@RavenXavier It was surprising that the Xcom (1994) had such a good Ai, with Attack,Take Cover,Ambush and Flee.Ufo After series, attack only. I just checked out the screenshot on IGN site (gamespot has nothing on Xenonauts). My comment regarding pics was not quality related but the portraits of the soldiers down the bottom of the screen looked very similar to the UFO After series.
2K Games launches ARG-style website, leading some to speculate on new property from GTA maker; XCOM link confirmed.
What we heard: Over the weekend, Fusible caught first sight of Citizen Skywatch, a bare-bones teaser site recently launched by Take-Two Interactive. A quick WhoIs search revealed that the site was registered to a physical address shared by Rockstar Games, sparking speculation among gaming blogs such as Joystiq that Citizen Skywatch could be the name of a new property from the Take-Two subsidiary behind Grand Theft Auto and L.A. Noire.
However, as Take-Two has pushed more content onto the Citizen Skywatch teaser site, it has become apparent that the teaser is in fact for 2K Marin's upcoming first-person shooter XCOM. That fact is clearly evident in message forum links that have appeared on the site that take users to 2K Games' XCOM message boards.
As for the teaser campaign itself, it carries a decidedly conspiratorial flare, offering the general impression of a 1984-esque police state with perhaps a hint of The Prisoner thrown in.
"The invasion has begun," reads the first post on the website. "Our skies are filled with the shadows of an unknown enemy: its origin impenetrable, its purpose inscrutable, its methods--incredible. The truth cannot be denied… yet our defenders deny it. The menace is beyond belief… yet we must believe it. Only those bold enough to face the truth possess the courage to to [sic] stand and fight. Register today so that we may remain in contact as new intel develops. You are the first line in the hidden war. Maintain vigilance and stand by for further orders."
The message is signed by "Citizen One," who is presumably the leader of the alternate reality-style game's populist movement.
The official story: Take-Two had not responded to a request for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus? Bogus that Citizen Skywatch has anything to do with Rockstar Games. Not bogus that 2K Games is promoting XCOM with a hype-building ARG.
@Arch-Stanton Very true about the AI in the UFO:After series. So far I've tried all the alpha builds of Xenonauts and the AI is noticeably better even being as basic as it is right now. The pics that have been released of Xenonauts so far also haven't had the proper coloring of the sprites. Check the Xenonauts forums. In the community involvement section the head Admin, Chris, posted a thread showing some of the fully colored and rendered sprites for the Xenonaut troopers. Much better than what has been shown so far.
@PodXCOM "Sorry about that, I just didn't feel like posting, that's all. I had things to do & I forgot." Thanks for getting back to us anyway. "Did you even see the link I'd showed you?" Sorry I didn't check out your youtube links as I have 1Gb limit a month.Yes 1Gb,I a blew most off it on some updates.(78mb left untill the 9th) "hmm, I never did a blog before, and I don't feel like starting one now because I may have to reply back to anyone who post to me." I don't think you have to much to worry about it took about 6 months before someone left me a comment.Replying is option anyway. "p.s. Who keeps down voting my post?" some gay guy I bet ?I,ll vote up a few of your post for you. "So I guess that's it? There is nothing else to talk about. Good bye Arch-Stanton. thanks for listening" No problems I enjoyed talking to you , maybe we could catch up when Xcom is released to see if your opinions where correct. :) Cheers Arch
@Arch-Stanton Well, I only have two more ideas, and it's not like there ever going to be made into games anyways. 1. Ghosts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XcxQmV6P8Y When I see the video at 0:31-0:48, I think: what if there was this Thief/Silent Hill-like city that was haunted by bad spirits. And like that in the video: You hunt them down. it would feel & play like an open-world ghostbusters and the cartoon Ghost Hunt. 2. What if you were in a human colony on an alien planet? The gameplay could be anything from: 'just stayin alive from the attacking aliens' to 'control and defending your colony'. I don't have a solid idea of what it should be, because the setting can do all kinds of gamplay. It can even be on a Ghost ship. I don't know if you heard of Iron Helix or Enemy Infestation (games from when I was a kid), but I guess it would feel like Dead Space, Mindcraft, and Project Zomboid. But with Research & Base Building. So I guess that's it? There is nothing else to talk about. Good bye Arch-Stanton. :) thanks for listening p.s. Who keeps down voting my post?
@Arch-Stanton @warhawk-geeby Sorry about that, I just didn't feel like posting, that's all. I had things to do & I forgot. Evangelion, the reason I don't have any Evangelion game list is because I only love the cartoon. It's crazy. The ending has this giant alien sucking the soul of everyone on Earth then dies. really! No other story has an ending like that. Did you even see the link I'd showed you? As for giving Duke Nukem Forever a 10, I just felt sorry for it. It's weird, I didn't even play any of the games on my list; I just try changing the ratings of a game, because of the way I feel toward it. "I wouldn't mind. Mite be better to put them on a blog though " hmm, I never did a blog before, and I don't feel like starting one now because I may have to reply back to anyone who post to me.
