Sony's PlayStation 4 spot notches 26.3 million views, beating out Super Bowl ads from Samsung, Jeep, Chevy.
Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal advertisement was YouTube's most-watched ad in February, according to a new insight report from the video site.
The spot--released February 20 and embedded below--has recorded 26.3 million views, beating out a host of Super Bowl ads, which was released far earlier in the month.
The PS4 reveal ad scored 5 million more views than the next closest, Samsung Mobile's "The Next Big Thing" for its Galaxy line of phones and tablets. The PS4 promotional video also topped ads from major companies like Pepsi, Jeep, Chevy, and Oreo.
The YouTube ad leaderboard is determined by an algorithm that factors in paid views, organic views, and view rate, rather than a simple tally of views for unavoidable pre-roll videos.
The PS4 launches this holiday season. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
anyone know that MS guy's handle who said not many people will know about the PS4 announcement we need to forward him this link
@steelmouth "some good news at last for playstation it fanally came out on top of xbox on something"
huh ? the playstation 3 is on top in worldwide sales....
the xbox enjoy s the last place....try harder tho
Can't say this news is all that surprising with how long this current gen has lasted and the mysteriousness surrounding the next one! :\
You mean something that interests people worldwide got more views than something that only interests people from one single country? Impossibru!
the amount of views for that video alone is only 50 or so million less than the amount of xbox 360's sold overall. next gen xbox does not stand a chance in console war, they may survive till next gen thanks to kinect 2 but after seeing vr tech coming out from sony I highly doubt it.
@Aaronp2k Just because you see an ad doesn't mean you're going to buy something. It just means you're interested. Who knows? The Next Xbox trailer could get a hundred million views.
@96augment @Aaronp2k I highly doubt the xbox is going to be able to top the ps4. The best they will be able to do is match it, but ps4 already have some really good developers working toward their system so they have the best support so far. Also with the vr headset coming out, kinect is going to be pretty outdated and become nothing more than just fun for the family.
@96augment @Aaronp2k are you kidding me. Microsoft have some of the worst developers ever in the history of the technological industry. Look at the state of windows vista when it came out, and then they released 7 (which is what vista was supposed to be anyway), and then they came out with windows 8 which is god awful. Their console was an absolute mess, took them many builds to sort the rrod out. It took sony 2 builds to get their ylod sorted. Face it, microsoft are epic failures.
@Aaronp2k I'm sure that the Next Xbox has some good developers working on it as well. It's too early to say the PS4 will beat the Next Xbox or vice versa. We just have to wait and see.
So by your logic Justin Bieber and Gangnam are the best thing to happen to music based on hits on Youtube!
@wcwj26 you have to understand sony have been making entertainment systems for decades long before microsoft has. It was not so long ago when microsoft had only just ventured into the market with their first xbox. Sony make tv's, they make hi-fi systems, their walkmans were very popular. They have experience marketing entertainment systems, and therefore they are naturally going to do much better. the only thing other than xbox what microsoft makes is all software based (microsoft games, microsoft office, windows os). Only recently have they even started manufacturing their own brand of computers to compete with apple.
@wcwj26 No, you are misinterperting what I said. From a marketing perspective microsoft are high up shit creek was my point, I did not once say the ps4 is going to be better than the next gen xbox, I just said it does not stand a chance in the console war because they have literally nothing good to show off about their console other than kinect 2 which is nothing groundbreaking anyway.
OK two games I didn't recognized:
The game with the cloaked guy teleporting and killing stuff.
More importatantly: what is this game with the dragon and the armored knight? it looks awesome! Dragon's Dogma 2 maybe?
