Resident Evil: Revelations details ultra-tough Infernal mode for console

New ultra-difficulty mode in upcoming console version of Resident Evil: Revelations changes enemy and item placement.

The upcoming Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U versions of Resident Evil: Revelations will feature an especially challenging Infernal difficulty mode, which Capcom has detailed in a new trailer.

Alongside making the game harder, Infernal mode remixes enemy and item placement.

Resident Evil: Revelations was released on the 3DS last year. The game was awarded a respectable 8.5 in its GameSpot review.

"Resident Evil: Revelations is a thoroughly successful crossbreeding of old-school chills and new-school action," said reviewer Jane about the 3DS version last year.

The console version of Resident Evil: Revelations will be released on May 21 in North America and on May 24 in Europe.

After RE6 I've lost all hope.

Why not Inferno?  I mean they constantly reference Dante's Inferno in the game.

Yes, because "ultra tough" is why I choose to play games. Some of us just want to relax, escape, and enjoy. Not get stressed out and break controllers. I'll pass on your ego boost testosterone mode.

Look like this is the answer to the scarier RE gamers' request from Capcom.

If this game was to be released for PC/Steam, I would totally buy it!

What's the point with the infernal difficulty, there are so many places where you can just skip enemies if you want. Sorry I forgot, the hunters in this game take a hundred bullets before dying.

@Metroidalert911 Skippable enemies will remain skippable unless you decide to take on them. But you can bet there'll be a trophy / achievement related to.

I am so excited for this game! I played it on the 3ds and I can honestly say it's the best Resident Evil game I've played in a looooong time. Even though I already have it on the 3ds I'm definitely buying it again.

Considering how much capcom is doing with this game, I really don't think $50 is THAT bad, I mean at least it's still not a full priced PS3 game. And trust me, it's worth it for this game. Don't let the "but it was a handheld game" thing fool you, cause the game already looked amazing then, and now with the revamped graphics it will be even better.

Besides, look at it this way. If this game sells well hopefully capcom will start to realize what they've been doing wrong and get the series on the right track again. :)

@cco61827 What about the rest of the franchises and the whole DLC situation? As of right now, there's no bullshit on this game. Usually when Capcom releases a potentially good game, Capcom always got to smear it with bullshit, which causes people like me to either not buy the game or buy 20$ USED.

If there's nothing bad about it, then I hope it sells well. That will let Capcom know that we're saying: "Hey Capcom, if you don't do crap, then people will buy your games."

@Strider8009 If Capcom has to learn a lesson is that they don't need to mess with their franchises to make profit. In the long run, the mess is going to leave irremovable stains...

They should remake the original Resident Evil in HD and have it control like RE4. So have the exact game but instead of the fixed cameras and clunky controls, have the RE4 control aspect, no action crap, but still the better 3rd person view-point with aiming and shooting. Actually, they should remake the first 3 Resident Evil games like that. They'd be better than the half baked action games that they've been making lately.

SgtStrungOut

@Vodoo RE1 with RE4 gameplay? HELL NO. You sound like the fake fans that RE4 brought in. The controls in the old RE games were fine, you just sucked at them. The only people who use the word' "clunky" are people who sucked at the old RE games or people that never even touched them and just read reviews by people who sucked at the old RE games. The older RE games were fine as is. RE4 on up suck. They are for retards.

RAD_RADIO

@Vodoo I wouldn't mind a remake of RE2 in the same style of REmake. Just don't bother with REmake, it's already been remade and mastered.

HaK-ForgoTT3n

@Vodoo uhhh NO. The remake was perfect, and the controls are not "clunky" unless you suck at video games or you're 8 years old. The fixed camera is part of what made resident evil scarier.

@Vodoo Please stop asking for one HD version of the 1st RE. We don't touch what is supposed to be the way it is.

ExtremePhobia

@Vodoo I don't know about that. RE1 and 2 are holy ground. I like three just the way it is and I don't want to mess with it but if there was one of the three that could benefit most from this treatment, it'd be 3.

@RAD_RADIO @franzito @devilsportal what i mean is to (LET THE SERIES STAY TRUE TO ITS ROOTs),

and not try to be a simple fps...

and i am one of those guys who played and ended every resident evil starting from the 2nd installment so what i meant was that i would prefer resident evil 2 and 3's gameplay over todays gameplay and that i sense that revelations falls somewhere b/w the two types of gameplays so im liking it,,,

i tink we are cool now...

@hatieshorrer So what its still a game a lot of people played last year...nothing new here to see...to top it off it wasnt made for consoles and the gameplay wont mesh well unless they do more than port...

@IanNottinghamX They tried that, and we got RE6 and "DmC"... I think they should stick to HD remakes. -_-

I will give them credit for Dragon's Dogma tho.

@M3o5nster Those 2 games were sequels dude...

M3o5nster
M3o5nster

@IanNottinghamX The article is about an HD remake, so I figured by "new" you meant a new game, not new I.P., but like I said... Dragon's Dogma was pretty good.

I'm not sure Capcom has the talent to really come up with great new I.P.s these days.

3v1LR0n1N
3v1LR0n1N

@M3o5nster @IanNottinghamX I didnt hate RE6 at all, but when you think Resident Evil/ Biohazard you think mostly horror.... not mostly action.... the series deserves HORROR themed reboot (no not a remake...it's been done), I personally would love to see a new mansion with the same, if not similar main characters, without coop. oh and speaking of a capcom series reboot, DmC wasn't that bad, considering it is a reboot of an already awesome series that didnt really need a reboot

I do find it interesting that this was a 3DS title. I cannot recall another game that was once a 3DS game and moved up to the main consoles. Usually they take the console game and move it to the handhelds. I could be wrong but still it is very interesting to me and I am looking forward to the game.

I always enjoy a good challenge I can still remember RE2 being difficult on Hard mode with all the bullets it took to down zombies in the RCPD.

I get that they're adding a a mode, some items, textures, etc. but re-releasing a game that's almost a year and a half old, then charging more than the original version? Let's be clear here: at its core it's still a handheld game, and it's limited in sheer scope by the technological caps of the original platform (this is a 4 hour game here). A lot of ports get extra content, but are priced according to the age of the title and the standards of the new platform. Is it a good DS game? Sure. Does it measure up to $10 shy of a full console game? Meh.

M3o5nster
M3o5nster

@kohle36 I agree it should be $40 not $50... Capcom is just up to their old nickel and dime tricks.

Sfr528

@kohle36 I actually would really prefer a game that is around 4-6 hours long that focuses on the gameplay and immersion whilst cutting away all the menial fat that so many console games have to pad out the length. The price point doesn't bother me that much -- I've spent more money on shorter games in the past.

Jay2528
Jay2528

@Sfr528 @kohle36 Oh I agree, I hate it when games are dragged on forever and padded with unnecessary gameplay. However RE Revelations is just the right length, around 10 hours or so. It felt just right to me without dragging on longer than needed.

Jay2528
Jay2528 like.author.displayName 1 Like

@kohle36 While I agree with the price point being too high, you are exaggerating about the games length as it is longer than 4 hours (even before Raid mode).
