Resident Evil 5 sales surpass 5 million

E3 2009: Publisher confirms latest survival horror shooter passes Resident Evil 2 as new franchise sales leader after quintuple-platinum milestone.

LOS ANGELES--Last week, Capcom's chief financial officer Kazuhiko Abe said during the Reuters Global Technology Summit that Resident Evil 5 sold 570,000 units in April, bringing the game's total shipped figure to 4.97 million.

Today, Capcom confirmed that RE5 covered the remaining 30,000 units to the next milestone, bringing the survival horror game's total global shipment tally to more than 5 million. Capcom notes that Resident Evil 5 sales have now set a new franchise record, having surpassed Resident Evil 2's 4.96-million-unit peak.

The game isn't done selling yet by a long shot, by Capcom's estimates. As part of Abe's Reuters Summit presentation, the company CFO said that RE5 sales are now expected to exceed 1 million units during Capcom's current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010. The PC edition of the game is expected to launch later this year. In May, the publisher forecast fiscal-year sales of ¥95 billion ($961.3 million), with operating income projected to rise to ¥15.5 billion ($156.9 million).

Capcom is also seeing success with Resident Evil Degeneration, which launched for the iPhone and iPod Touch on May 12. According to the publisher, the $6.99 downloadable game based on the film of the same name achieved the No. 1 sales position on the iTunes Store on the day of its release.

Yeah I agree with the dude below, RE2 is way better! And yes I agree with others on the fact is sold so well was the unbelievable hype!!! (which it didn't really live up to, fear of the dark?? what happened to that eh?!?) I just hope they go back to the roots for RE6, taking in some of the feedback from reviews, and not just thinking "it sold more than old REs so fans must want more of this type of RE" *sigh*

Good now they can make a proper Resident Evil 2 remake with all the money they just earned.

Hopefully this means we'll get a lot more bonus add-on content for the game. :) Want more chapters + costumes + unlockables!

That's a lot of people for Sheva to wind up with her incompetence, she really got on my nerves with her penchant for friendly fire, time after time shooting me in the back of the head, wasting ammo like it was free. Still enjoyed it though, just didn't like her, the simpleton.

or another thing they can learn BlackBaldwin is that you CAN make a multiplatform game a REALLY GOOD GAME, not just throw it on every console to make sales!

Metalprofi 5 pts

bring it to pc hurryyyyyyyyyy, cant wait anymore:(

Kinda saddens me to see it pass the RE2 game but oh well cheers to the future of Resident Evil andhopefully this game can be the shinning example to other developers that being single minded to one console isn't always the wisest. :)

The game doesn't deserve sale figures that high, It paled in comparison to RE4, Had horrible screen tear & awful QTE events, This game has to be the biggest dissapointment of the year so far.........until bethesda decide to ruin another elder scrolls game......... Oh c'mon, biggest disappointment.. my ass! Res5 is a decent game, let people enjoy its' success. It may not be as good as the fourth, but it is by noooooooooo means a disappointment.

There going to sell more then a million, during there time from now to there fiscal year. If the PC port is good. (Better be nothing like the Resident evil 4 port.) Then a lotttt of people are going to buy it. I know I will. Can't be bothered to go into my brothers bedroom, to play Resident Evil 5 on my PS3. PC FTW! Anyway, I know for a fact to play it properly. Is going to require a joypad. Same goes for Street Fighter 4 on PC. Hopefully, they add proper support for both M/K and joypads!

I'm kind of surpise RE4 didn't sell better then it did. It was on the GC and PS2. But cool for RE5, that game is really kick a**.

Reason why this game is doing so well: Being released against little competition, marketed really well, and the much faster paced gameplay. As an overall game, I'll still take RE 4 over this one anyday. RE 4 would have easily surpassed RE 5 in sales as well if it got an Xbox port as well, because that would mean sales across all the platforms of that generation. But kudos to Capcom for reading the pulse of the mainstream gamer population, making it multiconsole and then marketing the heck out of it.

While I really like RE 5 Dazza14gb has some good points. I think one of the reasons that it is doing so well is becuase it is the only really big game to be releast in a while, so its lack of compitition is really paying of for Capcom.
