PS3 motion-controlling Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

EA Sports announces June's golf sim will support the console's LED wand-based control scheme, due out this fall; Ryder Cup online multiplayer mode revealed.

Today, EA Sports announced that the PlayStation 3 edition of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will support the console's upcoming motion controller, believed to be called the "PlayStation Arc." The game will have the functionality despite being released in June--months before the LED wand-and-camera-based system arrives in stores in the fall. The system had originally been planned to launch in the spring.

The publisher did not say whether the PS3 motion support would come via a downloadable patch or be built in to the game, but it did say it would deliver an "authentic interactive swing experience." No mention was made of Project Natal, the rival motion-sensing system launching on the Xbox 360 later this year.

EA Sports also revealed the PS3 and 360 editions of the game will feature an online multiplayer mode based on the Ryder Cup. The game will let up to 24 players play in four-person teams in the biennial tournament's signature events, which alternate shots, fourballs, and singles. Players can either choose the US or European team, which will be respectively represented by Woods and ninth-ranked Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy on the game's cover. It is the first time in the series' 11-year history that Woods has had to share the cover with another athlete.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will launch in North America on June 8 on the PS3, 360, iPhone, and Wii with Wii MotionPlus support. It is one of the few products to feature the athlete in the wake of his sex scandal, which surfaced Thanksgiving weekend. Since then, Woods became sponsorship kryptonite, with Accenture Consulting, AT&T, Gillette, and Gatorade all dropping him as a spokesperson. However, even though Woods has been absent from the green since November, EA Sports is keeping him front and center of his eponymous golf-sim series.

Don't see why he should be criticized for something in his private life.

Have been playing the Beta... really struggling with controlling the car whilst avoiding the wife swinging the club around, keep hitting trees and fire hydrants.

Buying the next Tiger game just to say "I don't care about his personal faults." Plus I like golf.

Agreed. If anyone is to criticized someone for doing something wrong, they should criticize themselves because EVERYONE in this world has made a mistake in their lives.

I'm glad they're still giving Tiger Woods a chance to get back in the world. A man shouldn't be condemed forever for a mistake.

Well at least one of his sponsors are sticking to him... though with the motion control feature I would hope they would add a "Feel Up The Occasional Woman" minigame. You could use the control to grip and grab... but watch out cause if the press catches you getting your groove on then GAME OVER.

The six axis has ruined enough games already? Like one...Lair. Which later received a patch for regular controls

    "authentic interactive swing experience"

This could anger his wife some more.

God damn it, Sony, I don't want motion control. The Sixaxis has ruined enough games already, and just as PS3 devs stopped putting it into their games, this comes along? I hope it fails horribly.

Hopefully the controller will be up to the same level of performance, or better, as the Wii controller. I have the TW game for the Wii and the Motion Plus made it really fun. Putting sensitivity has to be done correctly here or that part of the game will suck so hopefully Sony will get it all correct because the graphics on the Wii version blow. As much as we've enjoyed some of the Wii games I'll never understand why they made the system with such craptastic graphics processing. It has really held the Wii back from being a great system.

Honestly, tiger woods took it pretty well. He sat back a while and let the media make comedy of it for a while, then once it started to settle a bit thats when he stepped up to apologize. He's not the first one to cheat on a wife.

Come on! This whole motion control thing should remain restrained to the casual players (read wii players), I hope this is just an exception.

Eh...I knew there'd be at least one cat to comment on the scandal. Predictable and lame, not a good combo.

I doubt this would make the game any better.

I agree with you fossunit143, I rather play this kind of game on my playstation 3 for better network support, graphics, features, and now a controller that is supposed to be much more accurate than Wii Motion Plus
