Classic platforming franchise swerves onto Xbox 360 with new vehicular theme this November.
It wasn't much of a secret to begin with, but over the weekend, the door blew wide open on Microsoft and Rare's first console installment in the Banjo-Kazooie franchise since the Nintendo 64's heyday. Thanks to a spate of screenshots and leaked details from the June issue of Game Informer, Banjo-Kazooie was presented as a hybrid vehicular platformer in which players will build their own vehicles, though Rare was quick to say the game would be more than just a racer.
Today, Microsoft officially confirmed Rare's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for the Xbox 360, saying the game will arrive this November. Games mimicking life, Nuts & Bolts is set eight years after the last console edition in the series--2000's Banjo-Tooie for the N64--and Banjo along with his Breegull counterpart take up with shaman-turned-mechanic Mumbo Jumbo.
Nuts & Bolts places a strong emphasis on vehicle creation. A ranging assortment of parts will be available for players to tinker with, and gamers will be able to take their creations online to both show off and compete in multiplayer races over Xbox Live. The single-player experience offers six themed worlds to explore, and will incorporate the series' signature platforming in addition to--yes--racing elements.

WTF ARE ARE U PLAYING AT. MAKE A NORMAL PLATFORMER PLEASE. WHY DID U CHANGE IT. WORST GAME EVER. When i wos a kid i played nothing but rareware games and was proud to say they were the finest games company in the world. Sorry guys but you just lost your biggest fan. Best Rareware games: Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini. Kameo wos ok and Viva Pinata is also a pretty decent game along with Grabbed by the Ghoulies but none of these games come close to the games of the N64 years. BANJO WOS NEVER BROKEN RARE WHY FIX IT????????????????
WHAT!!!!!! XBOX!!!!!! WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OLD, FINE AND DANDY, NINTENDO SYSTEMS!!!!! I FEEL ABSOLUTELY BETRAYED!!!! (somewhat because i don't have or want an X-box 360 or any other form of x-box.....) but still.....X-BOX?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
This game will be good - I'm confident of that. But a bigger question springs to mind - where is Killer Instinct 360 ? UUUULLLTTTTRRAAACCCOOOMMMBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I was very suprised at this announcement as I expected something more similar to the originals. I think this will either end up being very bad or very good, and I believe Rare is being risky as they might loose some of their fans. Either way, I am still very interested in getting this game as I loved those days with the N64.
After so many years, I think it was really stupid to decide to change the series that much. Their best shot at really selling this game was to target the fans of the originals, and they lost a good portion of those people by doing this. I'm not saying that change is a bad thing, but I prefer when it builds on what is already there. They didn't need to bring back all the moves from Banjo-Tooie, but they should at least have built on the basics from the first game. Spin-offs are for when a game series gets stale. If you think that after two amazing games and a long hiatus this game series needs changing to be good, you're wrong. Besides, I think making a GOOD platformer should actually be considered innovation these days -- not conforming to the typical shooters, racers, etc. that we see a lot of today. By the way, this is by no stretch of the imagination an original idea. Collecting parts to build vehicles is not new. I admit that it looks highly customizable, but this is by no means a new direction for the gaming industry. Don't fix what isn't broken unless if you're working on Banjo Threeie and the spinoff at the same time. (For those of you claiming that this is still largely platformer, I want you to rewatch those videos. Looked like there were 3 scenes in which very basic grabbing manuevers were used to pick up car parts and notes. Not even actual moves.)
Get over your beloved banjo of old, after reading the artical the gameplay sounds very promising and fresh. Racer/Platformer hybrid sounds cool. People have been doing speed runs for years, and this sounds like the next level of that.
I kind of agree with CupCake here.....I mean, everyone wants change, but this is the wrong direction (imo), more of the same with some new abilities would of honestly made me happier when reading this. ---After watching the interview, I still have hope that this could still have much platforming parts, and just main objectives that involve vehicles
I am sooo disappointed to read this preview summary. I had hoped for a fun, intelligent, creative platform adventure, similar to the previous N64 adventures. What is described here sounds like an elaborate racing game (? using the Viva Pinata racing gameprogramming base?!?). Oh dear, I am gutted, sad and depressed. And I am sooo in love with Banjo.
