Annual Dallas id expo scheduled for late summer; North America's largest LAN party, latest Bethesda games to be on hand.
This morning, Bethesda Softworks announced the dates for its sister studio id Software's annual convention, QuakeCon. The confab, which is host to North America's largest BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN party, will run from August 4 to 7. It is free to the public and sees thousands of gamers flock to Dallas' Hilton Anatole Hotel each year.
Details on this year's event are thin, other than the fact that Bethesda will be on hand to "offer the first chance anywhere for gamers to get their hands on upcoming titles." Though not mentioned by name, a likely suspect is the studio's next game, the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is set to ship for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on November 11. Also likely to appear is id's PC, PS3, and 360 postapocalyptic racing-shooting game Rage, which is due out September 13.
QuakeCon organizers promised both panel discussions and unidentified "announcements" at this year's event. Last year, some sort of Doom 4 reveal was expected at id technical director John Carmack's keynote address. Instead, it focused on Rage for the iPhone. Last year's panels included a discussion about creating blockbuster franchises with ousted Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West and a chat between Ultima creator Richard Garriott and Carmack on space flight.
@Elite39 I don't know how to respond to your comment due to the horrible lack of proper English. I honestly can't understand that last half of it. Since I can talk, I'm not retarded. Either way, you said they couldn't nix it now they they have an iPhone version and now that Bethesda is controlling the production it will fail. Both statements have no backing or logic in place and that is why I called you out. I was just proving a point with logic and at the same time proving you wrong.
@Tygraph Looks like you're the one who's more retarded than me. And drop the pathetic emoticons, they don't provoke me like they do to others. Rage is being developed by id Software, well at least it was when it started. Ahh, just though that now there's a version of the game already released they won't change the final that much unless the iPhone version is a quickly-made version of the game.
@Elite39 Umm, are you retarded? I really hope there was sarcasm in that. Do you have any idea where this project is in development and the fact that Bethesda is a top tier developer and producer? AND that having an iPhone version does not secure any sort of title regardless. That is the part that made me hope for sarcasm. Otherwise, have a good day :)
hopefully Doom 4 isnt the same from Doom 3 : Surprise! Fight! get back to waht made Doom great, not some 'Scare Fest'.
Really lost interest with ID after Doom 3, Rage is in the same boat for me as Duke Nukem Forever, pretty much dinosaurs IMHO. They might have been cool when they first showed us their teaser trailers years ago, but so much has changed and people's taste change. Case in fact Doom 3 suffered from that same syndrome. It took so long to come out that by the time it did, people have moved on and the sales figures reflect that.
@s4dn3s5 I actually like Rage, but now that Bethesda owns it and that they changed the release date, they'll probably nix it.
@Drakkengoth Well, I wouldn't be judging yet, for all we know it could be complete crap, but id Software doesn't usually let me down. The Duke Nukem Forever trailer didn't look very good, in fact it looked bad, earlier trailers looked very good though.
@D1zzyCriminal Yeah, but Quake 1 never really had a storyline. It was going to be an adventure medieval RPG with a storyline, but they were all stuffed physically and mentally when they created the engine, it took so much work just for the engine, then John Romero made it a Doom styled game, that's why he left. So I'd rather see this Quake that we never saw.
Obviously we will see lots of Rage, Doom 4 should have some light shed on it. I really hope they metion something about a new Quake game, I would love a sequel to the original Quake. I will go to QuakeCon one day, It one of those things I just have to do. Even though I live in the UK.
dont delay rage anymore, been waiting for that game for ages. Same with Doom 4, damn i want that game
Is it true? Duke Nukem Forever is coming soon? QuakeCon with news on Elder Scrolls V, Rage, and the long...long awaited Doom 4? WHAT'S NEXT! Valve FINALLY giving news of Half Life 3 or Half Life 2 Episode 3!
I will NOT miss this year. Epic SFIV, SC2, and of course, Quake tournaments! And of course, all the info about new releases... gonna be hawt.
if you RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN, beware! for certain DOOM lies within, do you dare? this is a QUAKE, your worst nightmare do not let RAGE consume you, you must care! ID wish you fortune, but are you aware?
Yea, thank goodness for the European market where the PS3 far exceeds XBox in market share, so now we get so many more titles coming to the platform than we did at first.
I will be there as always, at least one day. The only thing that sucks is the only restaurant in the place charges 20 bucks for a hamburger...ouch.
