It 's like a dream come true! I can not wait to come out to the cinema film Rampage!!! it is true that there will be a new version of the game for Xbox360??!? FANTASTIC !!!
Hollywood Reporter says New Line Cinema is making headway on a film adaptation for Midway's arcade monster game.
Game-to-film adaptations are nothing new, but the space has been heating up in recent years with deals made for franchises such as Asteroids, Assassin's Creed, Dead Island, and more. Now another title can be added to the quickly growing list of games with movies in the works.
The Hollywood Reporter has word that the 1986 city-destroying monster game Rampage is being developed into a movie for New Line Cinema. John Rickard, producer on films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination, is said to be on board and currently searching out writers to develop the story.
The report suggests that the film will be created "in the vein and tone of Ghostbusters and Independence Day." The Rampage license is currently owned by New Line sister company Warner Bros., which acquired Midway Games in 2009.
Rampage originally hit arcades in 1986 and put players in the role of various monsters tasked with destroying onscreen buildings and terrorizing cities within a given amount of time. The most recent original game to carry the Rampage name was 2006's Rampage: Total Destruction on the Wii, PlayStation 2, and GameCube.
Just keep it in line with the fantastically and riveting story that is Rampage. I will not accept any deviation from that almost shakesperion masterpiece (sarcasm)
I think this movie has been made twice before and it's called Godzilla '98 & Cloverfield and even both those movies were a crock of s**t, I love the Rampage franchise but I don't expect much from this one except for a waste of time, Everyone's money and a box office bomb in theaters.
No plot or even any human characters means they can make ANY movie with a monster that smashes buildings and be 'true to the source material.' And they get to have a few extra sales because of X-Gens looking for a little nostalgia.
Why would they make this game into a movie, and how is there even a market for it? New Line Cinema (or whoever is in charge of this garbage), quit wasting gamer's, and everybody else's, time. Most importantly, don't waste your own time. Make something actually worthwhile.
How do you make a movie out of this game? If they do some how make it a movie I say make it a straight to dvd release, but thats just me.
No story? Sounds like a job for Michael Bay. Won't even have to hire writers. 2.5 hours of c.g. monsters smashing cities. Damn, and I'd probably go see it.
This movie should be pretty craptacular. Make room in the DVD bargain bin for another instantly forgettable 'movie'.
Wow, I wish Hollywood would stop making game films that suck. I mean, really, are the writers that bad that they can't create original scripts? It seems like too many movies are being remade and too many games are being adapted to film. Next thing you know there will be a Pong film.
Seriously? What is wrong with Hollywood? Are the rights to better material just already taken or what? What's next Missile Command, Centipede, Space Invaders... Wait forget about that last one. I think they've already done that one a few hundred times.
Coming this December on Sy-Fy, 3 Monsters wage war on the Human race and our only hope for survival is to get them fighting each other. Sy-Fy original movie Rampage, only on Sy-Fy Channel. Fewer description is advice.
A movie based on a game (with ZERO story) based loosely on a movie genre (Kaiju). Should be as horrible as every other game based movie using the same formula. Rampage = "Let's play Godzilla" Mortal Kombat = "Let's play Enter the Dragon" Left 4 Dead = "Let's play Night of the Living Dead" etc etc etc Trying to reverse the formula when the "source material" (the video games) is little more than the ripped of surface elements of a genre minus the story will never yield quality storytelling or a good movie.
This is ridiculous. I can't even fathom how you'd make a movie out of this. The game literally had no plot whatsoever.
You know I could kind of see this working if they make it into a parody movie, granted those usually suck, but like FSOTP said it's better than them ruining a good series by turning it into the standard Hollywood shlock.
This will 100% be the dumbest movie ever created. Rampage was based off King Kong. So why not just do a King Kong movie instead.? Making a movie of a plot-less game is just looking to loose money.
