When are you going to bin off the shitty controller layout Sony!!! It was crap on the PS1 so it'll be crap on the PS4. You may not like to admit it but Microsoft hit the nail on the head with its controller design, Xbox Live and the fact that you can speak to your friends while playing different games!!! Also having several different controller options in your games would encourage me to use my PS3 more, as I use legacy sticks I haven't bought many games for my PS3 as there are no options. If nothing changes with the PS4 I won't be wasting my money!!!
Latest rumor about Sony's next-gen machine says it constantly records most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action, which can be shared online.
The PlayStation 4 rumor floodgates are spilling over. A new report at Edge states the PS4 controller's rumored "Share" button will allow gamers to publish screenshots and video across the Internet. According to sources, the PS4 hardware will constantly record the most recent 15 minutes of gameplay (at no processing cost), which gamers can then edit and share.
As was previously rumored, the sources also suggest that the PS4's new controller--a total redesign--will feature a rear touchpad based on the PS Vita's existing technology. It is said to be similarly responsive.
Concerning launch timing, the PS4 will be released in Japan and in the United States before the holiday season, according to the sources. A European launch will follow in early 2014, these people said, citing "distribution complexities" as a reason for the delay.
A new version and the PlayStation Eye peripheral will also be released with the PS4, the sources said, noting it will be compatible with existing PlayStation Move controllers.
As for the PS4 technical capabilities, the sources said the console will be much more developer-friendly than the PS3, due in part to the system being more PC-like. The console will boast 4GB of RAM (possibly 8GB in a final configuration), the sources said, noting it will be capable of moving data at 176GB per second.
One source reportedly familiar with both the Xbox 720 and PS4 told Edge that Sony's console will be "slightly more powerful" and "very simple to work with," though the differences between the two will be as negligible as between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Sony is expected to announce the PS4 at a New York City event on February 20.
watch this turn out to be more Microbribe misinformation, "OH NO it was NEXTBOX that can share gameplay media on the fly... oh WE HAD IT ALL WRONG, ah shucks"
I actually think the Share feature would be awesome. The PS3 version of Just Cause 2 has a similar thing where you can upload the last 30 seconds of whatever you just did to YouTube almost instantly, and it's pretty cool to be able to go back and watch all your crazy hi-jinks. Also, being able to instantly screenshot whatever you're doing is one of the great things about the Wii U -- it makes going online with both "dude, check this out" comments and "I'm stuck -- what do I do here?" questions a snap.
Honestly, this is the kind of thing that might make me give the PS4 the nod over the 720, though time will tell.
That said, I don't know what's wrong with them for going with the rear touch screen. It looks like a half-assed way of trying to match the Wii U game-pad, but without actually getting serious about it. (Kind of like the Sixaxis was a half-hearted attempt at motion control, just to say they did it, and they could list it on the side of the box.) And it *will* drive the cost of the controller up.
Damn Homer has gain some weight and grey hair since he missed that e3/tgs due to having a kid.
Personally i don't care for the share feature
Funny how Microsoft and Nintendo don't seem to suffer any of these "distribution complexities" when they release new consoles in Europe in the same week as the US/Japanese release.
The rear touchpad (aka the accidental touchpad) for the Vita was one of the worst design decisions ever made. Why would the repeat it on the PS4 controller?
"Latest rumor about Sony's next-gen machine says it constantly records most recent 15 minutes of on-screen action, which can be shared online."
annnd i will disable this 1st. :) sounds like a resource hog.
@retsmot It does then add 'at no processing cost'. I suspect it's built in to the way the Ps4 outputs gfx and sound in such a way that you wouldn't be able to disable it anyway.
GTX 295 >>>> PS4 and X720
@MaximusMatrix the gameing world is waiting for the ps4 and xbox 720 the gaming world could not care any less about your pc rig
@emptycow PCs are not part of that "gaming world" you speak of? Pretty sure there are games on that, too !
@MaximusMatrix You cannot compare the memory bandwidth of NV and AMD GPUs directly, especially not from different architectures/generations. It doesn't work that way. GTX295 is 40nm and HD7000 series (rumored in PS4) is 28nm. The memory bandwidth works entirely differently in terms of efficiency.
The GPU rumored in PS4 is between HD7850 and HD7870 in performance (1.84 Tflops). HD7850 with "only" 154 GB/sec of memory bandwidth is a faster card than a GTX295:

@BestJinjo @MaximusMatrix Arguably more importantly, the Ps4 and 720 are designed to be used from your couch on a big screen TV, rather than at point-blank range with a PC monitor. That means that there's no point pushing out higher than 1080p resolution which cuts down the amount of power required by a considerable degree.
@MaximusMatrix your comment = no one cares go play a xbox 360 port on your pc and shut up
Funny thing is that Microsoft had the same type of idea for the Xbox 360. Except your game play would be broadcast-ed live for people on your friends list to watch.
Sony could continue using the Cell in the PS4, after all, the X720 will also be difficult to schedule because the X720 processor will have 8 cores parallel
Cell with 8 cores and 128 SPUS, 6 Gigas XBR and NVidia GTX690 destroy the X720.
Cell with 8 cores and 128 SPUS, 6 Gigas XBR and NVidia GTX690= moving data at 600GB per second.
@MaximusMatrix Stop making up specs. GTX690 by itself uses nearly 300W of power and it costs $1000. It's impossible to fit that inside a console.
