Report: 40GB PS3 confirmed for Europe (again)

OK...we'll see what console is still alive after 5 years...I doubt it'll be x360. Microsoft will probably make a new xbox in 3 years anyway, and then you'll have to buy that one because they will stop making games for the x360. In Japan they are proud of what they make, so they keep it alive longer. Look at the PS2, it's still alive, and then look at the xbox???? So in 5 years we can still buy games for the PS3. You people who buy x360 should just use your money on a gaming PC, it's probably more worth after 5 years. And when a software company makes a gaming console it's full of bugs and miss alot of important things for the future...like...aa....HDMI.....and..aaa...a bigger storage disc......"oh wait...I'll just buy a new x360"....and then you have spent more money on the x360 then a PS3. Microshaft is just trying to kill the console marked with low tech crap

um ps3 has 3 good games out which is RFOM warhawk and HS which is a rental so how is ps3 not lacking games when i have 37 xbox 360 games i bought and plus in thoes 37 most of them are one ps3 and 360 in the first year sold quiet well so i dont know what you talking about basicly and call of duty 2 pdz fight night 3 and graw where games that came out in less then 6 months then a year later gears vegas double agent oblivion saints row start coming but it took ps3 a while for thoes games to hit that system so um before you judge 360 have facts. and ps3 has no software to back up 600 dollars while the 360 was only backing up 400 so theres a price diffeence and plus all the multiplatform games play and look better on 360 so that gives a reason why ps3 dont have no games dont get my wrong i have a ps3 il take a picture of it with my 360 and 37 games and 2 ps3 games with the WoW and the expansion on top of them

jimjam146. I'm a little more optimistic about the PS3's prospects. A quick look shows 3 PS3 games with the 9+ and 8 games with 9+ for the 360 which has been out twice as long. The 360's ace in the hole was simply they have good games and came out first. I think they do have a bright future and will have a long and successful run, but to call the PS3's future "tenuous" because of a slow start is naive in my opinion. Clearly analysts who track the industry feel the same way. And you can critisize the analysts all you want but they aren't fanboys and they aren't biased. They get paid to give their views on industries and if an industry, or a company, isn't going to produce the type of growth investors want to see in the long run, they aren't doing themselves any favors by releasing feel good predictions. Are they right 100% of the time? Of course not, but I'll take the analysts predictions over rants on forums any day. And I agree with their assessments. The PS3 future looks bright.

This system has to have BC. As long as there are firmware updates it should have BC. Unless they have different updates for the 40 GB version. Most firmware increases the amount of software emulation for ps2 games.

@dakrider66: Oh I get you now, so it was another faulty 360 argument. I agree with you, if the problem happens again with my 360 I'm gonna trade it at the store I got it and if they won't then I'll probably buy a fixed one. If the 360 worked fine I'd go for that but if it was just one I'd get a PS3, I'm gonna get a 40gb one if its the right price. I'll never use the multimedia card so don't care about that and I'll ot use the USB ports (do you need to use wireless usb adaptors for the six axis?) and EE never was in the UK PS3's so I'm fine with that. Only thing I don't like is that I'll prbably have to get another hard drive since I'd want to save my games to the hard drive to speed up loading times and I'd probably want to use the PSN too.

Somedude69 - I own a 60 GB, and I'm yet to use 40 GBs of my HDD, use more than two USB ports, use the multimedia card slots (will probably never use those), and even the 80 GB doesnt use the E.E., but rather software emulation, which I'm sure the 40 GB will use. I'd buy the 40 GB over the 80 GB my self, especially considering the HDD is upgradable.

darkride66 - I disagree with your assesment that 8's are all you need to sell consoles. Sony's lack of "editor's choice" type games is killing them right now, especially when there are so many on the 360. I don't consider the Wii to be a long term threat because it only has the power of the original Xbox and that's just not next-gen enough to win long term. The best selling entertainment franchise I was referring to is of course Halo 3. I think you might be being overly optimistic with your assesment about the PS3 but who knows? Sigil-otaku. No no. 360 games look fine. I love mine. I meant staring at the actually disk and not being able to play them is rather annoying. I have nothing against the 360, other than I wished mine worked. The games are fantastic. As the resident game guy in my office, when people ask my opinion I'll tell them the 360 has the best game lineup right now but the failure rate should give you pause. Would you buy a new car if you knew it would break down every 6 months if the store said they'd fix it for free for 3 years? I think that if you could only buy one console you'd be better of with the PS3 in the long run. That's just my opinion.

Why is everyone complaining about a lower price?! The ps3 is a great console that was to expensive for most gamers. With that price lowered more people will have acces to great games.. Isn't that what's the most important? These console wars are making me sick..

Oh yeah, I agree Sigil-otaku. I'm just saying I wouldnt consider Halo 3 a high point to compare other games graphics to. I really dont think Halo 3's graphics stand out at all, but I do think they look nice. It certainly isnt a bad looking game by any means.

and or the record, building a circle box (because a circle is made of infinite triangles, which is teh strongest geometrical shape) doesnt make it stronger. If you can get teh analogy, PS3 is overkill and SONY is asking all developers to change the way they do things. Its why sony fails @ everything...they want it there way or no way.

@carljohnson: Halo 3 has good graphics in my opinion, not too many games do actually have better graphics than it as whenever I ask anyone they don't have any example except Gears which is on the 360, Heavenly sword or games that will come out in 4 months or something. I'm not saying Halo's graphics are ace but they are definitely next gen and close to the top graphics titles.

