Saints Row studio crafting all-new action RPG

Red Faction creator Volition posts job listing for design director for "original" AAA franchise; reference to "high-powered creative talent" hints at possible SyFy, del Toro collaboration.

During THQ's post-quarterly earnings call last week, company executives expressed their intent to leverage their original intellectual property across other forms of media, such as the Saints Row movie or the Red Faction miniseries. Now, it appears the studio behind both franchises is cooking up another all-new title.

Information about Volition's

Information about Volition's "original" action RPG remains hazy.

According to a job listing on the Volition site, the Champaign, Illinois-based studio is working on an all-new action role-playing game series. The news came via a job listing for a design director--a position that will in turn lead to the hiring of a whole design team for the project.

The listing reads, "Volition is searching for a Design Director for a new action role-playing game. We are collaborating with a high-powered creative talent in the entertainment industry to develop this original, unannounced franchise. The successful candidate will have a proven track record leading design teams and creating AAA-quality player experiences."

The job listing offered one clue as to what the new IP might be. The mention of "a high-powered creative talent in the entertainment industry" could be a reference to the SyFy Channel, which is collaborating with THQ on the Red Faction miniseries. It could also link the project to Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro, who is reportedly finalizing a game deal with the publisher.

Saints Row were great games, played both the original and the second one, and had fun. Looking forward to find out what this new action rpg is going to be!

Volition's last venture into the RPG genre gave us the Summoner series...which was not good. Hopefully this will be MUCH better.

Action RPGS are always nice. Hopefully this will be better than Alpha Protocol I had high hopes for that game.

Never realized Volition was in Champaign, Illinois ... and so close to home too. Awesome. Totally underrated studio. Definitely keeping an eye on this.

Still regularly go back to Stillwater for some great co-op fun. I'll be looking forward to hearing more of what Volition are cooking up

saints row was a great little sandbox title that filled the crazy over the top gameplay void that the ultra realistic but also brill GTA avoided,would love to see a sequel

Saint's Row! I think thats one of my favorite franchises. Contrary to what someone else said, I actually like how unrealistic it is. That makes it that much more fun. How can you complain about grabbing somebody and chucking them as far as posisble? lol. And the Trailblazer missions were awesome. Actually the whole games were just awesome. SAINT'S ROW 3!

Summoner 3...I was hoping, but if it's an original franchise that they haven't announced, then most likely not. None the less, no matter what it will probably be great.