@warhawk-geeby I think your trying to say it's the thought that counts. I think PodXCOM must have lost his internet connection in the storm ?
@Arch-Stanton I would thumb up your comments.. but there's a hell of a lot :P All that matters is that you know I found it amusing!
@PodXCOM Well, I'm not sure what you saw to make you think Evangelion is bad, but.... I checked out you games list on your profile for Evangelion ,nothing so I don't know what game your refering,(can't be that good if you didn't bother to put it on your home page).Dukenukem 10? you must be a devoted fan. Do you want to hear my other ideas?.... maybe yes. I wouldn't mind. Mite be better to put them on a blog though :)
@PodXCOM Well, I'm not sure what you saw to make you think Evangelion is bad, but.... To be honest I only had a quick look on the gamespot search engine and found about 30 + games with Evangelion reference,(they where all those Japanese cartoon type). So you still could have a good idea. Yes your idea with TFTD sounds good but not original ,it was used in "space hulk" and another that I can't remember which was turned base both had a Alien type enemy.(Similiar to the movie Alien).A big fan like you mite know it.But walking around your own base definitely sounds good.
@Arch-Stanton "You're mocking me now, aren't you? I think I'll have to agree with other Xcom fans on that." :( :( :( Well, I'm not sure what you saw to make you think Evangelion is bad, but.... Look, it wasn't going to copy Evangelion; it was going to play and feel like a X-COM game for sure, with Base Building & all. Both Apoc and Eva are about defending a city from attacking aliens and.... Forget it, it would take too long to tell. At least look at this Trailer to get a better feel what I was going for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ggCe3CgGmc Do you want to hear my other ideas?.... maybe not. Well, the least craziest idea I had, is a remake of TFTD, in which almost everything is the same, except you can walk around the base in an FPS view. I always wanted to see the base from a FP. ----- "Who's gay in ME3 ?" I do not know, they haven't said it yet. They just said Shepard can be gay with someone.
@PodXCOM Besides, some of the other X-COM fans told me my ideas were crazy. Like one idea was to have the gameplay of X-COM Apocalypse, But with the look and feel of Evangelion. You're mocking me now, aren't you? I think I'll have to agree with other Xcom fans on that.
@PodXCOM Hey! are you making fun of me? You're mocking me, aren't you? Yeah I was.You seem to take all that gay and civil rites in Xcom way to seriously but I do get that you pissed off ,cause they left out a heap of good stuff that was in original Xcom that made it so good. Besides, some of the other X-COM fans told me my ideas were crazy. X-COM Apocalypse wasn't one of favourites and I,ve never heard of Evangelion so I'l come back to you on that one. Who's gay in ME3 ?
@Arch-Stanton "Yeah man. I think a few people have been chewing on some gay loco weed." Hey! are you making fun of me? :( "I think you should be a creative advisor for a new XCOM.Then we'l get a decent game." You're mocking me, aren't you? Besides, some of the other X-COM fans told me my ideas were crazy. Like one idea was to have the gameplay of X-COM Apocalypse, But with the look and feel of Evangelion. "Thanks for getting back to me.Any other gay games I should avoid ?" Avoid? are you mocking me again? Anyways, umm, I heard Valkyria Chronicles, Persona, MGS4, Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect 3, and Dragon Age has some gay stuff, but there is no need to avoid them. It's not like this game, were they're all like "OMG, OMG, THERE'S A GAY GUY! HE'S EMO AND SAD BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE HIM!" In fact, you may not even know there is a gay in MGS4 or New Vegas.
Haha. I stumbled across this thread but was just left highly confused :P Still.. Makes good reading! Have fun with your convo guys.
@PodXCOM Thanks for getting back to me.Any other gay games I should avoid ? "Yeah, sorry about that. ^^' But what can I say, I'm a die-hard fan of X-COM." (No. 1 Fan I think) I think you should be a creative advisor for a new XCOM.Then we'l get a decent game.
@RavenXavier Looking at the screenshots of "Xenonauts".It reminds me of UFO After.... series of game.It was ok but had a terrible AI .
@warhawk-geeby Yeah man. I think a few people have been chewing on some gay loco weed. This is a old thread ,surpriseded that anyone still looking.
@RavenXavier @Arch-Stanton "Thank the gods for the "Xenonauts" game coming out." Don't forget Fray and Jagged Alliance: Back in Action! Fray: http://kotaku.com/5817430/the-new-x+com-is-a-shooter-advance-wars-is-mia-so-thank-goodness-for-fray http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/01/fever-fray-first-fray-screens-interview/ http://www.fray-game.com/ Jagged Alliance: Back in Action: http://www.jaggedalliance.com/en/
@warhawk-geeby "Holy mackerel this thread has gone crazy. What's with the whole gay-conspiracy thing? I think there's some folks looking in to this waaaay to much." Yeah, sorry about that. ^^' But what can I say, I'm a die-hard fan of X-COM.
