Sony taking service offline from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pacific on November 17; new game sharing limits to be in place when PSN comes back online.
The PlayStation Network is taking the day off tomorrow. In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony gave gamers a heads up that the PSN would be taken offline for "routine scheduled maintenance."
The downtime is scheduled to begin November 17 at 8 a.m. Pacific and last until 10 p.m. While some users "may be able to play online" during the maintenance, Sony has said that PlayStation 3 and PSP owners will not be able to log into the PSN website, access the PlayStation Store, or register new accounts.
Sony is using the maintenance time to introduce new game sharing restrictions. When the service is restored, users will only be able to download new game content purchased from the PlayStation Store to a maximum of two PlayStation 3 systems or two PSPs. Currently, a single user account can download games on up to five different systems. Once users hit the limit of systems, they will need to deactivate their profile on an existing system before activating it for use on another machine.
All game content purchased before tomorrow's downtime will only be subject to the previous five-system limit. Additionally, Sony plans to establish a website where customers can manage their PSN accounts and deactivate specific devices attached to their account. Currently, systems need to be deactivated through the device itself or by calling Sony's consumer services department.
The aforementioned restrictions apply only to game content. Video content purchased through the PSN can currently be moved to a single PS3 and up to three PSPs, and those limits will remain in place after the PSN service is restored.
@BigAl519 Not whining, just making a statement. Thank you for proving me right but next time push the report button a little harder...saddo.
I dont understand why people are complaining, It was a PSN ``store`` maintenance so you couldnt buy stuff but playing online was available. I played all day and without any issues but I was wondering why the PSN store maintenance took so long.I'm happy to know that it was scheduled and not a scary bug
When I saw the message, "The PlayStation Network is currently under maintenance", I immediately thought, "Oh no, I hope it's not the April-May outage all over again."
@killered3 get your facts straight before you spread your fanboy hatred elsewhere. You can download whatever you want from XBL delete it and redownload it to your hearts content and only pay once.
Are people really complaining of less than 24 hours of downtime? Unbelievable. I myself don't have a PS3, I play Xbox and even though I pay for my membership I don't complain when they perform necessarily maintenance.
Wow, jorgeabk. Everybody knows that you're probably a bigger virgin than anyone else. The fact that you're in this site says enough. Like us, you have NO LIFE and NOTHING BETTER TO DO. But that's aside from the point, Xbox Live SUCKS and rips you off with downloads and makes you pay for things that should be free. Even now I'd still take Sony over Xbox Live any day of the week! People who sell their PS3's just for this are idiots. Xbox Live puts your personal info at risk EVERYDAY. Don't believe me, look for websites that tell you all about hacking through Live accounts. There are more than you can count! That and every time you buy a download, you can only download once so if you delete it by accident or something goes wrong-that's it for your cash! When you buy a download from the PSN, you can redownload as many times as you want. This happens all the time, no biggie. :P
@fadersdream hey buddy relax, maybe u should go out and get a non-virgin pina colada to blow out some steam......listen, n listen well......it's just a video GAME, there is more things to do in life, like go get ur pina colada.......lmao
@Robotman170 I would rather have no online at all then pay for xbl I'm going to pay for something that should be free oh wait it is free every where else
I find it hard to believe that people are taking this so hard. It's a routine maintenance to update PSN people....it's not like anything is wrong with PSN. F off and play something like Uncharted or Infamous 2, or even some good ole local MP, like Super Street Fighter 4 or NHL 12. Stop whining. .....and to all the xbots, live goes down too, and you pay for it, so shut it!
You know, maintenance and updates are fine, but I think they could have implemented them in a more "off peak" time.
@G_gglypuff just type down (PSN iz teh ZUX it haz ben H4xord befoh nd naw it is 0ff) and you will get yourself a whole board of discussion which is better XBL or PSN.
@jorgeabk no it doesn't it stands for Playstation Network. Jeeze some people! I can't understand the context of your comment. Is it in defense of PSN or PC? Either way I have more issues with PC fanboys haunting console forums, but I am also mad at my PS3 because each time I try and play it I spend more time downloading then playing. Either way I find your comment pointlessly amusing. So, thanks for that. So to all those who say it won't effect anyone... I'm pretty sure there will be quite a few downloads and a new user agreement.
It started a bit before 8AM Pacific time. About two hours before that. I was so close to the end of an online game of Monopoly when I was disconnected from the media server. :x I was losing, though.
OMG WHAT AM I GOING TO DO THE PSN IS GOING TO BE DOWN FOR A WHOLE DAY! AM WRITING A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF PSN UNACCEPTABLE WHO TOLD THEM THEY COULD TAKE A DAY OFF!! :D
@mischiefmeerkat Skyrim is my game to play right now (on PC). People to settle down and finish Demon's Souls or Dead Space. There are great single player games out there and besides 98% of these people that whine dont have real life friends so maybe that is why....
@Thug2Wasteland I remember a time when games weren't always about multiplayer, this gives us a time to go back and play the singleplayer games we don't play anymmore...
Ok ok it's not a big deal right? Well I haven't been logged on in a while(weeks) so wouldn't you figure I want to go on today and let my kids play some little big planet since they have the day off. No dice. lol. Regardless PS3 is a little out of control with all these updates and downtime and yada yada. I consider myself a serious gamer(since Atari 2600) and when I game it's on the XBOX 360 partially because of how seamless the online experience is. Yes I know PS3 is free but Playstation Plus still doesn't hold a candle to XBOX Live. IMHO.
You can post that this doesn't affect you all you want right up until it actually does or Sony does something else that does affect you. Any time companies start doing stuff like this it is never good for the end user. That's kind of the point, to make Sony more money by making you spend more to get something you otherwise would have had access to with your initial purchase as things stand right now. Just wait. One of these days they'll just start selling you half of a game for $60 then hit you with a message at the end that says: "If you like what you've been playing and would like to have more then download episode 2 for another $60." I swear they are trying to turn consoles into arcade machines. Please deposit $0.25 per play.
Dosen't bother me alot, I still got Assassins Creed and Sonic Generations to satisfy me for a while anyways. Hey guys who play onlne often...welcome to old school!
@ecw1983 lol whats even funnier is guys like you who come on just to whine about the whiny kids. Only slightly hypocritical but hey, your only here around once a month now, maybe you could make it less often and we could be rid of another cry baby!
i heard that the next xbox is going to have DUAL LAYERED RROD , Disc tray, PS1 Power Cord... what else im missing? oh yeah.. Pay More For Free Stuff motto
Still think this new restriction is a horrible thing for gamers. Especially the limit applying to handhelds. Sony is going back to the poor business decisions that caused them to lose their dominance in the market. You can only frustrate people so much before there is a backlash.
great one from sony , i would love to deactivate some systems using a web browser because my account got stolen once and i guess that the thief has shared many games using my account.
fanboys= poor ppl who cant afford both consoles ppl who own both consoles= money wasters so whats right? PC Gaming! the way its meant to be played
bit of a shame that they feel the need to restrict like that but won't affect me personally I don't expect! Can't believe all the riduclulous fanboy comments, it's pathetic!
Oh Noez! PSN will be down for an entire day...how am I going to play Skyrim without an internet connection!?...wait.
Why is it so hard for the PSN to stay online. If it is not hacked, then they shut it down themselves. When will the PS3 gamer be able to play online without problems. I mean come on, get it right already.
hmm sounds fine to me ps xbox fanboys im on gamespot useing my ps3 can the 360 do that??? nopee not a fanboy i own both of em just hate fanboys