Mobile GPUs are the most logical choices for consoles due to focus on power consumption. AMD's HD7970M is only 5%%%% slower than GTX680M but costs $350-400 less:
NV got shot out of the next gen consoles because they charge way too much $. Also, Kepler is inferior for DirectCompute / Open CL / OpenGL which are important since PS4 is going to use Linux for its operating system and probably most games will be coded using some form of these.
BTW, there is no such thing as an 8-core Cell with 128 SPUs. The Cell is getting abandoned because it was an overhyped/overpriced turd. Pentium 4 3.2ghz had faster instructions per clock than the Cell. Even games like Killzone 2 cannot utilize the 6 SPUs (SPEs) in the PS3. No one would be dumb enough to make Cell 2.0 for PS4 since Cell 1.0 was a failure from every angle.
I could care less about this being a PtP feature, I just hope we can use this to send video directly to Sony for banning cheaters and/or support issues.
great time for an upgrade. Since I am more of the home media person now, I want more pc like features. I like my ps3 but it is old and the web surfing is doable but could be better.
Well then...how much of that footage can be or IS to be accessible by Sony...? And then what for? That's a thin veneer for base information mining...
Nothing but Cannon fodder, I want to see the PS4 already, its about time, I want to compare it to its brethren
Way to go Sony, prematurely launch the next Gen when your PS3 hasn't even been used to its potential yet. You've got what, 7 good exclusives, 5 that anyone even cares about.
@Grenadeh sonys doing a great job the ps4 will come out later this year all the big ps3 games are coming in early 2013 so sonys timing is perfect
@Grenadeh at least we have those 7 exclusives ( if i start counting tho its 20+)
unlike your crapbox which is stuck with 3 ip's since launch so kindly stfu do some research,go play some kinect craps with mommy ans little sista before bashing a console and stop been butthurt cause you dont have any exclusives kkthxbb.
@Grenadeh Dude, PS3 is done. Accept it. To be fair, 360 is done, too... so accept that. These machines have been at their limits for the past 2 years.
Yeah, yeah... we know... Sony and their 10 year lifecycle. That's a nice thing to say when you've sold over 150 million of the machines, but it's another story when you're sitting at just under half that and you lost the world's largest video game market.
Give us a new console already. Also, fix that damn controller.
@DukeMagnum @Grenadeh it will still have a 10 year life cycle even if they release the ps4 this year just because they release a new console doesn't mean that they would stop supporting the old they did the same thing with the ps1 ps2 and psp and Sony are the only ones that will support a console long after the next ones has been released both M$ and Nintendo stop supporting their consoles after the next one was release long before Sony did hell last year we were still hearing that the ps2 was still selling pretty well but nothing about the xbox or gamecube
and he is kinda right the so good ps3 exclusives that are coming out this year but there were also some great ps2 games at the end of it life cycle has well
and there is nothing wrong with he controller don't you remember when they did try to change it for the ps3 there was a huge up roar about and so many people wanted them to keep the controller they way it was so they did btw this has never happen to Nintendo nor M$
as long as ps3 games are possible will be playable on the new console and you get to keep your psn account, then i am a happy fellow
My question:Is the entire thing about blocking used games true? If it is, I'm boycotting every company who does it. The industry has gotten greedy enough with DLC, but I can tolerate that. I won't tolerate not even being able to take games to my friends' house.
@thereal-15-cent actually places that sell used games like gamestop are WAY WORSE they give you hardly anything for them then sell it $5 less then the price of a new copy now that is a ripoff plus the devs don't see any of that money while places like gamestop can't keep on reselling that same game over and over and that has happen before were they have sold 1 game (the same disc) 6 or 7 times and made a huge profit on each sell and every time they sold it for $5 less then price of the game new and give the person who sell it to them hardly anything
@thereal-15-cent Maybe you can take your came to your friends house, as long you log in with your account. That would not be worse than Steam, iOS or Android.
I'll be there on release waiting for it. And same with the Xbox 720, I just hope microsoft learned there lesson from the Xbox 360. I bought both PS3 and Xbox 360 at launch and had to replace my Xbox 360 4 times while I still have the first model of the PS3 and is still working great. Although super excited for these new consoles :)
@killerklaus I'm waiting for at least a year before I buy a new console. Most of them break within a year, and they always have greats deals later. Like the GoW PS3 with tons of gigs and a red finish that they just announced.
@killerklaus that's how the US sales of Xbox sold so well, My launch Xbox lasted until April last year, and got the Star Wars one like the Nerd I am. But bought 2 PS3's because It was the best BluRay player in 2006, and updatable and still running amazingly so my parents have one at their home. Both have 7200rpm 750 GB HDD's so they really are the center of my living room and my parents.
No need to buy 3rd party recording tools which can cost up to several hundred dollars. If the feature is any good to begin with.
@DevilMightCry actually people who like to stream would still need to buy it and you can get a decent one of these for only couple of hundred dollars

@ABEzilla116 like they dont do that alrdy?
@ABEzilla116 yeah you probably right that is how it would be used most of the time but there will be allot of oh shit type moments and some very awesome moments you just have to take good with the bad also it isn't like they will be forcing you to watch it or use it
My biggest concern and worry is the ability of the PS4 playing used games, now I know this has been a rumour that been around since the PS4 was first announced. However I do hope this does remain a rumour and isn't put into force. This would definitely be a deal breaker for me in getting a PS4.
If this does happen, I think this would seriously affect people buying the PS4, if they unable to play used games or borrowed games from friends. Even if they did this, I'm sure the hackers out there would develop a way to override this feature.
