Capcom's action-focussed survival horror game is held off top spot by FIFA 13, even though EA Sports' title dropped 72 per cent in sales over last week.
Unlike Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6 has failed to reach the top of the UK games chart on release. Despite an early Tuesday release last week (games are traditionally released in the UK on Friday), the game failed to beat FIFA 13 to the number one position, which was the UK's best selling game for the second week running.
UK games chart compiler Chart-Track does not release sales data to the public, but its report on this week's chart highlights the success of EA Sports' football title over Capcom's action game. The site says that while Resident Evil 6's launch was the fourth biggest of 2012 to date, FIFA 13 "easily" held on to the number one spot on the All Formats Chart despite dropping 72 per cent of its sales over last week.
Looking back at reports released by Chart-Track in 2009, Resident Evil 6's performance is in stark contrast to that of its predecessor. The outfit reported that Resident Evil 5 was both the fastest selling game in franchise history and Capcom’s biggest ever launch when it landed in the UK on March 13, 2009. It added that the game accounted for 27.1 per cent of all revenue from console games on launch week, which equated to slightly more than the combined sales of all the remaining all formats top 10 titles for that week, and its sales figures surpassed sales of FIFA 09’s Christmas number one week from the previous year.

To be honest RE6 isn't all that bad... sure the over abundance of QTE did spoil the fun of an otherwise classic survival horror experience, but the great graphics, good narrative and the lengthy campaign made up for the short-comings. 4.5 is a little too harsh, I would give it 7.5 minimum. just my personal opinion. I agree with the others who feel that overall, RE5 and RE4 was a better experience.

resident evil6 is ok it.is beter then resident evil rac/city. leos campaign is alot beter then the rest of them.his is more movin and shootin then the rest.

2 Like Funny how even the news section is biased against re6 , while this game is selling like cake in japan. The PS3 version is topping the charts at No.1 and 360 version in the same list at No.5 . Why?? Because this game is actually good. Google it, its Capcom's highest and second highest in japan after Final Fantasy XIII And theres a good reason why the reviews are extremely mixed with more positive reviews .PS3 with an average of 77 and 360 with an average of 66 on metacritic inclusive of gamespot's crappy review . Kevein V u fail as a reviewer honestly , best u admit your review was an utter 'sham' in the next podcast or something.
Been playing every Resident Evil since 1996. This isnt a survival horror anymore. Perhaps a action horror in the same genre as gears of war. Ive played this game and i know for a fact that its a good game , and others who have 'actually' played it will tell the same.

5 Like I think it's interesting how Gamestop chooses to continually treat this game so negatively. The big sales story today was that Re6 opened with a HUGE #1 in Japan and outsold Re5's entire run in the first week. Sadly, that is nowhere to be seen on this site. Also, Capcom announced the first round of free DLC today. I'm thankful I read a variety of sites because it's pretty one sided over here.
@aluccard I read a variety of sites too, most of them still say RE6 is a pretty mediocre game. Given the complete change of genre, I find the GS review the most fair and useful of them all to fans who wait for years to play their favorite horror game. I bought every RE game on release - had i done this with RE6 too, I would really be depressed with Gears of War - zombie mode that I would get instead. Now I saved my money for Dishonored, and I thank Gamespot for this.
@blee575 So have I starting with RE1. There's been a lot of hits and misses over the years, but I don't think RE6 is one of them. It has some issues, but overall, I thought it was a great game. Based on what you said here, it sounds like you didn't pick this game up. I was shocked at how much actual "horror" they put into this game after reading this review. There is plenty of old school style to like here and plenty of set pieces that feel right at home with RE2/CV. Obviously, everyone is different and I'm not complaining about some of the review, but I suggest that you read some of the really positive ones also. This is not raccoon city garbage here and it's worth checking out.
1st - Fifa 13 number 1 in the UK...why is that shocking? Fifa games are MAKE for the UK.. or to be more specific, the EU market. How many sales Fifa 13 have in the U.S ?20?
2nd- Fifa 13 is a PG game. And that will automatically give then more sales than a game like Resident Evil with is 18+.
How you compare Resident Evil with Fifa 13 ?... hmm I guess you could kick the zombies heads around... maybe.

@vader501st @fog90 I'm most surprised about RE4. Leon's campaign in RE6 is almost exactly the same QTEwise.
@fog90 Agreed, Heavy Rain, God of War II and III and even RE 5 were a lot more QTE intensive and got reasonably good scores. That's some great logic for you. It's their loss, anyway.

Resi 5 was hyped, it promised so much, esp about the light, the background and the return of Chris and Jill.
So it naturally sold a lot, right from the start.
Resi 6 on the other hand, took a lot of negative hype, esp in the west, so it will naturally sell less at start.
But as the hype will settle and ppl will start thinking for themselves, the sales will be balanced, just like it happened with ROC...
Which do you think Capcom would care more, being number one in the chart or being number one in sell?
FIfa 13 is CRAP. typical shit made from EA but UK is known to have a lot of soccer-addicts....The only games that really interest me this fall is Dishonored and XCOM
