Capcom enticing customers to buy direct from its online store with iconic red-and-white parasol of survival horror series' nefarious corporation.
Resident Evil players have spent decades trying to bring the evil Umbrella corporation down and expose its sinister secrets, but now they can help promote the brand as well. Capcom today announced that preorders for Resident Evil 6 placed through its online storefront will receive a free umbrella decorated with the familiar red-and-white Umbrella logo.
Set for release October 2, Resident Evil 6 will take place across the US, Eastern Europe, and China, and stars series stalwarts Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, plus cynical mercenary Jake Muller, son of one Albert Wesker. As for multiplayer, the game will take a page from titles like Journey and Demon's Souls, featuring a more subtle form of multiplayer woven into the single-player mode.
Capcom expects the game to be the best-selling title in company history, projecting the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC game to sell 7 million copies worldwide. Currently, Capcom's best-selling title of all time is the Super Nintendo edition of Street Fighter II, which sold 6.3 million copies. The last main entry in the survival horror series, 2009's Resident Evil 5, sold 5.8 million units worldwide, good enough to be the company's second-best-selling game to date.

After how many games they only thought about this now? It's about time! (For them to release the umbrella) :D
Yea...How about offering the PC version. Not wasting my time on a blury, sluggish controls, all at 720p at 30fps...Really? Don't waste our time on the console versions..Unless the consoles will run in DX 10 or 11 in 4x AA@60fps in full/real 1080P. Sorry, facts are facts.
Your a PC gamer, we get it, but dont act like your "Superior" or better than those who want to play on consoles
Damn i want 1. I preordered my game thru Best Buy though. Oh well. Judging by the comments though, it seems that i can find it elsewhere so i'll look around.
So if you pre-order the game you get to use what claire used as a weapon in Resident Evil Degeneration, weird pre-order incentive
That's okay. Capcom, make a decent RE game first, then I might consider a pre-order. Other than the shameful sequels that you guys keep prodcuing, then there's nothing left to this once great franchise.
Resident Evil 4 was an amazing game when it first launched on the Gamecube. Of course you're not comparing it to todays standards.
If it came with a vile of actual T-virus and a Las Plagas parasite in a jar then I might consider it
You can already buy this at ThinkGeek. http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/b4e7/?srp=1
Criticize all you want, but this is more likely to make me preorder than any announced DLC skins, maps, or missions.
Judging from early previews and videos the chances are the umbrella will be more fun to play with than the game.
These are so old, I already have one too.
We had them at our store when we openned about 5 years ago and we couldn't shift them. Ended up giving them away a few of years down the line.
Capcom are probably only giving them away because they found them gavering dust in their warehouse. Thought they would hjave tried a little harder, but it is Capcom. Still I suppose you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.
I still remember the logo on a PC Chris opened in Resi one, with Umbrella's logo and the characteristic sound effects, o, those where the times...
Well now it looks like I have to cancel my preorder from gamestop, and do it online. I want that umbrella. I am a sucker for this kind of stuff, and that is why I need a bigger house. If there is a game I want, I have to have everything possible that comes with it. I hope gamestop doesn't come out with anything for the preorders, cause then I would have to buy 2 copies of this.
First it's Leon's leather jacket, now it's Umbrella's umbrella. So what's next Albert's sunglasses, Chris's boots, Jill's S.T.A.R.S. cap, etc?
I'm going to laugh when this does not reach their expected sales target. Not that I'm saying it won't sell, quite obviously it will, but their reputation has been badly tarnished this year and they're crazy if they think this game is going to be the best selling ever with intial buzz about it being not that great. I myself am waiting on this one, I may pick it up near the end of the year or next year after the DLC is well known and priced and I know exactly I'm getting. Not pre ordering a damn thing from Cashcom.
I'm not to fussed about the DLC situation, but as a Resi fan I'm pretty hesitant on this one. RE4 was a great action game with good atmosphere. RE5 was just RE4 with annoying co-op partner and less atmosphere. If the Leon campaign was the whole game I'd be keen for RE:6 since it seems focussed on atmosphere and tension and old school zombies. But the other 2/3's of the game doesn't sit well with me.
I have nothing against action games but it pains me to see unique games merging towards generic action just for a slice of the sales pie.
Sorry but the next games I plan on buying are Far Cry 3, X-Com: Enemy Unknown and Rainbow 6: Patriots [if it isn't too bad that is] and Hitmanm Absolution....I have a few pother games on my hit list I will be getting day one like Torchlight II, have it pre-ordered on Steam, can't wait for that....
IDK, this game just looks like it's lost what RE was about....it was never about movement or what weapons you could get, it was about feeling isolated, trapped knowing you don't have enough to keep you going forever and not too sure when help arrives if help arrives.....relying on wits to get you through not being like every other third person cover based shooter......
I could be wrong, the game could end up surprising a lot of people [if that happens I'll buy it] but I don't see it happening at this point.....Prove me wrong Capcom, I dare you....
