I've never liked rythm games, but Warriors of Rock seems pretty awesome, might have to try it out in commemoration of this event.
Harmonix's rhythm game platform hits millennial milestone on October 12 with new tracks from Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album Are You Experienced?
It took just over two years for Harmonix to reach the 1,000 song milestone for its rhythm game platform Rock Band, achieving the feat in November 2009. The next 1,000 additions to the Rock Band playable music library will have taken less than half that time.
Today, Harmonix and publisher MTV Games announced that the Rock Band platform will hit the 2,000-song milestone next week with the release of tracks from The Jimi Hendrix Experience's album Are You Experienced?. Included in this tally are on-disc songs from Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Lego Rock Band, Green Day: Rock Band, and AC/DC Live: Rock Band, as well as weekly downloadable content updates.
Harmonix has yet to announce which tracks will be added to the Rock Band Store from the Are You Experienced? album, saying only that the titular tune will be the 2,000th song. The album download will contain a mix of live and studio tracks from Hendrix's debut album, and it will be available for download beginning October 12 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.
The Rock Band library's milestone will come two weeks before Harmonix and MTV Games ship the third flagship installment in the franchise, Rock Band 3. Due on October 29 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and DS, Rock Band 3 will attempt to reinvigorate the sagging rhythm game genre by introducing a 25-key MIDI keyboard. The console versions of the game include 83 tracks, while the DS installment offers 25 tunes.
To date, more than 75 million songs have been downloaded through the Rock Band Store, a full list for which is available on Harmonix's official Web site. For more on the latest installment in the franchise, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Rock Band 3.
@paranoidpixie95 I agree man, i still liked 5 and Warriors of rock was truley amazeing loved the Rush 2112. 5 sountrack i know got flamed by alot of people but id rather play the oldies and good tracks then some of todays metal...some of it is utter trash lol. plus i liked the party options and the avatar features of the newer GH's. My biggest thing with Rock band VS Gutiar Hero is i hate RB's note layout. i think GH's makes it easier to see whats comeing at you.
@LeviHohenfeldt There's a bit of bias here, but Guitar Hero 3 was the last truly good game IMO. The screen works for me, plus I enjoyed the tracklist, which is why it's my favourite game in the series. However, the new games were bound to lose that cutting edge that we had come to know and love.
Not to mention though guys that GH2 was the last game that harmonix with activison. and ever since then GH seems to get worse and Rock Band takes their time to put out stuff worth while.
@paranoidpixie95 Yea its the hidden track on asylum. @ThePurpleBubble Dude i agree with "Never Again" is an amazing song. I love the whole album. Id pay 1600ms for it lol. Also believe Judas Priest though needs alot more DLC. The 30th edition of British steel wasn't that great as it seems it was more recent i want the stuff from their prime.
Rock Band's success isn't as many titles in 1 fiscal year as possible. It's spending time and money getting quality licenses for their games, good tactics = good games.
I'll admit that the whole "pro mode" is a little odd. I have been one of those people to say "learn to play a real instrument". That is because I don't plan on playing in Pro Mode. I think Rock Band should have put more time onto a decent Career mode then instrument feel. However, these games are still fun. These games are for us who want to goof around and don't want to learn a real instrument. I have tried a real one... not for me. This gives me that feel at a way I can play. Are these games past its prime? I don't think so. They are fun... I just think they should work on a decent career mode that makes you fill a rock star without online stuff. These games are still fun... if your only argument as to why these games are past their prime is because of the "pro mode"... re-think your argument.
@azrael2514 same here. I started playing drums soon after RB. I really don't play RB anymore but its still an awesome game.
Good God, I'm so sick of these d-bags saying "Learn to play a real guitar why don't you!" In fact I got into playing guitar after Guitar Hero 2 came out. Now I'm not that great, I will admit, but I have come a long way from stumbling along with the riff of "Smoke on the Water". And guess what? I STILL PLAY ROCK BAND!! It's a fun game to play with your friends when you have nothing better to do (and it doesn't hurt if you are super ****ed up as well). Keep your stupid high and mighty comments to yourself and just let us enjoy a fun game.
Learn how to play real guitar with a real fake guitar! Well, beats kids learning how to kill through Doom.
Sorry, but I don't see the point with these "games" anymore. It would be better if kids started playing in real bands instead.
@ThePurpleBubble Disturbed made a cover of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For? The one by U2? Haven't even heard it but as I read your comment I had what I thought it would sound like in my head.
@LeviHohenfeldt Never Again pl0x >.> (one of Disturb's most powerful songs, in my opinion, as it rightly should be.) Heck, even their cover of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For would be epic to play...
Judas Priest is all the dlc i can say i care about!!!! or maybe Disturbed Asylum album in full would be nice to. i want to play Innocence and Warrior
Ah...Rock Band/Guitar Hero comments. Love coming here to see so many people's awful taste in music. Seriously, where else can I go in the world to see someone exclaim that they want a frickin Goo Goo Dolls song in Rock Band?
I really wish they would put Voodoo Child in the store, but from this album they will hopefully have Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, and Hey Joe: that would be a good 3-song pack.
Keep 'em coming. DLC >>> new games. Guitar Hero never learned this lesson, and that's why they were run into the ground.
Oh, well... Word Up isn't even *technically* a proper KoRn song - just a cover. (A very, very out-there cover, but a cover nontheless.) Meh. C'mon Harmonix... >.>
oh how I wish they could've brought enter sandman as export to RB2....I still have my RB1 disc, but its just not worth it to throw in for that one. Dunno how many DLC songs I got, well over 300 at least. More Korn sure would be nice like others have said. Maybe some more Manson and Metallica would be nice too. But oh well, we can wish.
@ThePurpleBubble The KoRn song in Lego:RB is Word Up. @jazilla Axis Bold as Love is already available as a full album in RB. Glad to see more Jimi in Rock Band, though I probably won't buy it personally. Congrats HMX!!!
@nissan4ever I hear ya... I'm pretty sure (not positive) that the one in Lego RB is Freak on a Leash... already in GH5... Could be a matter of licensing issues (the reason you can't have Enter Sandman in RB2) but... I'm not too sure about that...
Wish there were some Goo Goo Dolls, The Fray, Men at Work and/or Collective Soul songs. Regardless, it is quite the milestone. Kudos Harmonix!
How can some people have over 700 songs? Dang. I only have 50, and I'm happy with all of them. :p Great song choices harmonix. Wish I could say the same to GH.
@HellWithoutSin really? I might have to give that a shot then, thanks. It kinda bugs me that spongebob has more songs than Korn though.
I have around 600 songs. This is the game that just keeps on giving! Thanks Harmonix, keep up the good work :)
I'm closing in on my100th paid download which makes the game much funner to play with tracks I like!! I'd like to see more bands represented even if it's only 1 song.