@GunEye 1) InFamous Second Son 2) Deep Down (working title) from capcom
@Landsharkk my friend im no fanboy I like my xbox but I love the best my ps3, is more reliable ( dont scratch my discs i still have my fat one no ring of dead no AA batteries in my controllers and the list keep going ) also the benefits in ps+ are far beyond MS .
ps3 = There are currently 772 games (multiplatform: 621; exclusive: 143; console exclusive: 8) and 15 cancelled games on this list as of January 14, 2013.
xbox= There are currently 946 games (multiplatform: 744; exclusive: 123; console exclusive: 79) on this list as of February 26, 2013.
all data from Wikipedia .. ps3 came a year after at a high price and still ps3 catch up in sales ..
by the way we all know why xbox sells more and is not because is better quality , is because is hackable and you can buy 2 dollars copied full games.
so we don't have to be so smart to realize that because of MS lack of anti-piracy measures, devs started to support playstation better ( money talks ) . this is why MS is being strongly rumored to block games with some sort of pc activation code to gain developers trust once again .
also MS only good exclusives are 2 of them ( which I really like ) but nothing more .
devs preferred xbox configuration to develop games because it is ( cheaper, faster , easier ) but we all saw what happened when ps3 mastered its dev process with superior exclusives.
no wanting to argue because i leave that field to trolls and kids, because I am excited for the next ps4 and I really do not complain for not seeing the console and hear only specs . but it wouldn't be so fun if sony would have thrown all the meat in the grill, there have to be some mystery that keep you wanting to know more before launch .. I think sony seems to be doing the right thing and I'm happy to be a gamer ..
NEERDS 4 LIFE YO hahaha
peace mic down .
The console market is not dead or in decline it has just been sleeping for 2-3 years longer then it should have. This fall will be the kick in the pants the gameindustry has been so desperately needing, and will benefit all platforms of gaming.
I wouldn't call something that forces you to watch it the "most viewed". More like, "we have the most money, so we can shove it down your digital throat and then say everyone specifically searched for a PS4 ads to watch."
I'm thinking the reason that video is so highly watched is because of the games being shown. Take any 8 games for next gen and put them into a single video, I'll bet that video will do nearly as well as the PS4 video above.
Basically what I'm saying is that the video above isn't really popular because it's PS4, it's popular because it's showing next gen games (some of which are multi-platform, and some of which didn't even show in-game footage).
If the video above had shown the actual console, including spec information and maybe parts of the new PSHome, then maybe that would mean people watched it for PS4. However, none of that was shown.

@Landsharkk I can guarantee you wouldn't be saying the same if it were the next Xbox. I've seen enough of your comments already.
There are currently on PS3 772 games (multiplatform: 621; exclusive: 143; console exclusive: 8) as of January 14, 2013.
for Xbox 360 946 games (multiplatform: 744; exclusive: 123; console exclusive: 79) on this list as of February 26, 2013.
As you can see 143=/123 + the 123 is not a clean 123 wanted games but 50% of it is Kinect games .
@onixevil Your numbers are way off.
There are closer to 3,300 games on the Xbox 360. The PS3 has about 2,700 games. This information can be verified on numerous statistic websites.
Even so, where are you getting the info that 50% are Kinect games?
You seem to enjoy making up numbers.
It's good to hear Sony's newly hired marketing agency (or internal team, whichever) is showing their worth. Hopefully the same dedication spills over to the games as well. This generation was disastrous for Sony in terms of advertising its games. Starhawk, Sly Cooper, Playstation All Stars..they were just sent out to die.
But it seems like this is beginning to change, especially when considering the PS4 will be a social gaming device on its own. Consumer advocacy for games is probably going to increase...a lot.
I'm not surprised. Almost every video I go to watch on yourtube has the PS4 commercial playing. Nice job Sony.
Hey Eddie!!!!! You forgot to mention there that Sony's chairman, Howard Stringer, is retiring in June.
Ya slippin' there Eddie..........
lol i didnt want to watch that stupid commercial lol they forced me to watch it every time i wanted to watch either funny videos or just to watch legends of the hidden temple , sony needs to quit force feeding garbage down peoples throats,
i dont think ps4 is bad but that commercial sure is
So people were watching vids on YouTube and they were forced to watch specific commercials. When they finally made it through the ad they could watch the video. Wow, congratulations for forcing an inordinate amount of people to waste 30 seconds every 5 minutes. Chalk that up to a win, I guess.