@Arch-Stanton 3. About Bbase Building: They didn't fully say they didn't want Base Building in the game, but how stupid do you have to be working on a game for 2 to 3 years and still be "throwing [it] around", with no idea how to add it to the game??? Here is the Angry Joe video Interview that about about Base Building and some other stuff: http://www.blisteredthumbs.net/2011/06/aj-interviews-xcom-e3-2011/ " Q: Is there any base building? A: We've been throwing that around, but we haven't settled on something yet. We think it's a cool idea, so we'll try to implement it if possible. Q: Any Psionics/Molecular Control tech? A: We're still playing around with all the abilities, so there's some stuff that could be implemented, we don't know for sure yet. Q: Are there random UFO encounters like in the original game (i.e. Interceptor missions)? A: I don't know if we're going to do interception missions specifically, but there are crash sites that you can investigate. The game follows a linear storyline with side-missions that you can go on (eg. grab a Titan, get research). Q: How long is the campaign? A: We're not sure how long the game is going to be yet, but I know it'll at least be longer than 4 hours. We'll have a better idea of how long it's going to be as we get farther along in development. Q: Are there plans for alien containment? A: There was a point during development when that was part of the game, but we're not sure if it'll end up in the final game.
@Arch-Stanton 2. In this video Interview Jordan Thomas doesn't talk about the gay character, but he does talk about the black (Agent Barns) and boss lady: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iWRhW_TRbk Does it seem weird that he calls the CIA boss lady and black guy "very rare" and that he only mention those two? Isn't there anyone else to talk about? Seem "XCOM" is very lucky to have those token characters in the 50s/60s. And I wouldn't have even cared about this, if not for what Thomas said to gaygamer: http://gaygamer.net/2011/06/e3_11_interview_jordan_thomas.html In short, Agent Barns (the black guy) refused to plant evidence that would discredit Martin Luther King, and now he works for "XCOM". This makes me wonder if CIA boss lady also has a backstory like this.
@Arch-Stanton "Saw the "XCOM Interview With Jonathan Pelling (PC)"Didn't notice any gays or civil rites on the vid." (sigh) I was holding back all my cards, because I didn't think you would want to read all the crappy details. But since your still here, I'll show you everything: 1. They didn't talk about the gay or black character until E3 2011. All they said was this game was about the 'American Dream' and how the aliens are trying to destroy it. Only in some Interviews did they talk about the gay character: http://gaygamer.net/2011/06/e3_11_interview_jordan_thomas.html http://blogs.phillymag.com/gphilly/2011/06/20/video-gaming-is-so-gay/ http://kotaku.com/5812460/the-struggles-of-a-gay-xcom-scientist (I hope you can see the links) There also those two links that also touched on the gay character: http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/06/09/xcom-gets-a-makeover-at-e3/?mod=google_news_blog http://kotaku.com/5810536/if-xcom-is-an-fps-then-so-is-mass-effect
Holy mackerel this thread has gone crazy. What's with the whole gay-conspiracy thing? I think there's some folks looking in to this waaaay to much.
@PodXCOM Saw the "XCOM Interview With Jonathan Pelling (PC)"Didn't notice any gays or civil rites on the vid.
@PodXCOM You certainly pick up a lot of detail in games,I,m sure 99% of players don't pick up crap like that either. "But where does the aliens come-in?" Yes.Have you tried that free GNU title Alien Invasion.A bit buggy on my PC,has no tanks and destructable objects, could be very good if it had some work from a professional game studio.
@Arch-Stanton "I never noticed myself, maybe he thought people mite enjoy shooting gay enemies." It's not like that. The Brute was one of those big-mouth-homophobic-in the-in-the-closet-gay, like Mr. Garrison from South Park. You had to use the Hypnotize to know he was gay or else you just thought you were killing gay-haters: ------ "Jordan Thomas revealed that under the Hypnotize Plasmid, the Brute's explanation for their homophobic remarks and their hulked appearance was because of being ashamed and feared by their own homosexuality in Rapture's unforgiving sociopolitical climate." ----- But enough about gays; The whole game is full of crap like this. There's a black guy working for you, and he too has a sad back-story too. And guess who is the Boss of XCOM? A woman! In the 50s! And I bet she has a dumn story as well. There is nothing bad about having women, blacks, or even gays in your story, But where does the aliens come-in? The whole game just feels like a middle finger to the 1950s.
