Raven working on "international movie license"

LinkedIn page for creative director of Activision-owned shop adds weight to rumors of James Bond game in development.

In December, James Bond fan site MI6 reported that a new James Bond game was in the works. The title, reportedly an action adventure with heavy stealth elements, is rumored to be in development at Raven Software, the Madison, Wisconsin-based shop behind Singularity, the Wolfenstein reboot, and X-Men: Ultimate Alliance.

Since then, little has been heard about the supposed Bond game, which may be a tie-in to the next James Bond film that is set to begin filming later this year. However, speculation was reignited this week by the LinkedIn resume of a Raven employee.

The employee's resume lists his position as "Creative director [on] unreleased international movie license action/adventure game at Raven Software." (Emphasis added.) Later on, he describes himself as being "involved at highest levels of game design for an unreleased high-profile movie-license action/adventure game using the Unreal 3 engine." The resume lists the game as having been in development for one year and eight months.

Of course, the name of the license was not mentioned on the resume, and Activision had not responded to requests for comment as of press time. However, the list of suspects is not long. Raven has worked on a film tie-in before, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Activision also holds the X-Men film tie-in license. Other possibilities include a Transformers title but not Spider-Man, as Beenox recently took the reins of that franchise. Raven has no history of working on tie-ins for children's films, which likely rules out such properties as Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon.

*Sigh*... This news is a reminder to me that Raven is now a subsidiary of Activision - no thanks to a decision that its founders made during 1997. Now it's reduced to making film tie-ins, and, as EA has already warned, they are becoming less-and-less profitable. (Of course, it could just be EA simply pouting about dropping the James Bond license and having Activision pick up another.) Raven has already suffered two layoffs, one in 2009 and another in 2010. I don't think that it can take another that just might occur from this upcoming licensed game. I only hope that Raven Software's ties with id Software would help it be salvaged from Activision once Activision has whittled it to crumbs.

This is a little too vague to be news isn't it? An action/adventure international film. There's gotta be thousands of those, the IP of which could be up for grabs. Guessing Bond isn't a bad starting place, but it might be shorter to guess at what it -won't- be.

Drop it. Do a new Soldier of Fortune! Raven were my favorite studio for ages, I hope they go back to their solid brand of FPS one day, there just isnt anyone like them.

I'd be all for a new Xmen Legends as long as Jubilee is playable again. I hated xml2 because they took her out when the real story of Apacolypse had alot to do with her. anywho, I'd love it to be another Soldier of Fortune game. John Mullins traveled all over the world so you could sorta call it international. Never played Singularity. Hopefully Raven will get their shining moment that they really deserve.

Maybe Raven can do a better job at making a James Bond game than Bizarre Creation, considering that they are one of the world's best yet soon-to-be-ignored developers. (Who cares about IW & Treyarch?) It also helps if Raven turn to another publisher other than Activision, since Acti was so focused on the CoD franchise, that they think that the other different game is sh*t and won't bring them billions of dollars of profits.

You should make a new Jedi Knight game, and it should feature Revan on the outskirts of the galaxy fighting the "true sith". PURELY because you could then show your company logo at the start and make a point of switching the a and e around to make the name Revan, at which point his mask fades into the background, his theme tune tinkles lightly in the undertones, and the name of the game cross-fades over the top. Jedi Knight: Revan! You should also get Bioware to help you add RPG elements to it, and write the story. EDIT: Yes I know it's not gonna happen. A guy can dream.

Singularity was good, but still had many flaws. Also, Activision did ZERO marketing for it. Raven needs to come back to the source, the SoF series: James Bond is a trap, look what happened to Bizarre...

Raven is by far one of the most underrated developers currently working today. They make some great games, Singularity being one of them. It's a shame nobody played it. The three best shooters of last year, Metro 2033, Singularity, and Call of Juarez: Bound In Blood were all ignored by the public. "Modern Warfare 32: Same games as before, but now more guns" wasn't ignored though. I guess people like cookie cutter crap more than, ya know, original and fun shooters.

It's Marvel: Ultimate Alliance no? Just wondering.

I hope they're making a game tie-in for the "Wolverine In Japan" movie. Oh, wait...

Now that would be awesome! James Bond: Soldier of Fortune

Wolfenstein was good and Singularity was good but both lack refinement and polish; they often look and feel rushed. If they took their time they could make a really impressive shooter.

Well, I guess they're going to make a really great Bond game and then get shut down, too.

Uh oh, buddy. Gotta be more careful about who gets their hands on your personal paperwork.
