Ubisoft offers Wii U owners Rayman Legends' challenge mode early.
After upsetting the Wii U's Rayman Legends fans by announcing a delay to make way for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the once-exclusive title, Ubisoft will be releasing the game's challenge mode for free on the Wii U eShop.
"We just wanted to reach out and let you know how truly humbled we were by the outpouring of support from the community and the fans about the announcement of the delay of Rayman Legends, and let you know that it definitely hurt us to see you guys so upset about the delay," said senior game manager Michael Micholic on Rayman's Facebook page.
"We have another two fans sitting in front of the studio protesting," added creative director Michel Ancel.
The challenge mode for Rayman Legends will be released in April and will offer a series of daily and weekly challenges for between one and five players, though Ubisoft did not say how much original content this mode would contain.
Players' records across these challenges will be stored on leaderboards.
The challenge mode will replace Ubisoft's previous promise of an exclusive demo. Rayman Legends will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U in September.

Wow. Really? People were whining because it's going to be multi-platform? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?
Exclusives are ONLY good to the companies. But fanboys will be fanboys. Never seeing the big picture...
@Raxyman It wasn't about it being multiplat... It was due to the fact that the Wii U version is finished and due to release in next week... about 3 weeks from the time of the announcement. The game would have been great in the current software drought for the Wii U. Now, it's going to be going up against so many other great games in the fall such as GTAV, LOZ WWHD, and a lot of other generally great games. People were looking forward to it... It was originally a launch title for the Wii U and many bought the Wii U to be able to play this games. Its been one of the more anticipated Wii U titles.
so it was planned as exclusive, now it comes out on xbox and ps3, too? and then the wii u owners have to wait till xbox and ps3 version is out? thats uncool ubisoft...
Everyones buying GTA V instead of this game, when its released. Ubisoft just commited suicide with this move. Thats what they get for trying to be greedy. They just fucked over the fans and the developers. I love Rayman and I was stoked when I found out its no longer a Wii U exclusive. But making the Wii U owners wait when its already finished and releasing it in september along side GTA V is just retarded. GTA V vs a 2D platformer? Im sorry but Ill be choosing GTA V. Not to mention the legend of zelda wind waker remake is also likley coming out around that time. I cant wait till Ubisoft looks at all the disappointing sales and realize what they did.
@ABakedAlien since when do ppl buy only one game? and GTA V compared to Rayman Legends :D ?...i think both games will ace it each in their own way
Ubisoft...just fricking relase the game as you promised its finished....people are supposed to wait or just be happy with a stop-gap measure so you guys can cash in? I own all systems and Dont like what Ubisoft has done here...theyre doing a money-hungry cash grab.....and its an ugly sight.....
Thus far the trolls against Nintendo are as follows:
and perhaps...3 others i've forgotten. These guys enter every related Nintendo article, to insult and cherish its' "hopeful" demise.
Dreamfist11, dunno..he seems to have trolled like, a year ago, but became normal as of recent....like he doesn't give a crap either way..
Emptycow on the other hand, is from an entirely different realm of space.
@alrepairs You could... I dunno.
@alrepairs By putting in that much effort, you're giving them evidence to say you're just a super fanboy :).

Bet you said the same thing about the 3DS :) Bet you said the same thing about the PS3. Bet you don't own a Wii U, let alone having tried it for more than 10 minute at your local game shop. I bet you're the type of person who is 'always right' around your friends, those you have left. If you're Michael Pachter you should just **** off. But it's none of the above, you're just a judgemental douchebag.
I can understand their predicament. The Wii U playerbase alone does not offer enough return on investment, and they have to delay it because of the licensing agreements with other console manufacturers. I think this would have been avoided if the Wii U sold well enough originally. But now they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Upset fans by delaying, or tank their financials by keeping it Wii U exclusive.
If Microsoft's licensing requirements are to blame for this, then how about cancelling the Xbox version instead of delaying the Wii U version? Microsoft will never learn if companies keep bending over backwards to accomodate them.
@CyberAly This is true, but no one wants to go first in terms of teaching Microsoft a lesson. I mean not putting out an Xbox version is a pretty daunting thing to do considering how well games usually sell there.
"We just wanted to reach out and let you know how truly humbled we were by the outpouring of support from the community and the fans about the announcement of the delay of Rayman Legends, and let you know that it definitely hurt us to see you guys so upset about the delay - but we're still not gonna change it."
I think most Wii U owners would rather have the fucking game that when it was supposed to be released for them over a worthless extra game mode most of them wouldn't have bought anyway.
@FAIL_TR0LL Why does it always have to be Wii U owners vs PS3 owners vs Xbox owners ?
I own all the consoles and play accordingly. I'm still pissed about Rayman delay because I wanted to play it on Wii U specifically. But that does not mean that I'm desperately waiting idly for a great/scrappy game of any sort.... I'm fully enjoying my Ni no Kuni right now and I could still play it until the next Zelda, Xenoblade, TLG, KH [put a name here except Rayman Origins].
It makes no sense. If they have the ability to release a part of the game for free on the eShop -- why not just put the whole game for its price tag.
The delay pissed me off, but this actually makes me happy. We'll be getting a good chuck of the game sooner, and for free too! The loss of exclusivity wasn't the frustrating part, the delay was, and even if the apology sounds like more corporate bullshit, I can certainly appreciate it. It's not Ubisoft's fault that Microsoft has shitty licensing requirements.
@mr_azim Gamespot intentionally said this, to queue the trolls.
You guys are so easily manipulated, LMAO.
@mr_azim That's shocking; all six WiiU owners gathering in one place!
@mr_azim thats the thing though, there not crap games, there ports of games that were successfull on other platforms. Now Nintendo has a machine comparable to their competators they are prone to these cross platform release conditions. Nintendo owners (me included) will just have to build a bridge and get over it!
@mr_azim Did you just call Rayman and Mario crap games? You're such a gamer...