@PodXCOM " gay in Bioshock 2 with a Brute Splicer" I never noticed myself, maybe he thought people mite enjoy shooting gay enemies. "I'm sorry, all I seem to be doing is complaining, but there really isn't anything nice I can say about the game" Yeah, a know alot of women who love complaining. We'l just have to wait and see if it's bargain bin special.
@Arch-Stanton "I think your over analysing " maybe. But he (Jordan Thomas) already used another gay in Bioshock 2 with a Brute Splicer (would you like the link?). It's getting ridiculous how many times he keeps adding the same gay characters. This is a strategy game, It's not all about social, sexual and racial politics in the 60's! "The corporate suits would shoot down crap like that quick smart." I don't see how. They were told to make an X-COM game, but they just did whatever the hell they felt like without being stopped. I'm sorry, all I seem to be doing is complaining, but there really isn't anything nice I can say about the game. :(
@PodXCOM I think your over analysing the creators personal views and life style. The corporate suits would shoot down crap like that quick smart.Gay and civil rights in a game would be as popular as a 3 legged horse at a rodeo unless there intention was to make a loss.
@Arch-Stanton "No I never even mention Base Building !!" oh, Sorry , I was being melodramatic about that. I just didn't know how to put it in any other way. "@ PodXCOM" You shouldn't put a "space" between "@" and "PodXCOM" or else I won't be noted of your reply. "Very strange that they put gay stuff into a sci-fi strategy (or FPS) game, Is that so they can market to the .001 % gay gamers?" I think it's because Jordan Thomas is gay himself and this gay scientist is his "Black Hole Sue" (Mary Sue). This just pisses me off to no end. He has the time to add in his Sue, but he can't bother to add anything from X-COM? Well, thanks for listening, here is a great strategy game from the Xbox live and PSN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSOQGazo7Oo
@ PodXCOM "and your telling me, with less then 7 months to go, they are somehow going to have Base Building? " No I never even mention Base Building !! I did say they "ripped the guts out of the game"for not including those features you mentioned. Looks like you've done a lot research on the game.It does sound very disappointing from what you describe. Very strange that they put gay stuff into a sci-fi strategy (or FPS) game, Is that so they can market to the .001 % gay gamers.? What's next pink uniforms for Black OPs.?
@Arch-Stanton "How do you know all that ? as the game or even a demo are not out." Because: 1. In *all their interviews, they never talk anything else then combat, and story, why is that? Plus, if they have Base Building, and shootng down UFOs, then why wouldn't they talk about it? They had more then 3 years to work on this game, and your telling me, with less then 7 months to go, they are somehow going to have Base Building? Will Wright was more then happy to show-off Spore 3 YEARS before it came-out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dvMDFOFnA 2. 2K Marin' Bioshock 2; and what did they really added to that? beside the bad "Adopt the Little Sister" gameplay? Nothing! 3. They don't care about X-COM! Just look at this interview, which they are more interested in talking about a homosexual scientist, that we haven't even seen, then the F***ing gameplay! http://gaygamer.net/2011/06/e3_11_interview_jordan_thomas.html --- gaygamer: "I commented that it sounded like XCOM was really more of a 60's period piece that happened to use aliens as a catalyst to bring out the social climate." Thomas: "As a narrative guy, absolutely. To both mutate and express the inner conflicts of the period." --- Does that even sound like they care about X-COM?
@PodXCOM How do you know all that ? as the game or even a demo are not out. If true they certainly ripped the guts out of the game. Will have to read the reviews when it comes out to see if worth the money or bargain bin.
@alcalde Yeah, too bad they took out everything that made X-COM what it is, to tell this "culture war." 2K itself confirme that this game will have: -No Base Building. -No Base Control. -No Tanks to send into battle. -No Research (they have something called "Research points", which is just another way of saying "experience points"). -No Manufacturing. -No Random Missions. -No UFO to shoot down. -No more then two men/NPCs to command, but they can never die. -No Nations/City to protect. -No Micromanaging of any kind. -No real Strategy of any kind. -Nothing, and I mean *NOTHING* from the first 3 games to connect it to X-COM. -NO homage beyond ONE or TWO names.
Don't buy this game, it is not X-COM! This game was made without X-COM ever in mind! This game is about social, sexual and racial politics in the 50s/60s, and they just wanted to complain about the GAYS & Civil rights! Just like Bioshock. Then someone said "this game is? kind of like XCOM" and then they only used the name. This game was NEVER about XCOM; it was about how Dr.Weir was a homosexual, and how he is the only one who can save the bigoted USA from aliens. The game is going to be very linear, so it can give a preachy and didactic moral message. Go to "gaygamer dot net" and look up "Interview Jordan Thomas" or go to the 2K's XCOM Forum.
The article's headline was pretty misleading. Saying that over the weekend people speculated that this teaser was the doing of the GTA team, and then the article saying it was found to not have anything to do with them? Why even have the in the headline if it's inconsequential to the article?
