Source says two models of new platform launching this holiday season in US; gamers will be able to control system with smartphone.
The PlayStation 4 will launch in the United States this November starting at $430, a source has told Kotaku. A second model will also be available for $530, this person said, though this is not set in stone. Pricing at this level falls in line with a past report, which suggested the system would sell for $400+ at launch.
Kotaku's source also claimed something that's not yet been heard in the scuttlebutt surrounding the platform. Gamers will be able to control the PS4 remotely through a tablet or smartphone, this person said, adding that players will also be able to chat with friends and buy games through their devices.
In addition, the source said "most" of the PS4's online features will mandate a premium subscription. A name change is also in the works, the person said, claiming PlayStation Plus will be rebranded PlayStation World.
On top of this, the site's source claimed every PS4 unit will ship with a PlayStation Eye and a new spectating feature will allow gamers to watch friends play games from their dashboard regardless of whether or not they own the game the other user is playing. One final piece of speculation is that the PS4 will support local network play through the PlayStation Vita.
The tipster also provided a new image of the PS4 controller, the third such image that has surfaced to date.
Sony is expected to announce the PlayStation 4 tomorrow at its 2013 PlayStation Meeting, beginning at 3 p.m. PST/6 p.m. EST. GameSpot and its sister sites will be in attendance at the event, which will also be live-streamed.
PS4 Will Have 4K Resolution
Not really surprised by the price tag, though very smart of Sony to try and keep it under the astronomical price of $600 like its predecessor. The thing that catches my eye is this premium membership, is Sony following Microsofts path? Is there still free to play multiplayer?
I find it amazing that people complain about $430 when consoles such as the 3DO cost $600+ back in 1993. Obviously they failed because of that INSANE pricing; but systems haven't changed much in pricing over the decades. $430 back then should be approximately doubled by now considering prices generally increase 200% over 15 to 20 years (of course this changes depending on whether it's a car or a house) but really... is $430 THAT much!? That's less than a week's pay at minimum wage for someone working full-time... at least here in Canada. I guess you guys in the States have a much lower minimum wage, but still... that isn't much to ask.
@Andrex1212 you're crazy. 1 weeks pay at minimum wage is 360 dollars if you work 40 hours a week at 9 dollars an hour, then minus taxes. not to mention, only a loser spends his entire weeks pay on video game related content. no real person with real expenses has 430 dollars to just drop on a video game system
@bobbo888 @Andrex1212 Unless of course you're a kid who has no expenses and who, lets all remember, is the target audience for video games. Sure there are some games that are obviously geared specifically toward people in their twenties, but not that many. Most games are built to be playable by children 14 years and over at the oldest; and that includes M rated games.
@bobbo888You know you can do this thing called "saving".
I will say it again just in case: "saving".
@Andrex1212 3DO and the NEO GEO didn''t sell well comapred to the TURBO GRAFX 16 and GENESIS and unlike the 16 bit wars we have less options for consoles today you have MICROSOFT, SONY and NINTENDO.
Why havent they shown us the PS4 console on the unveiling? They obviously havent figured that out yet!
I doubt this is gonna be out in Novemeber, but $430 is not a bad deal as long as it's not one of those basic set that only comes with 4GB storage with 3GB update that will force me to buy an extra memory storage for $100.
@digi-demon You know, if it was 1TB I would say it's fair at an expensive price because of how much data it holds, but for a 250GB, It would suck.. but look on the bright side, atleast it (may) not turn out like the first PS3 it was worth $1000 and I was shocked to see it at such a high price like that for a 20 or 40GB
@digi-demon Yeah it should be a cheap 600$ like when the PS3 originally launched right?
@enoslives7 Ouya will not even come close to PS4 in terms of power. Sorry. Ouya is an Android cellphone, in a box, with a controller. Though I am still intrigued by it and will more than likely pick one up when I can.
@enoslives7 lol so you would rather play android games on a big screen and actual true console games
@digi-demon @shadowhunter0 @Eliphs *looks at Sly4* also uncharted golden abyss look almost like the first uncharted game just to give a few examples so it is actually already starting to happen and there have been a few console quality games on the vita
@Eliphs if I want to play games on my tv then I play games on my ps3 I didn't get a vita to be a home console I got it to wait for it to play console like games on the go
@enoslives7 the ouya is a scam like the n gage
@enoslives7 Ouya uses Tegra 3 which is on par with 2009 PC Laptop tech. Averaging GeForce 260 GTX or Radeon 5220.
As stated by Sony it sounds like this new so called Premium Service will not be free ,so bye bye PSN FREE....
@BIOHAZARD450 PS World will indeed mean PSN+ is now premium.
@LindBergh2007 @shadowhunter0 @fredyellowone @BIOHAZARD450
They may have a free and a paid version. Steam doesn't cost money, yet its still make a killing from their store. So lets not count out the free version.
They really should make their own Steam. Accessible from any device. Buy games from anywhere. Chat from anywhere. Manage library of games. Install games from remote etc. And to capitalize on the userbase, you should make this service free.
