense.
Not that I hate Saints Row or anything (great games) but Volition needs to make another Freespace! Those were the best space sims of all time. Think of what they could do with today's technology!
If they released these games in the summer, think of all the sales theyd get! no other games out on the market, and this is one of those good games that will get overlooked dude to the time of the season. FPS season where the re-re-re-releases come out. + Skyrim Dead island GoW3 Deus Ex:HR NBA2k12 RAGE BF# Batman AC Assassins Creed:R Uncharted 3 UGH.
@willychong they said it will support dx10 and 11 and have everything a regular pc game will have not just some cheap port! im looking forward to it I preorder it and skyrim on steam. I cannot wait!!
Good for them! I wouldn't have bet on that. Not that I have anything against the series. In fact I'm really looking forward to SR3. But having the release date so close to Skyrim and Revelations I would not have bet on it breaking any pre-order records. I also don't expect Revelations to break any records. To compete with Skyrim on day-one purchases or pre-orders seems foolish to me. I have Skyrim and AC:R pre-ordered. I unfortunately couldn't squeeze SR3 into my gaming budget for this month. But I will get it. Though I am a little bummed that I won't get the pre-order bonuses. Hopefully they will be made available later...
I love both GTA and Saints Row, very much so.... I love the more realistic tone (to a degree) that GTA IV took, and I can still get my ridiculousness kicks from Saints Row, so it's all good. All in all, it's awesome that we'll have a new GTA AND a new Saints Row over the next 12 months.... should keep me quiet a bit :)
Please, make PC version more friendly, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, PLEASE.....
I will not be preordering. They need to convince me te PC version is going to be good and so far they have only told me that the system requirements are higher than Battlefield 3 but the game looks nowhere near as good. That spells a bad PC version to me.
Saints Row 3 is also the first in the series to show off very specific in-game items only to later announce them as "preorder bonuses." ;)
Against all odds, Saint's Row 2 was a far superior game to GTA IV. GTA IV was so self-serious and formulaic, while SR2 simply said "to hell with it!" and delivered the most ridiculous game possible. GTA V will still crush this game in sales because people are brand junkies, but this series remembers why the GTA concept was fun in the first place.
I can say I liked saints row (1&2) better than GTAIV, mainly cause of all the fun crap you can do in the games. And I remember playing Vice City as a kid, and loved it, for the same reason. Don't get me wrong, GTAIV was still epic, and I've logged in probably 30+ hours and probably not even half way through it yet, but it was more towards story, and realism than fun, which I thought was the point of GTA games (the fun part that is). But this is talking about consoles; I know full and well that the PC version has all the mods, so all the real fun is on there. When I get a good PC, I'm definitely getting GTAIV for it lol
Looks like alot of fun, however I'll be waiting a while before picking this up as have too many other games im playing right now to justify another purchase. Look forward to it though when I do get it. A nice antithesis to the other more serious games I usually play.
Saints Row is one of the most underrated new IPs of this gen. Although to be fair this gen had so many good IPs its easy to see why.
I have pre-ordered this and can't wait for it to come out. 12 days and counting from today. Saints Row 2 was one of the most fun games I have ever played and Saints Row 3 looks like it will top it.
The most likely reason for this is that since the first game was a X360 exclusive, PS3 and PC players who didn't have access to the game didn't give it a try right away. Pre-ordered on Amazon, T minus 13 days.
Well, I hope so. The PC port for SR2 was horrible! This one on the other hand looks great and I hate to have to wait for it to come in.
looks like the kind of game you could play for months with your friends and never get bored.. too bad none of my mates have the same console as me :(
Good for them and glad to be a part of those numbers. This game is going to be about mindless, stupid fun- something more games should try and become nowadays
Dear THQ can you please give us a gameplay demo instead of a character customization demo thankyou very much.
This sucks, i tried to write something I saw in the video but gamespot censored my comment so i had to...well, read my previous comment. And yet gamespot dares to post a video without censoring the words I wanted to write.
I pre-ordered mines yesterday from THQ, and got a free season pass & the genki thing. I can't wait for this game. I still play SR2 to this day so I will most def be playing this until the next gen of consoles, and hopefully the next SR is announced :). I love this franchise.
Well, with that AWESOME trailer they've just released, the preorders better keep multiplying... If I could, I would order 10 copies just because of that trailer and 10 more because of how fun SR2 was XD
Good for them, they deserve it. Saint's Row 2 was one of the most thoroughly enjoyable games that I have played in a long time.