You guys really want hollywood to take a game with an actual great story line and ruin it? This is a perfect choice for someone with vision. You can create your own story line if you are the screen writer. I know i wouldn't want a great story line like assassin's creed metal gear and the countless other's being given the boring hollywood clone scripts.
I LOVE the game, but I KNOW it would not make a good movie. King Kong has already been done (recently), I really hope they don't try to make this movie!
Why do they decide to do movies from all of the wrong games? How do you make a movie out of Rampage, that's just silly.
dubbya tee eff are they thinking. I understand trying to milk money from anything you can, but like everyone else is saying, pick something with more substance, Even the most passive sedentary money cow has to be thinking wtf at this.
waste of money and time, seems like Hollywood directors and producers don't understand what makes games attractive. its not the brand (it helps but not enough) , and alot of the time its not the story, its the gameplay , with presentation and story coming 2nd. a film lacks gameplay, so those brands lose any sort of credibility. on top of that , the plots in the movies tend to suck , which just amplifies the feeling of "lets make a cheap movie to sucker in gamers". besides, of all games to pick for a film adaptation ,they had to pick one with nearly no story at all , why not pick games with a more beefy story which can actually be used in a movie?
I seriously doubt there are NO screenwriters handing in better ideas than this garbage. The question is what the hell Hollywood is doing with those screenwriters.
Gee... Can't imagine this going wrong. I was fond of Rampage as a kid. But even back then I found it repetative. The best part of the game were the cool giant monster you got to play as. Going for a Ghostbusters-esque tone does sound like a good place to start for the movie, but I'd say they need to go further. Go full on 'silly fun' mode, with a focus on the monsters. Let me repeat that... FOCUS ON THE MONSTERS! I don't care about what problemed human teenager gets dragged along for the ride and has to rescue his would-be girlfriend! In fact, remove the teenager and his girlfriend from the script entirely. Just... FOCUS... on the monsters!
I would rather see a Rampage game in the tone of RTD's opening movie (which kinda reminds me of Monsters vs. Aliens) or some such, y'know? something that fits the Wario-esque toilet humor of the games, not Independance day (good watch though)
Monster Movie with a proper budget? yes please. Endless camera shaking from a complete retards perspective, gtfo.
I rather they made bioshock moive and AC moive. Why they want to make a movie Rampage i just cant belive already makeing flim even midway doent exitst anymore who made the classic game.
Rampage game = Awesome Rampage movie= Pile of crap The film has already been made, it's called Godzilla!!
The only feeling I have about this is "why?" I know there's a fare share of people (myself included) that enjoyed the original rampage games. However, I don't really see the name being big enough for the movie to be anywhere near a success. I'm sure they are trying to ride off of nostalgia but is there really enough of that for the Rampage series?
There's already a movie in the makes about giant monsters that invade earth, are driven underground, and then the people build giant robots to fight the monsters. It's called 'Monsterpocolypse'
All I can say is "o.0" However,if they can make it serious enough to earn the success of movies like Godzilla and Cloverfield, and if we can have Will Smith in it like Independence Day,we just might have a winner. Then again, maybe they want to make it sort of a mockery,a humorous movie. In the end,I have no idea what to think.
Soooo.. They are gonna make a movie about large escaped monsters riding on planes around the world when they eat a flag to go destroy buildings and eat people in each country? WHY did they stop making MST3k?!?
Really, how many people besides those of us who actually went to arcades when arcades existed know of or remember Rampage? This is a terrible idea, and chances are it's going to have /nothing/ to do with the video games.
Rampage for the Wii was a good game. Took me forever to figure out the controls for it for some odd reason. Reminded me alot of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters: MELEE
It's either going to be ridiculously awesome or horrendously awful. There won't be any grey area here.
A better choice than many others for a movie adaptation (considering the obvious homage to kaiju flicks), but since like 90% of these stupid "movie coming" articles amount to nothing I doubt it'll ever release. Remember when there was supposed to be a Metroid movie? How about Pac-Man? Halo? All announced, none released.
