We check in with Square to see whether we can expect to see anything more come out of the popular PlayStation 3 tech demo.
CHIBA CITY, Japan--One of the highlights of the trailer compilation shown in one of the main theaters on the show floor of the Square Enix Party 2005 is the PlayStation 3 technology demo of the opening sequence of Final Fantasy VII. Ever since the short clip's debut in May during Sony's E3 press conference, there has been talk that the footage shown is evidence that Square Enix intends to release a remake of the FFVII. The talk started up again with renewed interest, as the clip took centerstage during a compilation of trailers shown of upcoming Square Enix games. We took the opportunity to talk to a Square Enix rep for the internal division within the company, whose focus is on the properties relating to Final Fantasy VII, to get the scoop.
Square Enix's initial response to our inquiry about whether the tech demo is suggestive of a full game in the works fell in the realm of a carefully worded corporate response. The reps noted that, as was mentioned at E3, the demo was created to show just how powerful the PlayStation 3 technology is. As a result, it's a tech demo only and is not intended to indicate that a PS3 remake of FFVII is presently under active development by the company.
However, when pressed, the reps also noted that further plans for content based on FFVII haven't been set, per se. They affirmed that the resulting reaction from fans over the demo footage and the content related to FFVII shown at the party has been overwhelmingly positive. As a result, provided fan reaction continues to be feverishly positive over the demo, and the very notion of a FFVII remake is certainly something Square Enix would bear in mind when planning future projects.
Does this mean it's on? Probably not at this exact moment, but at this point, we're willing to bet it's not a matter of if an FFVII remake will happen, but when.
Until the day they finally make production, I'll just gonna have to settle playing the original on my PSP.
all this was to get people so excited they would go buy the crap FFXIII and desperately await the remake of FFVII..i smashed my 360 with ff13 inside and ripped the guide book into 50million bits a rubbish empty auto-battle-crap game 15 years of playing FF down the drain a remake would really get me hooked again as long as they dont screw with it to much i will only own a ps3 for ff7........but then again i might just buy a ps3 and stick my ps1 copy in..or play it on my ps1
OMG! If they made a remake, i'd be over the moon!!!! I don't mind what the storyline would be about, I' d just love the fact that they are considering to creat a remake. Keep on hoping, and cross your fingers. Then maybe we'll know. LUV FF7!!
ITS ABOUT TIME THEY TOLD US WEATHER THIS IS GOIN TO BE MADE OR NOT SO WE DONT GET OUR HOPES UP FOR NOTHING we just want to know is this coming or not enough with the delays they made us put up with the idea of them remaking 7,8 and 9 for ps2 and nothing now theyve shown something this awsome for ps3 a potential remake for the EPIC Final Fantasy 7 game that would sell so much they wudnt be able to make enough copies of it people would buy ps3's just for that game and i know evry1 on this site will back me on that gamespot if u do read the updates in forums please find out what the hels going on with this title they would make billions on it easily the amount of people that are waiting for a remake is un-imaginable i would honestly buy 2 copies incase 1 got damaged or worn out lol well i hope they release some information soon as this hasnt been updated in such a long time sry for the caps at the start felt like ranting :D hope we hear something from this :D
Skywalkerforce i totally agree with that sephiroth idea it would be sick! and to the other argument Xbox heads piss off everyone knows plastation kicks ass anyone who defected to xbox are traitors in my eyes the only thing they ever did good was Halo and even thats starting to suck! xbox graphics are up there but to me there graphics are a little cartoony for me and any way why fill microsofts pockets they raut us with computers everyday they will do it with xbox watch and see
You can download it (the original) on the PlayStation Network now for like 10 bucks, I think that's what he's talking about.
So this game is out now if I'm not mistaken. I'll be pissed if I paid for and am downloading a demo, I was under the impression that it was the full working version. Anyway I wanna say it's about bloody time. You could download a pirated version of the game to play on your psp a couple of years back, so I have no idea why it's taken sony so long to release it through PSN for psp and ps3. Oh well, it's here now so who cares?
WOW I remember posting a comment on here years ago about this and look nothing has happened, I still keep high hopes for the remake, I think a nice PS3 exclusive would be awesome with a special edition console to go along and then release it on the xbox 360 because i am not bias but i do think since this game is a sony exclusive in the first place it should stay that way. Also, who here thinks a prequel on Sephiroth would be cool, being able to play him as he became a legend in soldier and then being there for his downfall in Niebelheim. But seriously Square hurry up and finish your projects so you can start working on FFVII again. Oh yea and Crisis Core is an awesome game too.
Why hasn't this happened yet??? Talk about a console mover, even in this economy people would buy this thing like there were no tomorrow!!!
i would pay extra to get a copy of a remake.....we need a remake it would make the Final Fantasy series even better than they already are....
