Rayman Legends delayed to 2013

Ubisoft confirms Wii U platformer pushed back to next year; publisher says delay will allow development team more time to polish the game.
Ubisoft has confirmed that it has pushed back the launch of upcoming Nintendo Wii U platformer Rayman Legends to the first quarter of 2013.
According to the publisher, the delay will allow the development team more time to work on the game.
"We're happy that fans are excited about the game, and we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations," Ubisoft said in a statement to GameSpot.
"We'll have more details to share soon."
Rayman Legends, the sequel to last year's Rayman Origins, was scheduled to release alongside the launch of the Wii U later this year.
The Wii U will be launching in North America on November 18; in Europe and Australia on November 30; and in Japan on December 8.
Rayman Legends takes advantage of the Wii U controller by allowing a form of co-op that mixes traditional platforming with a second screen.

1 Like Lol, that was BEYOND delayed, it's almost never a good sign when a game gets cancelled more than once as there have been great games that were originally dropped but picked up by another developer (Sleeping Dogs being the most recent and Bayonetta 2 eventually).
It's actually good for the Wii U launch because usually what happens when you're given more games than you can afford at one time? Removing Rayman Legends at launch gives more focus to other titles while still giving us a great title to look forward to. Plus I know my brother and sister would've preferred Mario over Rayman so at least I can help improve my sister's skills by the time Rayman Legends comes out.
Ugh I lost all interest in this when I learnt it was gonna be a Wii U exclusive... Maybe I'll buy a Wii U but that won't be at least 'til next year.
I know everyone is going to disagree but I think the Wii U is going to flop.
It's price will probably drop as fast as the 3DS did.

It doesn't feel exiting or new and I don't like the tablet controller . Why should I get a new console that is not a leap forward from this gen of consoles?

Actually it is, I'm still kind of baffled that a lot of people seem to have forgotten what the beginning of this generation looked like, same with the beginning of pretty much any generation of gaming.
If you're curious, look up Doom 3 or Conker's Bad Fur Day Live and Reloaded for the original XBox and compare them to 360 launch titles, the differences are not that huge. We're at the beginning of the WiI U's life span and it's able to easily put out visuals that are slightly superior than what we see now (and those games are pushing the limits of the current generation).
Frozenbyte Studios said that the Wii U version of Trine 2, the director's cut, will feature new stages and if they were to release these stages for the PS3/360, they would have to scale it down for those systems, what does that tell you? Also Unity Engine CEO confirmed that the Wii U is indeed a leap forward from this generation, since it will be running their Unity4 engine, which can produce visuals comparable to that of the Unreal Engine 4.
And like 96augment said, you didn't explain your reasoning behind your initial statement of the Wii U flopping.

Yeah, because Rayman Legends was designed for the Wii U. In case you didn't notice, the other consoles don't come with a tablet controller.
awww this was one of my 4 pre-orders when i got the buy 3 get 1 free deal at bestbuy\futureshop o wells ill have 3 other games to keep me busy
This does not effect me because I'm not buying Wii U until next year anyway and by then, I should buy both Beyonetta 2 and Rayman Legends at the same time.
I do not know why always delayed is sometimes a synonym for a bad thing. I rather have a better/polished product than a rushed/bad product.
2 Like Exactly, plus this is probably for the best, instead of competing with other games at launch, especially Mario, Ubisoft can build up more hype for it so when it does come out, people who be more likely to get it right away.
1 Like As long as the game's polished and fixed up more then there's nothing bad about it being delayed. Better to play a working game than a broken one.

Returning to the topic: The delay is better for this game to polish and make it better. There are other big titles for Wii U that are alternative for Rayman Legend like ZombiU.

I was looking forward to having this at launch, but hey-ho... I can wait. It's going to be awesome, Origins was an excellent return to form.
1 Like Indeed, I FINALLY got hired for my new job so at least this gives me time to get money for this game :D In the meantime, I'll be playing Mario and Assassin's Creed and laughing at my sister getting owned in Ninja Gaiden XD
It was bound to happen. Games get delayed all the time, but as long as it's out eventually I'm fine. :P

No it won't, because the other platforms don't have the gameplay capabilities that the tablet controller provides.

Here's why Rayman Legends will remain exclusive for Wii U:
2 Like Incoming demands for a third party game to not be exclusive on a Nintendo console, which is all we can expect when they get exclusive third party support, though when someone like Sony gets it (ala Tekken and Final Fantasy in the PSOne and PS2 eras), it's perfectly fine and no one cares.
@nintendoboy16 I think they have to prove their hardware is different enough to consumers before touting exclusives.
Even if Sony or Microsoft announced their new home console, there won't be a huge graphical leap like from PS2 to PS3, or from original Xbox to Xbox360.
I don't hate Sony or Microsoft, they are both great companies, but I don't like the idea that they copy ideas from each other like Microsoft Kinect copied PS2 Eyetoy, or PS Move Stick copied Nintendo Wii Remote.
its doesnt help them now anyways since they still been using that crap controller for a decade already lol they just started making use with it with the eye toy this gen
Sony demonstrated PS Move technology LONG before Nintendo ever showed off the Wii controller. They demonstrated it in 2001 running on the PS2.
@nintendoboy16 PSOne had VERY different tech to the other platforms. Nowadays, they're pretty much on par (that is, until 720 and PS4 come and whomp the shit out of the current gen WiiU. Go look at Arkham City Armored Edition and tell me that's better graphics :p )
Have you actually looked at the screen shots of Arkham City on the Wii U? The graphics have been pretty significantly enhanced.

Of course Arkham City looks the same, it's a multiplat game, no one is going to make a new engine just to take advantage of WiiU's power. Titles with better graphics will come out eventually, if that's what important to you.
As for the Next Xbox and PS4, wait atleast the companies to announce them, you sound like an Aztec talking about the christian God.

@Rovelius Agreed. There is virtually no reason to buy a Wii U at launch, except for Pikmin and W101.
