PS3 Slim = Sony's big GamesCom reveal?

If it's a new PS3 I will damn kill someone. I sold my fat PS3 for this one...don't want to do it again for a sexier one. I think this time I won't...but I'll be pissed. And YES, BC MUST be back. For the people that doesn't get tired of saying "why don't you buy a PS2, it's only, blah..." 1. HD Upscaling 2. Virtual Memory Cards 3. Not having to unplug everything for playing PS2 games when the PS3 is conected 4. Wireless controllers 5. If having HDMI, 5.1., progressive scan and others 6. Because it is just fair. Only an ignorant wouldn't realize that and keep saying "why don't you buy a PS2?".

@SaMec3110 ya cuz it uses blu-ray and the blu-ray is reagion free though some movies may be region locked

hi ... Pls i need help... when i buy in USA PS3 slim it is posible play games bought in europe?

I have a PS2, but I still want BC on the European PS3. why? Becuse I also have a XBOX, and xbox 360 and a Wii.... and its too crowded next to my TV. I have a us PS3 that has BC, but if I could have it on the EU version I would probably get it too, becuse then I could get all my european ps2 games and all my movies working on the same unit. The only ps2 games I play now are the ones that I have imported from the us that works on my ps3. My ps2 is gathering dust becuse I don´t have the space for it, and I don't bother to start the old console. Also it is the slim version and the hatch don't want to go down enough so if I want to play a game on my ps2 I have to put a heavy object on it so it understands that it has a cd in it. sorry for writing this long text. I guess it comes down to this... Ask your self, would you rather have 2 game consoles to shift between or one that could play everything?

What I don't get is that if people want to play ps2 games, why don't they buy a ps2? It's still on the market ya know.

savage, who needs ps2 bc when you already have a ps2? if you don't, buy one, they are only $100 new and about $70 used

The moment Backwards Compability comes out for the PS3 is the moment gamers like me (who still value the old PS2 games) are gonna jump aboard the PS3 community.

bty I think the slim is a good idea as long as Sony doesn't scrap the original look and doesn't reduce the performance and too much of the memory capacity.

topple the Wii? more like annihilate it. The Wii is already dangerously close to being creamed by the current PS3 and 360 versions. Sony is already trying to making their own hardware to add in to the PS3 that copies the Wii. When that comes out what do you think gamers will choose? The old Wii or the new PS3 slim (or addon to the PS3) that had the same capability as a Wii but is also as good a PS3? The exact same thing will probably happen with the 360.

wishful thinking, but if they release a PS3 slim that starts at $299 and has BC with PS2 games then that will entice a lot of gamers to jump aboard. Should they do that, they might be able to build enough momentum to topple the wii within the next few years. But again, wishful thinking.

You know i think that the performance might drop. My frnd had a original ps2 and i had the slim 1 and when i played my games on his ,i found the performance to b slightly better than mine. Who knows whats gonna happen to the ps3 in slim mode. P.S i think ps3 slims gonna rock!

what make Sony think that the Slim Ps3 gonna sells?! its still a ps3 and it'll do just a bad in the third place.

i also HOPE N PRAY they FIX the ventilation problem with the PS3 that the slim will have being it won't have as much room to duct the hot air as the original model and we ALL know what the ventilation problem does.... it RUINS out Blu Ray Drives where it won't detect games, so i think sony has a WHOLE lota problems still to fix before they need to release this ps3 slim. I've fallen victim to the blu ray failure because of lack of ventilation due to the RETARDED 90nm die sinks that sony just can't seem to get it right with taking old models and swapping them with the new 65nm models as trade ins on old ps3s that's messed up so the problem could be AVOIDED again at ALL COST. but no sony just repairs the model and sends the same one back.

they've TOTALLY eliminated b/c for ps2 because they're still marketing the ps2 and it hurt the ps2 sales inwhich sony discontinued the original 80/60gb version that supported it and i think the early 20gb also did, the 40gb was the only one that only had support for ps1 games. not completely sure but i'm confident that's why.

Will it have B/C with PS2 games? I think that will be a huge deal breaker with a lot of people.

I will be glad about a price cut, but the ps3 prototype slim, that have been leacked, looks UGLY! I hope they change the looks and have new stuff with it or still sell the old ps3.