They really need tothink about making a remake of FFVII! It is like the Holy Grail of the RPG's and so many people love it!! As long as they kept it as close to the original as possible (obviously with the much better graphics) and didn't include lots of stuff that wasn't in the first one i think it'd be a huuuugge hit, especially with all the original fans! Im still trying to gett my hands on the original version for the PS so's i can play it again! It still rates with any of the best of nows RPG's
Again I say they need this we fans needs this I own both PS3 and 360 so I'd buy it for both systems thats a fact Square Enix should really do this if they do they will prove they are the greates RPG makers of all time but only if they include Hironobu Sakaguchi of Mistwalker on this project because he is the father of all the FINAL FANTASYs' if it wasn't for him there would be no FINAL FANTASY. Hironobu Sakaguchi created Final Fantasy and should lead the project.
imagine how much money it will be if SE remakes FFVII. i'll be one of the many people to give you a profit SE. remake FFVII now!
I think at the very least Square should rerelease the game as the original playstation version, as all PS3s can play them and upconvert them. But I'm still waiting for the PS3 remake, or at least hoping.
i want to get into ff so badly and its so hard because all the games are practically antiques, ill be getting any future releases and apparently VII was the best so this one would be a must buy
if i may shed some light on the topic of console wars here, to end it? everyone is a fanboy/girl for their system, so stop arguing about that. I, however, have the wonderful joy of hating them both, and therefore sticking with my ps2. So here's how it is, from a totally neutral standpoint. FINAL FANTASY VII. take that statement in. realize everything it means to so many people. understand what it was, and still is, to everyone that grew up with it [myself included]. Now, don't you think if this was released as a PS3 exclusive, it would have the highest rate of console sales due to a single game? This IS FFVII we're talking about, and whether you worship it the way I or millions of others do or not, there is still that majority out there that loves it more than anything. I know I would buy any system this game was released on, just to play it. [assuming there's a remake/port] so forget system. focus on the game, because with a game like FFVII, people WILL buy new systems if they have to. theend.
Recently this discussion has turned into the microsoft and sony loyalists whoever has one system will vote for that one regardless of they themselves bought it or received as a present. Now i am not saying i dont do this, because i own a 360 i will argue to the death about its superiority to any PS3 fan. but when it comes to FFVII a game that has influenced my life of gaming and i can say this for a fact that when i found my old copy without a memory card i played it through without saving and remembered the childlike joy i felt when i would come home and play the game. if i remember right i maxed out almost every character (except Yuffie and Cait Sith, especially the latter. any character whose limit break can end the game for you is not worth leveling) so i think that yes if Squeenix does decide to make it a PS3 exclusive, we are guaranteed a game that will break the realm of gaming as we know it, and if they want to make a shiny penny they will dull down the graphics and the gameplay (if they make it as action packed as advent children combined with the freeze action gameplay of crisis core we are looking at something truly amazing... tetsuya nomura please for the love of god dont let us down) to satisfy the masses, but we always say graphics dont play a part but i would say it gives a game a bigger flare when your not bugged by small mistakes in lack of solidarity or their graphics engine doesn't quite agree with fabric. you have seen it in dynasty warriors and we know that if a movie looks better in graphics the more likely you are to enjoy it. So i have addressed the console aversion problem as well as console unity. i just hope they actually come out with the game otherwise this has been pointless. anyone thought about that? ttfn
Now I'm just voicing my opinion, if you want to waste your time flaming at me go for it. If the do make a remake for FF7 I'm hoping that they will make it on the Xbox360 as well. They'd definitely get ALOT more sales being that I have friends, and I myself, that were loyal to Sony for a long time before they came out with PS3, and have now switched to Microsoft because they f*cked up royally on that console. And I'm ranting now... One thing that does make this a probability is that SE is releasing FF13 on the 360, they just might do the same for FF7. Hell they'd make a lot more money, after that announcement the PS3 is working its way to scrap.
@Brenton_2 I'm also a hge fan of FF7, I've played FF5 and 6 before it but never realized the fame FF had until FF7 came to me. I do not agree wth your comment however, I believe FF7, if there is indeed a remake, should be made for more than just PS3. I would like to share the amazing experience with more than just PS3 owners. If FF7 was made for PSone in 1997, it should now be remade not for the sake of FF7 fans to squeeze out some more money off us(which I would still buy lol), but for those who didn't have the chance to feel FF7 experience. Also, the console didn't bring FF7 to the masses,FF7 brought the console to the masses. Game brings the console to the masses, not the other way around.
