What's with Ellen Page being used for games lately? She's amazing I think, but why just Ellen Page? I want to marry her.. Is she just a huge fan of games?
David Cage says upcoming PS4 game "one of the strongest concepts" the studio has ever had.
Quantic Dream founder David Cage has confirmed to GameSpot that work on its next-gen PlayStation 4 title is already well underway.
The French studio's next game, Beyond: Two Souls, is out this October.
Quantic Dream's PS4 game will retain the studio's emphasis on narrative, but the developer isn't currently talking about what else to expect. But Cage does say the new game is "incredibly exciting, it's one of the strongest concepts we've had at Quantic Dream and we're really excited about it."
Quantic Dream has enjoyed a bit of a head start when it comes to PS4 development, having partially developed Beyond: Two Souls' engine on Sony's next-gen console.
"Because of our relationship with Sony we had access to development kits on PlayStation 4 very early on," said Cage, "we started developing [Beyond's] engine on PlayStation 4 with crazy features that were usually reserved to CG films. We were implementing them on PlayStation 4 thinking that it would already be a challenge, which it was, but at the same time we realised that some of these features could be implemented on PlayStation 3."
Speaking of the tech demo unveiled during the announcement of the PlayStation 4, Cage said "it's the engine of the next game. It's the technology. It's not a character from the next game but it is the technology we're going to use."
Last month Cage said he's already got his next three games in mind. "It's great because I have more ideas than I can develop," said Cage at the time.
This week Quantic Dream has also revealed more about Beyond: Two Souls, detailing plenty of information about the upcoming supernatural thriller. GameSpot has examined the latest footage.
Beyond: Two Souls is due to be released for PlayStation 3 on October 8.
I'm so excited to dive into Beyond...I am frustrated about the lack of DLC for heavy rain one eps doesn't cut it.
I don't see why people hate on this particular game. It seems amazing to me!
I personally hate open world games, as I get lost and bored wondering what the heck to do.
I much prefer a linear game, and this is the next step up. Its still enables you lots of control whilst facing a story
Atleast its not another shooter, where older on lookers would assume video games were all about ''violence'' that teaches kids how to shoot up schools
@megaspiderweb09 Yah. These games teach us important stuff, like how to let our kids get hit by cars or how to remove a finger to save someone you love. NEED MORE OF THIS!
im hoping that these games are on the other side of heavy rain. don't get me wrong, i liked the game, but you don't want to be known as the movie maker that makes games you know
This is not news. The game's called Singularity and I HOPE it will be based on the Karra demo we saw.
AND NOW THAT THE PS4 IS A FRIGGIN PC THERE"S NO EXCUSE FOR DUMBASS PS4 EXCLUSIVES OK SONY!
OK SONY!?!!??! OK!??!?!!?!
@polishfish They wish they were a PC. "More like a PC", yes. A low end computer, also yes. Especially by the time it comes out. The computer I bought last year is already twice as powerful. Soon PC will be using Directx 12 and leaving "next gen" even further behind.
I like that Beyond seems to have more gameplay elements than Heavy Rain. More like Indigo Prophecy. Now if only Cage could innovate gameplay as much as he did in Omikron then it would be a great day.
@Setho10 i had the dreamcast version of omikron and i didnt really like it, i thought it was pretty overrated.
Working on a launch game for Playstation 4? The upcoming launch could use a strong concept of a game. David Cage seems confident.
Although he can be incredibly pretentious, he is trying something different and pushing the limits of what he can do. However, it's one thing to be creative and innovative but it nearly always comes down to the bottom line.
An announcement that an exciting game will be made for the PS4 is often followed by the same company making a separate statement that it will NOT be planned for the Wii-U. Miyamoto-san, go work for Sony!
Every time someone talks to Cage, I have to resist the urge to post "Jason!" in the comments. I really hope Beyond: Two Souls helps me move on, lol
This will be insane in a good way! I really hope that PS4 will win and its already in the works to come out soon and it will be my present for Christmas
When I was a kid I would get a magizine once a month. Nintendo Power in the mail, maybe buy and EGM and that was my chunk of Video gaming Information. Information that was solid and gave me ideas of what I could expect from the future of gaming. Now as I visit this site I get information that Developers are making games for the new systems - of course they are. I get info about new games looking better than old - of course they are. I get info about crap that is so obvious that it's not news at all. The opposite of most things on this site would be news, but what I get is articles telling me what everybod already knows. If you told me Quantic dream was making a game for SNES I would be shocked and interested. Telling me that current developers are making games for upcoming platforms is common sense. Sorry for the rant but I'm getting sick of these little Twitter length articles from Eddie/Martin telling me something that everybody knows.
@TTDog How does one company making a game have anything to do with consideration for buying a console? That's like saying I won't get a new phone because this one person I don't like made an app.
@Hey_Jay Simple... I can't satnd Quantic's games... and if they aren't on a console I don't have to put up with drivel about how good the game is when all it really is is a collection of QTE's disguised as a game.
The first game they threw out was hideously depressing... I want to play games for fun, not to be brought down by a bitter/failed hollywood wannabe.
@Hey_Jay And as far as I can see you're a halfwit... everyone's a winner.
@TTDog Congratulations, I'm convinced. You're definitely a troll.
@cf_Kage Chances of it being called that... none, chances of me buying one if they concentrate on Kinect... pretty much the same.
What part of "it's all about what is available game wise" was confusing for you?
@TTDog Enjoy the Xbox 720 TTDog. I wish you well
@Hey_Jay: Because its exclusive titles that sell a console, they're the big selling point which is why Sony trotted out Killzone at the PS4 event... exclusives get rammed down your throat from Sony and the rabid fanboys as to why you should buy the console... in the same way this can put people off just as much if they can't stand those games.
Not too hard to understand surely?
Now I've jumped from console to console for generations, it's all about what is available games wise... and if depressing wannabe movie nonsense like this is being used to promote a new console then I'll steer clear, the same as if Microsoft over emphasize Kinect for their next machine.
It's about hitting a balance as well, every machine will end up with tripe you don't want but that is offset by the good stuff you do... so far there is more against the PS4 than there is for it in my eyes... and this news isn't helping matters... of course if we had any idea what the PS4 even looked like that might help its cause.
@TTDog @Hey_Jay Again, it makes absolutely no sense. You're basically putting up with them, right now, and you don't have to own a console for that. How is you owning a console making you more exposed to something you don't like? I'm starting to think the other user was right and that you are a troll, because there is no legitimacy to your argument whatsoever. You don't like certain games? Then don't play them. That's the real simplicity. I don't like Call of Duty games, so guess how I am able to not put up with them? I don't play them, and I still get to enjoy current generation consoles. Wow! Magic!
Unless that concept calls for actually playing the game instead of watching an interactive movie like all his other "games" I'll pass.
@JayQproductions Omikrom was definitely a game you played. It was actually hugely ambitious from a gameplay perspective as well as a story perspective. And Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit had some sequences that were definitely gameplay. Really only Heavy Rain was an interactive movie. And honestly I feel like it was the worst game he made, even from a narrative standpoint.
@JayQproductions Here we go...People who think they have the final say on what a "game" is.