I donno i bought my PS3 almost 2 yaers ago and the price hasn't dropped once since so maybe that was the best time to buy, as the value is still pretty much the same. I think Sony need to do something pretty big to reclaim some market share

I seem to notice many gamers who own a x360 saying they will buy a PS3 once it price drops but I never really read that PS3 owners will get an Xbox360 price drop or not.

I assumed it would happen eventually. They've done it with both their previous systems. That said, are there going to be any benefiets to buying one? I'm assumign it still has teh same features as teh current models (give or take HDD Space), so I can't justify buying one. Especially if it doesn't have PS3 B/C. That said, for those who want a PS3, it's great news. Next gen I'll have to remember not to buy the original model. Just wait for the slim.

@ Hvac0120 I know what you mean;) i ment to say that the fan boys are those kiddys;p not ALL xbox360 owners......my brother acually chose xbox over ps3 becuase of price and he is selfemployed and could buy a ps3 a day! he is just a cheap-ass and not overly into playing games, so its 100% understandable (a bit i think he is mad for not getting ps3 if he can;p) he goes with 360.

I would be interested in a PS3 by the time this supposedly, well-known-secret-rumor-slim-thing, comes out. I bought my 360 when RPG's started surfacing on it because I'm an RPG fan. I've been leeching off my roomies PS3 for now since there weren't any major RPG's to be found. Now that White Knight Chronicles is coming and since Valkyria Chronicles looks so charming I'm finally interested in giving a crap about the PS3. ;D @izmickey Because you enjoyed dissing on the poster before you for being ill-informed, I'd like to acknowledge your misinformation. Before you assault a fellow gamer voicing his/her own personal opinion, do him/her the honor of reading their post. Although it's a bit abbreviated, Trip does say "I can think of many other cross platfor and exclusives that I'll be getting for my 360." Trip never said that those games were exclusives, Trip just said that s/he would prefer to own them on 360. And just because someone's a silly fanboy doesn't mean you have to pick a fight every time. If one console was truly superior why on earth would all three of them still be thriving? ;p

Slim rumor = true Price drop rumor = the MSFT xbox 360 hype machine created these... think of all the disappointment in Sony in the marketplace when they announce the slim PS3, and it's at a $399 price point. Everyone will continue to think that Sony is dropping the ball.

@izmickey You should learn how to read a little more carefully next time before calling anyone else foolish. He didn't say they were exclusives, he said he'll get them on the 360 because of the better online network. And IIRC, Splinter Cell is a 360 exclusive nah? I ain't no 360 fanboy or whatever. I don't even own one. I own a PS3 and Wii but you just made yourself look hella foolish. Good day.

All this hype IMO is worthless without the games to back it up. There are only 2 games that I will be getting for my PS3, U2 and GOW3 (Next Year!). There are not any other exclusives that really make me want to spend my money on a PS3 game. On the other hand, I can think of many other cross platfor and exclusives that I'll be getting for my 360; L4D2, AC2, MW2, Splinter Cell, and others. And I am only getting those on the 360 because IMO it has a much better online network. If Sony could concentrate more on PSN and making it more user friendly and accessable I would most likely buy the cross platformers for the PS3 as I have always been a Sony fan at heart. But this gen they blew it IMO of course.

@BenBenBen93 Well that new lionhead game is gonna need to compete with some good PS3 exclusive titles and why would they have a 3hr conference just to announce a new SKU their will be loads more

i just want to add that i find this kind of strange. Seems like the console that offers more for your buck(PS3) is not doing too great, while the other system(xbox360) which offers less is selling better but the wii which offers the LEAST is the best selling console....something is not right in this current gen console business.

Just drop the price already - that's all we care about. Instead of faffing about with the size or features - still less than the original 60GB, just drop the price and get competitive. In the UK the PS3 is still twice the price of the 360, and never gets the price reductions and promotions that the US and Japan get.

@Muteki_X I am not a sony board member i got this from N4G or Kotaku dont remember or they are going to make it come with the huge 3.0 update installment. And if it is what i said before buy them of PSN i am sure they will make u put some code when u purchase to get it for free..