Not too long after having been presented with the first PlayStation, I was very curious with all the holiday commercials depicting "Final Fantasy VII." I have been gaming since I was a young lad, and I have heard of the 'Final Fantasy' games prior to VII. What I've seen on the commercials convinced me to get it; and I've never regreted having bought it. "Final Fantasy VII" was indeed a great game to introduce me into the role-playing genre. A great experience can be had when good gameplay is combined with an engrossing story. When I first saw the PS3 Tech Demo, I knew I had to make an effort to share, every chance I got, how I agree with the idea of "Final Fantasy VII" to be remade exclusively for the PlayStation 3. XBox 360 owners please excuse this PS3 Fan, because he strongly feels that a 'reunion' of this magnitude should be exclusively left to the console that brought FFVII to the masses. Also, I believe that an enhanced remake of the world of "Final Fantasy VII," and characters therein, can only be realized on the SONY PlayStation 3 and it's Blu-ray discs. To the publishers and developers of SquareEnix, I implore you all to take on this remake. Take your time with this masterpiece, and make it a reality.
I have one BIG Douht that FFVII will be remaded and that's mainly Becouse FFVII was a BIG LONG GAME!. These days Final Fantasy Games are getting shorter & shorter on every release mined you mined you they shore have change since FFI :p But on a better note... me wont ME WONT!
Please don't flame. I would get the PS3 just to play this game, since I haven't played it at all in the PS1. I would like to hope they make it exactly as the 1st one. I think I'll never play the 1st one until I play the PS3 version.
make this http://www.petitiononline.com/ff7remke/petition.html for ff7
Well, I've finished Crisis Core and I'm wanting to play FF VII now. Wish I hadn't found out that Aeris dies though, she's lovely. :*( Anyway, maybe this is why they haven't released the PS One version on the PSN.. If they remade VII for the PS3, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Hell, if they remade it for the PSP, I'd buy it on that too!
I love how this was posted over 3 years ago and it is STILL getting hits and comments. That should tell Square-Enix and Sony something. For a Final Fantasy 7 remake, in addition to redone graphics, audio, and voice acting, I want something else: more sidequests and trophies. Yes, the game is excellent, and already features a ton of sidequests... but I want more! A remake alone is great, especially given the excellence of the game, but additional content would be icing on the cake for me. Trophies are a must as well. That's a game I wouldn't have any problem mastering completely (again), and a platinum trophy to show for it would be just grand.
I find it surprising that they have not released final fantasy 7 into the Playstation Store unders PSOne Classics. I like to think that this means that they are planning on making a remake at some point in the future and dont want people to download the PSOne classic of it and loose their appetite for the remake.
everything i've read agrees with the last statement of this article... everyone is saying that it's not in the works it's not in production NO ONE at Square has said "it's not happening" one excuse was that the original development team is busy... that doesn't constitute that the game isn't being planed, just that currently it's not being developed... My heart would drop and I would be the happiest man if FFVII made it's way to the PS3 but I would not be surprised either...
Well at the end of Crisis Core credits they started the FF7 trailer (PS3 style)and added 5 seconds extra from the PS3 demo just for Cloud to say some words. So it could be a sign of saying that they are remaking the game but probably after XIII is done. Besides they don't need to do much, they got the story, characters, etc.. finished all they need to work on is the graphics and the music Let see the reactment of Aeris death on a PS3 that would make anyone cry.
Why doesn't Square just listen to FF fans and do a next-gen FF7 . It would make fans of the series go mental and they'd rake in millions from it.
i'll find a ps3 if they make it, and who knows it's been 3 years since they said that so i'd give it another year before they finally approve it
This would be the game that would make me buy a PS3 for. Pity they have no intention of doing it. :(
I'd love to se a remake of FF7, even though i dont own a ps 3 I might think about buying one just for the FF7 remake. I also agree that the only thing they should do is to remake the graphics... If you want to see a remake of FF7, then please sign this petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/ff7remke/petition.html
I rly want to see it as a game on PS3 or even PSP/PS2 but I think the ONLY thing that should be done is to re-do graphics cuz If they touch on the battle system or even the side quests I think it will kill the game, don't you guys agree that FF I is WAY better than FF XII. That last one is more of an MMORPG than FF... Anyway just redo Graphics and I'm sure all people have FFVI will pay another 60$ to get that one too.
Making the remake would end up being the best game of all time.It should be released for ps3 psp and ps2 if games are still made for it at the time of the release.
they should definitely make the remake. no offence but i would like to see the in-game 'movies' in better graphics and with voices to, IT WOULD BE THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!!!
With what everyone has been saying, I actually think it would be great Idea to remake this game. Just redo the graphics and sort out a few bad things in the previous game and hey presto, perfect game in every aspect.