My guess is that it will be far shorter than Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie. So many games this gen are so short. Also, this game doesn't look all that great...
This game looks good. The 360 needs more kid-like platformer games. And to the people complaining, shut up cause you know your gonna buy it.
Um...hmm. I'm alittle iffy about this now. I mean, I enjoyed Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie A LOT. I thought Grunty's Revenge was acceptable and I've never played Banjo Pilot, but come on. I was really really looking forward to a proper platformer coming out of somebody BESIDES Nintendo, and now we have THIS. I mean...vehicles? What the fudge? I'll still get it if it does have at least 50% gameplay of platforming. But to me, it sounds like a customizable stunt game.
Kind of reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing.. anyone remember that one? Or Donkey Kong 64? At anyrate both games were special in their own right... Give this one a chance maybe it will be special too. My only hope is that they include bots for the multiplayer as they were absent in Donkey Kong 64. You know for...practice purposes...
I am so disappointed of how the game is turning out its not even called banjo-threeie so is this game not even ganna be a TRUE sequel or some thing all those screen shots I saw was banjo in vechiles I dont want a Ratchet and clank game I want a true sequel to the game I came to love playing when i was still just a little kid I hope Rare wakes up and relizes they should stick to what they did with the frist 2 games and dumps this nuts and bolts garbage and decide to make a Banjo-threeie game instead.
I feel relived now. This would've been the single reason that I bought a 360, but now that it's not a "complete" Banjo game, I'm more pleased with my new PS3!
:( I want Banjo 3! Not another crappy pilot one again. Banjo Kazooie and Tooie will still be among some of my favorite games ever, while Rare won't be expecting $60 from me this November. Extremely disappointed, I was waiting for YEARS for something like Banjo 3 to happen, but Rare has done it yet again with a disappointment. Why did Rare have to change once they joined MS?
I expected something like this to happen. I never got my hopes up for the game because Rare is not the same company they once were. There is a reason why Nintendo dumped their stock and pretty much handed the company to Microsoft and with each new Rare developed game the public realizes why.
Argh I'm so disappointed, I was really looking forward to this next-gen installment of Banjo Kazooie. This just sounds like the worst part of Kingdom Hearts - building a stupid Gummi Ship, but as an entire game : (
DEAR Banjo Fans. Let's move this over to www.RAREWARE.com Let's see if we can't wake a couple CEO's up over there. Remember when PS3 was going to have the crazy looking boomerang controller? Enough people complained and that problem got solved. Cross your fingers, go to www.RAREWARE.com and start speaking your minds. Let's get back our Banjo series! One of, if not, the best platformer series.
well it looks crap its not what i was expecting i hope thers still a decent amount of platforming in there. i was looking forward to some good old banjo action i will have to wait and see how this one turns out not sure about it at all
I'll rent it and try it, and im impressed with the graphical upgrade, but hte gameplay is now... too different from the original. THere is no way to say if this oen will be good or bad, probably just another run of the mill waste of tiem platformer, which is too bad because the old ones were quite fun in their time.
Looks great, the vehicles will add alot of new innovative platforming and puzzle elements. Sounds very fun. Can't wait to see what puzzles rare will cook up using the vehicles. Vehicles will be a main focus of the game, thats not a bad thing. Get over it, rare knows what they are doing. The vehicles will add a lot of new stuff to the game. I for one am definately not dissapointed, and I'm looking foward to how this game turns out. Its a shame though that everyone just assumes the changes will be bad, its even worse that people can't read and think its a "racer" or something. The vehicles are used for platforming and solving puzzles. Sounds very unique and interesting to me.