Blueray, wi-fi, bluetooth and every PS3 has HDMI. PS3 is on a tech level, better than the 360!! And once the big games come out example: Drakes uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Haze, Killzone, Final Fantasy and so on and so on! The PS3 will take off! The 40 gig model is good for people on a budget, and is good for sony because i believe alot will sell over christmas!! ---- agreed, what in gods name does tech have to do with games. Sony released a one off CPU, asking every developer to take a new "standard" to develop games for the ps3. blu-ray's ONLy benefit it carries more space. HDMI and DVI have INDENTICLE quality. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray have IDENTICLE quality. Look @ sony's big picture. ...to get Blu-Ray in every houshold and make $3.00 profit on EVERY COPY PRINTED OF EVERY MOVIE ON BLU-RAY OR PS3. Thats what PS3 is all about, not video games.

Sigil-otaku, Halo 3 isnt that great looking. There are alot more games that better looking than Halo 3, on the PS3 and 360. It's no where near the league of Gears. Gears of War has probably the best graphics out there for now, it's amazing.

Yes I can see the argument having you state errors a few hundred times more but either way I'll let it slide since that is all you can really insult about the 360. I never said there was a problem with the 20gb model it was just never released in the UK or europe and discontinued in the US so it must be unpopular to say the least. It is better than a core 360 no argument, I got a core and bought a hard drive later but that was only cos the premiums were all sold out. So your saying looking at 360 games is hard or something? Gears and Halo 3 look better than anything on the PS3 so far except Heavenly sword beats Halo 3 but Gears is better than that.

Heck yes man. This will help the PS3 alot, and seeing as they have alot of important releases all the way until Spring this will surely boost the PS3 by a crap load. Price and lack of software are the only things hurting the PS3... and time seems to be curing both. :-)

jimjam146. I respectfully disagree. First off, 8+ games sell consoles. It's important that quality games come out for the PS3, as it is for every console. The Wii is the best selling console, (not counting the DS), which I believe you are referring to with "number one selling entertainment franchise". And I don't understand how anyone can have a problem with this. It's a PS3. It's cheaper. What's the issue? It'll have 65 games by Christmas and a bright future when developers have some serious time to develop (good games usually take time, as I'm sure you're aware). Competition is good for everyone, and this is great news. Period.

I think you have your companies mixed up. In my opinion people are still complaining because now they now what the games are and are like. See if Sony was cheaper up front people would have bought the system because at that point there wasn't a picture painted of no games. Now Sony is lowering the price but people know going in that a lot the games play better on the 360 and there is a far larger selection of games on the 360.

Still, it had the best console launch ever in the UK, even if the Wii (what, a 3rd of the price?) has currently overtaken it in total sales. Did you want to correct my spelling errors as well? My point is it's selling well, has a nice lineup of games and looks to become cheaper. What's not to like? As for Sigil-otaku. Perhaps the shortage of 360's was due to them all being repaired. Having games in the 8 range does not sell consoles. You have to crack the nines with your exclusives as Microsoft has done. Also, if all the 360s out there are broken, I guess it has become the number one selling entertainment franchise because people like the box art.

Games that score over 8 do not sell consoles. You need to crack nine on your exclusives and I don't think Sony has done that once yet. Also, if the 360s are all broken, then how come so many people bought Halo 3. There must be a couple of consoles out there that are still workling!

@darkride66: 50+ isn't very many games saying it's been out a year. It was only the fastest selling console in the UK cos MS ran out of stock since they didn't bother holding them back to produce more, Sony made around 250,000 and I can't remember how many they put out but they didn't sell out whereas MS did so the fastest selling console thing doesn't matter. Yeah it'll give me something to laugh at, wasn't the 20gb discontinued because it was unpopular and people didn't want it? So whats different with an extra 20gb and barely anymore better games? I'm waiting for my second and it is annoying but it's better to have a console that has games atleast.

This is great news. New console, cheaper without giving up anything important. Already 50+ games, 60% of which are rated 8 or higher (from this site) plus a huge library of PS2 games. The PS3 was already the fastest selling console in the UK, ever, and this should give them a nice little boost. Plus, it'll give people something to do while they wait for their 360's to come back from repairs. Right now, my copy of Halo 3 might as well be used to prop up a table leg because I'm waiting for my 4th 360. Warhawk is currently making me forget I even own a 360.

I would seriously consider buying one at that price point. Especially when the dual shock 3 releases (which they will no doubt bundle with it). 2008-2009 can possibly be a good catch up year for Sony.

You have to feel a little sorry for Sony at this point. They are trying everything in their power to boost sales for their console. I do not think that price is the problem with the PS3 considering it has BluRay built in. People will always pay more if there is a perception that they are getting more. The PS3s tragic flaw so far is its lack of quality games. Even the delayed multi-platform games are turning out inferior the the 360 versions. Soon, Sony will have to start worrying about losing their existing customers in addition to gaining new ones.

kbzoner...you must be pretty naive you think the PS3 is going to take off...i mean bringing up "killer apps" like haze and KZ2, what makes you think they wont score another 4.5 like ur lair "killer app" hmmm?

Wow, first you *itch and moan about it being too expensive, and then when they finally give you what you want you throw it back at them saying it's a desparation move. Yes the 40gb is missing like 2 things from the others (or 3 if you count the EE) but seriously, if it was that important to you then you'd own one of the other models already.
