The Last Guardian? No, no info on that? Final Fantasy Versus XIII? Nope. Nothing?? WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE HARDWARE SO DAMN MUCH PEOPLE. I WANT THE GAMES!!!!!! The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Starhawk. Three PS3 exclusives that I still want to see. I love PS, and I'm a loyal to the Playstation name. However, don't give me a PS4 just yet. I'm good with the PS3 now (I just got one). It's so much better (In MY opinion, this isn't a fact, I'm not a hater, Xbox is okay too, this is just an opinion thing) than 360. I can't wait for these GAMES, rather than PS4. Gimme that in a few years (like 2014 minimum). I want my PS3 still.

if we look at past we'll see that sony never repeted the storage media. eg. ps 1 came with cd, ps2 with dvd and ps3 with blu ray, it would be really interesting to see what will sony offers with ps4

I think we have a min of 2 years before a new Playstation and atleast a year or two until its affordable and or worth buying. I hope they'll keep the same controllers tho so we can atleast save that.As for compatibility, you can see that Sony prefers digital copy since there's alot of PS1 games and PS2 games have started recently and more and more full PS3 games becomes available for downloads.

I cant wait for the product design :D I wonder what Hollywood Blockbuster they'll base the logo on this time?

Well I hope that Zipper is making a true Socom game for the PS4 cause if not its not worth me getting the PS4 on the drop date I will stick with my PS3 till they give Socom back to the community!!!!

Soon we will have to buy a new console every week to be up to date...

P.S. I rate both Polyphony and Naughty Dog will be working on the next-gen consoles as they have a nack for using the PS3's near-full graphics potential. Snoogens..

For the love of potato chips and vinegar, make the damn console backwards compatible you bastards! Then again, now that PS2's out, the new console will most likely see it's better backwards compatibility days...just not for the PS3 *sniff* - meanies...

I'd rather wait until a really hardcore game starts occasionally overheating ps3's before even beginning to ask for a ps4 (in other words, im cheap)

Perhaps Sony is woking on an RFID chip that will make Gamespot editors love it instead of loath it....we can dream.

Well, since it takes a good 10 years to get a GT game out, I got two words for you as far as who the team is thats working on the PS4: Polyphony Digital.

i have a long way to go yet before even considering the ps4, having too much fun on the ps3, its got a good 2-3 years in it yet i'll wager, got to agree with gowthamrkm too, theres a lot of untapped potential in that little (ish) black box :)

yay! mabee they will offer a backwards-compatible exclisive wireless service provider system for tripple their base model!

I hope Sony's next console will have a better online experience (like theyre doing with the PS Vita) and please Sony, don't give the US/JP everything while Europeans have to wait months for games and services (or not at all)

Too early for PS4. Maybe in 2013 or 2014 Nov launch. That would be ideal.

Actually when PS3 come out 2006 from Sony had said that they will make games for PS2 till 2010 that means that they will released PS4 maybe 2013 or 14

@ Thuganomic05 they always bring out a new console before ending the last 1... it would be rather stupid of them to stop making games for a console before bring another out! i tought this was very common sence, guess not.

ps4 will likely be announced in 2013 and released in 2014. releasing a new system doesn't mean they will drop support for the old one.

Actually i don think even the current console has juiced its full potential yet! ps4 so soon? atleast they should see to it that their software reaches every cross platform developers.

Planning to get a PS3 next month, so hopefully the PS3 wont be released until late 2013 or early 2014 would be a good idea. It would be considered 7-8 years of life so far for the PS3 by that time though, but I'm pretty sure it can survive another 2-3 years just like the PS2 did.

With a 10 year life span, 2013 release would be about right. Can't wait to see what the next gen consoles have in store!

Good to know... I have no intention of getting a new system yet though. I'd like to use my PS3 some more before anything new comes to the market.

Sony and MS are smart to work for next gen consoles and games too bad Nintendo not like them

@muzza93 MS did not hold Sony back...Sony over reached. Everything + the kitchen sink meant huge production costs. Even Stringer has sais the PS3 will not break even because of the initial losses. Fact is when you lose money on every unit sold for so long...it's not good business. And the PS3 was hardly cheap when it launched.

well its not the first time that sony hype its products or even lie to its costumers (remember killzone 2 , heavy rain and move) , sony is nothing but a big talker and to many companies joined xbox360 this gen , i will just wait for microsoft's announcement

IMO Microsoft is holding Sony back, Microsoft made the 360, it didnt have all the nice features the PS3 did, eg built in wi fi, blu ray, backwards compatibility, SD memory card slots in the front, they did it to cut costs so Sony had to make a less awesome machine to compete, Hope its not the case with the next wave of consoles. Im not starting a fight, i hope both systems go all out in making an awesome console, not a console that cuts cool features out to save money. The features is what make my PS3 my entertainment hub.

it doesn't really matter to me when they release the new consoles. I have both 360 and ps3 so I have no reason to purchase one until completely necessary which won't be for years.