@LindBergh2007 @fredyellowone @BIOHAZARD450 but the stuff that is free right now will probably remain free also that might actually just become part of ps+ who really knows until they officially announce it
since I don't trust in rumors or stuff that is leaked from an unnamed source I will only trust it when it has officially been announced
@BIOHAZARD450 I'm pretty sure what you get free now will remain free on the ps4
i just hope i can play online for free i have both a xbox 360 and a ps3 i thought the way mircosoft uses its xbox live gold serivce you basicly can not run any apps or play online without xbox live gold but sony i honestly can say i felt did right by me i just hope they dont go the mircosoft route
enjoying paying for online cows....wow what will be your excuse for paying? after critizing MS for their service?
@KBFloYd the MS does deserved to be critized they encourage online subs and bribing developer for exclusive timed dlc....dirty tactics....if your defending that kind of policy there's deff something wrong with you
@KBFloYd lol I'm pretty sure Sony wont charge to play games online they will probably leave it they way that it is now just add more features to it like cross game chat
and why am I not surprise that you are bashing Sony again and the Sony hater dreamfist liked your comment
@KBFloYd If sony allows online play for free and watch netflix etc, and only the extra features such as streaming, and things of that nature it'd be fair. Currently if you want to watch Netflix on Xbox you have to pay for Netflix and pay for Xbox Gold to use your service. You can't even play online without Gold.
So if Sony keeps its current formula and the extras cost then nothing has changed. Now if we have to pay for the new features and the ones we enjoyed for free during the PS3 then yes we can eat crow.
The PS4 better have graphics this good looking:
If it does, it's a day one buy for me!
@LindBergh2007 well.... I don't know about that, but this site said it will have at least 4 to 8 GB of RAM, and at least will be as powerful as the xbox 720:
And on the topic, I also hope that it will have this kind of physics:
@shadowhunter0 @Imperiacommando Man this has been one funny ass string of posts to read. UE3 doesn't run on PS3? What PCP-laced weed is this crackpot smoking? Ever heard of a little game called... Unreal Tournament 3!? It was you know... the game that was originally designed specifically during the development of the Unreal Engine 3 in order to showcase the many features and ease-of-use when developing games for it. And to say it doesn't run well with DX 9 or 10 and only runs well on DX11... man is that ever one wacky post as well. DX10 didn't even exist yet when UE3 was designed... LET ALONE DX11... so how would they design an engine that is only compatible on a DirectX version that was still one entire generation of DirectX away from the current generation. There's so many false claims that this guy is spewing out it's laughable. If he's actually being serious I really feel sorry for his family that they've had to deal with such a dumb kid all these years. I smell a troll though.
@Imperiacommando not me I had a feeling that he was talking a bunch of bs since he called it PS NEAR
@Imperiacommando yeah he is just posting a bunch of bs with a post like that
@LindBergh2007 @PodXCOM can't run UE 3 on ps3 360? Gears of wars, batman arkham, dmc, bulletstorm, and many other bazzilion games is there bro
@PodXCOM UNREAL 3 is easier to use because it only requires at least 2 GBs of RAM but is ulitized on DX11. The claim that Wii U,PS3,360 can do UE3 is false. The engine runs poorly on DX9 and 10. UNREAL 4 again hasn't been licensed by AMD. And besides, AMD has an alternative called " Lens Eye".
@LindBergh2007 @shadowhunter0 @PodXCOM and I just search for PS NEAR on Google and I got nothing about the ps4 all that I got was stuff about the near app on the vita
so yeah I call BS
@Imperiacommando yeah really think he is just making up bs now
@LindBergh2007 @Imperiacommando your so funny that's not even funny anymore, they use gaikai doesn't mean they don't go far on graphical sector
@LindBergh2007 @shadowhunter0 @PodXCOM but you are calling it PS NEAR which is the name of an app on the vita and the prototype name is orbits and this is the first time I have ever heard it called that so I still don't believe you unless you provide a creditable source and just from a website with an unnamed source so pretty much the only way you can prove it to me that that will be the name of it is if you can give the a source were Sony has officially announce that that is what it is going to be called
@Imperiacommando Sony isn't banking on graphics and engines this time around. Their trump card is "Gakai". Sony is more focused on Cloud computing than anything else.
@LindBergh2007 @Imperiacommando and those company are working with sonny, c'mon man it's UE...easy multiplat
@Imperiacommando No. The average is UNREAL 3. So far the only company that's licensed Unreal 4 is Sqaure Enix, other Japanese Arcade companies like SEGA,Capcom,Taito,NamcoBandai will follow suit. UE4 is being licensed exclusively in the Arcade market.
@LindBergh2007 @shadowhunter0 @PodXCOM UE engine is multiplat bro if it doesn't run we'll on ps4 we can get it on PC problem solved, and its gonna be ps4 for sure
@LindBergh2007 @PodXCOM the UE4 is very scalable from every platform based on its predecessor...it's deff coming to next gen console
@Imperiacommando Wrong. It's not available yet and AMD doesn't have the license for it. PS NEAR uses UNREAL 3.
@PodXCOM if my grandpa still alive he l be shocked to see that in videogames....the graphic is brutal but I think ps4 can handle it....nice pict bro