What a total load of rubbish. The old banjo games where pure class this 1 just stinks. Why spoil a good thing and put daft vehicles in it i could not be bothered to waste my time. With games comeing out of rare like this its days are numbered. The head designer wants sacking.
Wow Rare does it again take one of the most anticipated games and dissappoint. Microsoft got ripped off. Kameo's the best thing that's came from Rare since it came to Microsoft. Viva Pinata was addicting but to sim like. Everything else has disappointed. I've been looking forward to the new Banjo-Kazooie and now I could care less thanks Rare.
There are some people saying the vehicle building thing will only be something new included in the game, and that the game will have a lot of its traditional platforming. If that's the case, then how come 99% of the game's footage we've seen (photos, videos) is vehicle-related???? I watched a video of the game being played, and man... it made me so angry. Banjo was always inside some ridiculous vehicle. There were just 2 or 3 scenes in which he was actually walking! The question that comes to my head is: is this a true Banjo game, or is it some odd spin-off? Because if it's a spin-off, it's definitely not what we Banjo fans want. We didn't wait 8 years for some spin-off!! It kinda reminds me of the Crash series spin-off "Crash Tag Team Racing". A racing game with some other silly things to do on foot. If this game is anything like CTTG, I will be very very disappointed. I have no words to describe how disappointed I was with CTTG. And I'm not happy about what I heard about this B-K game. Anyway, I'll still follow the game's development and news (hoping that my early sadness is nonsense).
now im glad i sold my 360. i was hesitant because of banjo and alan wake, but now that i saw this, im glad i did. the platformer is a dying genre which is sad. everything has to be gta cloned or shooter this and that. look at jak 3. thank god for the new pitfall coming out and for lost winds on wii. now only if they make a new maximo!!
Yeah...i'm disappointed...the original bk deserves a more suitable reincarnation then this. Why didn't Rare make a true next-gen platformer as a real tribute to their own franchise? Looks like they were just lazy.
I'm looking foward to trying it out. I loved the first one. The second one came a bit late in the N64's life cycle to get me excited... I'm skeptical as well of the vehical emphasis, but I'll reserve judgement until I've tried it myself...
HUGELY DISAPPOINTED. The ONLY transportation Banjo needs is Kazooie's ultra fit wings. NOW we're stuck with some 2nd rate racer that would have ZERO chance of success if it were'nt riding on the back of the Banjo-Kazooie name. STRAIGHT CRAP! This absolutely sucks. So everyone, remember the first teaser trailer? RARE made us think it was Banjo 3 for the past 2 years. Now we are slapped square in the face with what they should just call Banjo-Pilot 2. This sucks. Absolutely sucks. HEY RARE, you ever hear of Mario Galaxy? Yeah, that is called nexgen platforming. That's what the new Banjo game should be. I'm not usually one to count chickens before they hatch, but this game is going to pale in to comparison to anything RARE could have done if they stuck to a true platformer. STUPID. Absolutely horribly stupid. What happened? Why did it take this long to make a friggin racer? For one, I am extremely upset. RARE, GIVE US BANJO-THREEIE! RARE, look at the numbers: Banjo-Kazooie Gamespot Score - 9.5 Banjo-Tooie Gamespot Score - 9.6 Banjo-Pilot (a not well known Banjo game) Gamespot Score - 7.2 Ok, are you ready RARE? Here's my prediction of the future. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (RARE should just call it Banjo-Pilot 2) Gamespot Score? - 7.5 Now here's what a majority of gamers wanted. Banjo-Threeie Gamespot Score - 9.5 This is how you can tell the brothers who formed RARE left the company. Obviously they wanted nothing to do with the way things are going. Sucks they couldn't have taken Banjo with them.

For Rare to go out of their way yesterday to say that it WASN'T a racing game, it's highly disappointing to find out that the game will be focusing on racing as its main draw. Why would you want to do this? Just stick to 100% platforming. This is bad news, in my opinion. It could be a good game, yes, but not the kind of game that we've been expecting.
