First of all if you dont like a system then you should go mind your own friggen business and second who cares....games are meant for two things A for people to have fun playing them, and B for companies to make profit..

@plm3d_basic Perhaps you should play something before you criticize it. The GameCube was far from a stinker. For that matter, I'd much rather have a GameCube than a Wii. At least then I'd have good games to play :).

@gudni: I did some searching and as it turns out 360 does have the most software sales worldwide (Aussie, Europe, Japan, Other) it's just that the majority of their software sales come from the U.S., since the U.S. is now the worlds largest gaming market it was able to push software sales forward while the others balanced it out. Please keep in mind that we aren't counting hardware bundles, these are stand alone game sales. I favorited the link, if I can find it I will post it here.

@ TheArcade Didnt they talk about software sales in the Game Developers Conference. Im pretty sure that someone there explained how the Wii sells the most in software, just not in the US, but globally.

japanese gamer tend to buy game with great graphic .... wii games without one, even has great motion control, can't have good sales .... I think ...

@TheArcade According to your logic games such as MarioKart(Wii) and WiiFit only sold well because they came with peripherals but Monster 4X4: World Circuit was packaged with a wheel peripheral just like MarioKart(Wii) and was released at launch. Maybe you can explain why Monster 4X4: World Circuit failed despite being packaged with the wheel that you claim made MarioKart(Wii) a success.

I really thought Nintendo would go the way of Sega when the Gamecube started losing out severely to the Xbox and PS2. Their handheld division was keeping them afloat, and then the unloaded the Wii. I honestly didn't see this coming from Nintendo but congrats to them.

Impressive numbers. Lets hope for more games that are good.

This is Nintendo's revenge for the last generation which was the Gamecube. Lol. How many people bought that stinker? Also I'd be curious about how much Wii Fit cost to develop. I'd wager less than a million. Who the hell buys that to lose weight? Go buy a good pair of running shoes and go play sports and stop playing video games and stuffing your face with chips and you'll lose ten times the weight.

how bout some wii sales drops so nintendo realizes they gotta stop bein jaggoffs with that restrictive friend code crap? i'd like that. until then, i'll stick to my *soon-to-be-purchased* 360.

@ kiramasaki the wiimote controls need to better. yeah i could buy a light gun with the game . But with the game it would cost 70 to 80 $. i not gonna pay that much for a game i gonna beat in 4 hours or less. It would not be worth buying the gun with so few rail shooters out nowadays .god forbid we gamers try to play games differently. i just got the wii 4 days ago. i get excited with all my new systems . god forbid i like the wii . if it gives me enjoyment then it does it's job . thats all that matters. i still the ps3 and 360 better but the wii is fun little system. games are for having fun . why so serious?

Actually who currently does have the most software sales? If there is an official source available that keeps this data then I want to know where it is. From what I know in 360's first couple of years it showed that it had the most overall game sales. Sure Wii software sales sky rocketed since then but that was do in large part by some kind of software bundles or games bunched with peripherals, it's hard to locate. SSBB and Metroid Prime 3 are the only games that I can remember which don't come with some kind of 3rd party item yet has sold reletivaly well. 360's overall software tally should have it beat. In overall GAME sales Assassin's Creed, DC vs. MK Universe, Street Fighter IV, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears 1 & 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, GTA: IV, Madden, Orange Box in terms of non-bundled games 360 I think has the most software sales, period.

@BLuFAlcOn: What amazes me is that you listed some of the worst tiles in gaming (Wii fit, and Play) and they're bestsellers. That says something far more interesting than arbritary comparisons of sales for different systems. Since all three systems are working out well enough to ensure their next generations, I'm more interested in who is putting out the quality games. SSBB is a good game... Halo 3 was a good game, even if it wasn't all that it was hyped to be, and MGS4 was a spectacular game. I don't see a loss for anyone there.

I fail to understand how that can say that the Wii's decline in sales recently is tied to the depression. Then, in the same paragraph, say that Playstation 3 has outsold the Wii. If it's due to the depression, why are people buying the more expensive hardware?

