PS2 Far Cry Instincts extinct
"Reimagined" console version of Ubisoft's PC shooter will now be exclusive to the Xbox.
PlayStation 2 owners looking to get a piece of the highly acclaimed PC shooter Far Cry action wept tears of joy when Ubisoft announced that Far Cry Instincts, the console take on the game, would be coming to the PS2 and Xbox.
It's time for them to open up another box of Kleenex, but for entirely different reasons. Ubisoft today sent out a note saying that "Far Cry Instincts will be available exclusively for the Microsoft Xbox." (emphasis added) Translation: the PS2 version has been canceled.
Far Cry Instincts, which remains on course for a September 2005 release, will be a "reimagined" version of the 2004 PC hit Far Cry. In both versions of the game, hero Jack Carver is stranded on a tropical island and must battle enemy soldiers and find his missing friend. The console version will delve deeper into the game's characters and throw in a few twists to keep things fresh.
Far Cry Instincts is waiting rating and pricing information. For more details on the game, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage or take a gander at the game's official Web site.