I'm about to buy my PS3 just now. But if PS4 launches in 2013 it will be like when the PS3 launched when the PS2 was still top on the shelves. So there will be a gap between when a console is launched with the previous. Like if the PS4 launches 2013, like they said the PS3 will have a life-span of 10 years so until 2016.

Yes, it is time. Listen, I love games because I'm a gamer and I inspire to a vision of the future where games are going to look like CG quality: near limitless polygons, high quality sound, life-like Ai can only be achieved with the next super gaming system. You might not want it now, but trust me, when you see what artist are able to produce with near limitless hardware, you'll kick yourself for thinking you weren't willing to accept this upgrade. Prepare to be blown, I say, when you see for the 1st time what is to come. I'm a gamer and I support the next wave of super gaming consoles. Bring it!

...and of course, the longer they wait, the less people will feel screwed about their purchase when something newer comes out. This is an individual experience, not based on whether like me you bought the 360 and ps3 at launch, but when each person bought their 360/ps3 and what they paid for it. (here's a hint though, 360/ps3 doesn't cost 100-150 bucks...so they really need to have the systems at that price point for a couple of years first). Many people will be pissed off if they paid 300 bucks and a year later a new system comes out. They need to avoid that.

The best thing to do IS wait. Wait until there is a clear tech gap between what's possible and the 360/ps3. Wait until the developers KNOW how to use it. Wait until the economics of the world have straightened out (as opposed to now when the collapse is only accelerating). If they make a console for 4ktv many people won't be able to afford both, as 4ktv ain't even out yet in a mainstream way. 5. Of course reliability. They must make it work BEFORE shipping it out the door. Sony's did so for the most part, but they have to repeat this, and in fact strive to do even better this time around....because that's what you do. I will attempt to buy whatever console comes out, as I love tech, be they pc's or consoles. But I want a product that actually IS a difference, that actually will have games, actually will work, If they time it right, the real physical economy will be fixed along with a strong Glass-Steagall standard and American credit system so people can actually BUY their system, they'll have a clear tech advantage like dx12 or 12.1 or something so people have a reason to buy on the first account, developers will be able to take advantage of this tech in their games so people have a reason to buy on the second account, and of course they have to make it reliable so the people that buy it won't feel pissed off when it rrod's on them.

3. The power we have in today's consoles are just fine for a few more years, and as others have stated, has a great install base. Developers WILL make more money on 360/ps3 games, and in most cases, most developers will lose money on the newer stuff the first year or so. (if they actually cared to account for it separately, which they won't...but that doesn't mean they'll pour all their resources in...most will just add stuff on top of their 360/ps3 games like better textures, more eye candy, etc. Besides, consoles use tv's, meaning they won't be running at the uber pc definition that the great monitors run, nor eyefinity, thus 1920x1080 is going to be with us for another console generation, unless they wait until a better time into the 2nd half of this decade. 4. Of course the economy. It's only going to get worse (that's a fact..coming from someone who saw THIS and talked about it at bars in 2004-2005....which only started in 2007...but people didn't figure it out until sept 2008)...it's only going to get worse, and the bottom will fall out unless we Glass-Steagall. This must be taken into account by MS/Sony or they are FOOLS. Many people won't want to purchase a system for 600 bucks (or 6 million in bernanke bucks). ...and if you rush to market a console that doesn't have many advantages in times of social and economic strife...well then you have a system that bombs.

Just like I said on xbox's new rumored box, it's going to take a long time, and without Glass-Steagall, the economy is just going to continue to nosedive. They would be best to wait. Why? 1. The tech hasn't reached a generational status. Hey I love my pc, and I like dx11, but to say dx11+better physics+ AA = a new generation is just asinine. PC's ARE better right now, but they haven't reached a generation's difference yet. When the Unreal 4 engine comes out, THEN you'll be talking about something that is CLOSE to being a generational difference. You really need a bit more on top of that like a dx12. 2. Game companies actually have to be able to use this power given to them. People have great PC's, but very few games worthy of them. Developers need to kick it in high gear to use those specs, but right now we're at a time where everything is starting to pull back (it's the economy stupid)

One thing is certain, both Sony and Microsoft have invested far to much time and effort into their online features and marketplaces to let go of their moneycows anytime soon, regardless of any new consoles. So I believe both consoles will be around for yet some time. The ps2 is still popular in some corners of the world, and with online features the ps3 could live even longer imo.