@MonsieurLynx I'm very sorry to inform you that those games are terrible.... They were only good @ N64, since then, BJ and PD went bad... But look at the bright side, even though I hate the 360's, they still made an effort to reach 1M mark. That's because of sheer blackmailing. ...Look at the Wii, it sold up to 8M in Japan, even though Nintendo never blackmailed any companies to release GTA4 with an exclusive DLC, release a bad port of FFXIII and Tekken 6, and releasing Street Fighter 4 with a Downloading video, and releasing a ruined port of Soulcalibur 1 (not legends), and never killed the Resident Evil and Tekken franchise... but they worked hard from the near-death rate of the console to the top market. When DC died and SEGA decided to be a game developer, Nintendo survived and created the Wii. Whether people like it or hate it, the Wii has done something good to the 7th generation of gaming. @ xbox4life76 ...sorry but you're wrong about that.... Wii Play sold the most game in the 7th gen wars. 360 sold the best selling game...yeah righ.... 360's best selling game is Halo 3 - 8.1 Million PS3's best selling game is Motorstorm/Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - 3.31/3 Million Wii's best sellinggame is Wii Sports/Play/Fit. - 40.5M /20.9M /14.01M Since they're bundled, it wouldn't be fair so we'll take Mario Kart Wii- 13.67M, oh wait, the wheel...... Ok, it's Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 8.1M, same as Halo 3. Even though Brawl is better. SSBB is Wii's 5th best selling game, and Halo 3 is the 360's best-selling game. So I doubt it that the Wii has the lowest selling software...

I'm glad the Wii helped Nintendo bounce back after lackluster previous generations (although the Gamecube didn't do too shabby in Japan and just barely sold less than Xbox in America). Maybe next gen Nintendo will step the hardware up, now that they're swimming in profits. Or maybe they won't. Who knows. Who cares. I still enjoy SNES games from time to time; HD graphics haven't impressed me enough to stop looking back yet. And though it's a drop in the bucket compared to overall market share, I'm glad PS3s are selling better too, because it's a worthy system. It's taking time but more and more people are recognizing it. I love my Wii, and I love my PS3 too.

@kiramasaki The same can be said about you and your console whichever one(s) it may be. Why don't you try paintball or airsoft if you like shooting games? Or try Racing of some sort if you like driving games, or Martial Arts if you like fighting games? I can somewhat agree with tenlong, he even pointed out my fact statement that most people who hate on the Wii haven't even played one and just judge the system. Most people who actually try to play the Wii end up liking it in some form or another. We've all played games like your system offers and indeed it is fun, but I don't see how people immediately say things abouot the Wii without even playing it. But to each their own. Fact is, Nintendo is finally back with a product that has caught many people's attention and they are getting what they deserve from it.

That great and all, but I kinda wish this didn't happen until after E3. Things are starting to sour in the Japanese market and that's the sort of shot in the arm they need now that they have a strong base to push games to. THIS only leads to more of the same mentality they've held for a while now. You know what I'm talking about; the mindset that left the last few E3's having more to do with watching them roll in money than showcasing efforts to keep interest hot. I mean I like Wii Sports and casual stuff, but that's not played out of an engaged desire, that's a diversion.

@xbox4life76: The Wii is sold at a profit. By contrast, see the whole "1 million sold" controversy. I'm not going to spell it out here, but the bottom line is that Nintendo makes a lot of money selling Wiis, whereas Sony and MS sell at a loss. I think that's reflected in the value of the product, but I can appreciate that there is clearly an audience for a lower-priced and less "hardcore" device. I have no problem with that. I just wish that Nintendo were willing to go multiplatform with their IPs, if they're going to insist on the low-price low-power route.

You can take what you want from this article, everyone has there views and points why one console sells more then another console. And I'm pretty sure the money is made with the selling of games, not the consoles and I'm also sure the Wii doesn't sell the most games, so again, take what you want from the article.

Well, so that phony PS3 article was just that from two weeks ago. Looks like everybody who can't tell the difference from a day to a year swallowed that GameSpot garbage story in an instant. UPC/SKU scans put it more below that above, though.

japan use to be hardcore fans back when they were buying the saturn and dreamcast it seemed like they liked whatever system had the best games but i was wrong cause they only like whatever is a japanese product. i don't care where a console comes i live in the uk. i have a saturn and dreamcast and sega are japanese but i did not care about that i got there consoles because the games were quality which is the same reason i have an xbox 360 now because the games are quality

Wii sells 7 million while the PS3 sells 2.7 million. The difference is unbelieveable. And makes me laugh at the PS3's sales. @nappan Hardware is useful if there are games it's COMPATIBLE with. So "shovelware" could still work with Hardware.

@MassacreMonk: It matters because selling hardware is a big way that Nintendo makes its money now. That probably has something to do with the decline in the quality of games, and the rise of SHOVELWARE.

Dosn't matter how much hardware you sell if you have no software to back it up. The only thing that's more common then Depends in an old folks home, is a Wii.

Nintendo is kicking all kind of ass. Who would have forseen this. Look at the forecasts before this gen by Webush and all them they had this system dead last this gen. Props to Nintendo even though I am a hardcore PS360 guy.

@tenlong: I might agree with you if the Wii simulated ANY of those things. However, without 1:1 motion control, all you end up doing in these games is shaking, angling, and waggling. Try fencing sometime, it's not painful like boxing, and it's a lot of fun. Also, a little punctuation wouldn't kill you, and it would make reading your posts a lot easier.
