Gravity Rush's Kat and Starhawk's Emmett Graves will be free for download for the first two weeks.
Fans of Gravity Rush and Starhawk's lead characters--Kat and Emmett Graves, respectively--will be happy to learn that they will be selectable characters in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale early next year.
According to a Sony PlayStation blog post from Sony Santa Monica Studio lead game designer Seth Killian, the two characters will be available as DLC for free for the first two weeks of their release. Sony has yet to announce an official release date for the content.
Kat will use her gravity-shifting powers to move around the arena and will have more focus on aerial attacks. Emmett Graves will use his signature weapons as well as summon help from above, mimicking the 'Build and Battle' system from the game he's from.
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be out for the PS3 and PS Vita on November 20. Stay tuned to GameSpot for the full review.
I want to see a pilot from Armored Core for Answer. His or Her special would be to summon their NEXT and level the field. Or maybe a Gundam of some kind.
Theres plenty of characters left for dlc: Crash, Spyro, Rayman,Onimusha, Godhand, Legacy of Kain, MGS4 Old Snake, Folklore, FF series, suikoden s, grandia s, xenogears, Xenosaga, AC series, Parasite Eve, Musashi, Disgaea, Phantom Brave,Valkyrie series etc..
Why can't they put every character they can think of before releasing the game? I'm pretty sure the blu-ray disc has more than enough space
Oh yeah, just to let everyone know, there's a strong possibly that those characters are locked on the disc. When a fighting game offers DLC characters without a re-balance, that means there locked. The only actual DLC characters to have happen is SSFIV: AE As for games like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, supposedly those free DLC characters are locked on the disc. .
@Strider8009 Some files for the characters might be on the disc but I'm pretty sure they haven't made these characters yet or they would just include them given that they are offering the download for free to begin with anyway. I imagine they dropped these characters along the line to focus on making sure the game as is was as good as it could be with plans to finish these guys off later.
Oh really? They're already announcing plans for DLC to get more cash out of custo...
*sees that it's free*
Oh... well... Why not just call it a patch or update then and avoid the negative stigma associated with the term DLC? That's what this would have been called regardless before DLC showed up.
*Then sees that it's only free for two weeks*
Oh... well... Now my original reaction is largely justified. After the two week grace period at least.
@TwilightPhoenix Uh, you can download them without having the game. I don't see the problem.
@Spidex3000 It just isn't very practical unless you know for a FACT that you are getting the game. And if you are, the price isn't going to have dropped by then, unless you get it used, and even then, you might need to have the game installed for the download to work anyway if it works like most in game DLC (cerberus netwok for ME3 etc).
@ZOD777 I literally logged in just to tell you that you're an idiot, how are you going to go in on someone about predownloading?
Well, they're free, and they're two of my favorite new Playstation characters, so I can't get mad.
Damn, now I have to find another excuse to be mad about something.
@Strider8009 I agree but these aren't paid ones these are free
At least it's free and Kat does add another female to this mostly sausage fest but like many of you, I would rather see Crash or Spyro and characters that people associate with the Playstation name.
@kbaily I agree we need more females. Where is Lara Croft? She was one of the faces of the Playstation One. I hope she is DLC at some point. Maybe near or after Tomb Raider is released.
Don't see how anyone can be mad about this. This is awesome news. Both of those games are amazing! True they are not the deepest of characters but it wasn't story or great characters that made those games awesome it was the gameplay of those games that made them some of my favorite games. And the highlights of the gameplay will be incorporated into the character's movesets so I hope they are good enough for me to main them.
People are actually mad about this? I welcome new characters, especially when they are releasing them appropriately. By appropriately, I mean free. Two weeks shouldn't be a problem.

@ABEzilla116 I'm against even cosmetic changes, Capcom charging for character skins in Street Fighter or shooters charging to customize the color of your weapons are over the top. I know they're not forcing anyone to buy it but before DLC existed these things were default.
Besides something as simple as changing colors or skins takes no effort from the developers and is purely there for money grabbing.

@ABEzilla116 Ah I misunderstood and thought something else.
It doesn't matter in the end every one will have their own reasons to buy DLC regardless of how other people view it.
I know $15 for a virtual train sounds crazy but I bet someone out there would have bought it anyway.
@ABEzilla116 This was a very interesting read on the matter http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-10-most-insulting-things-video-games-charged-money-for/
Can't be disappointed with free stuffs (especially limited ones) though I do feel Sony could had waited a few weeks after the game's released to announce this DLC deal. Note to any game companies planning to release an upcoming game, if the game is not out yet, I don't want to know what contents aren't in the game before its release. That just spoils my interest for the game.
As if a two week time limit for unpopular characters is the smartest marketing strategy.
They should learn from other companies that people like free things and don't want to be rushed. For example, Tekken Tag 2 gave players who pre-order early access to four DLC characters (i.e. Kunimitsu, Ancient Ogre, Michelle Chang, Angel), although the characters were already planned to release free after a few weeks.
Then again, it would be absurd to compare a 60 character game to a 20 character roster, which 1/5 of isn't even playstation.
@00LiteYear Well, if a game has 60 characters, then those 60 characters are going to be less unique than a game that has 20 characters. When you add more characters, you take away the uniqueness of existing ones.
And I'd say 4/5th PS characters isn't bad. Oh, and Kat and Emmett have their fans. And they are the people who will probably take advantage of the free DLC so nobody else need apply.
@Ovirew From the sound of it, you don't seem to have played Tekken Tag 2. A character with a story, background, or even it's own move set is what makes he or she or it unique. But I digress; the point i'm making is this game's marketing strategy. It's basically saying, "buy this game so you can get 2 free characters, but hurry because then you'll have to pay for them." If they are free next year, why not just buy PSASBA at that time so the game goes down to probably 30 or $40 too? It's a losing strategy
Unpopular is probably the best term for the new DLC. Who knows how many have a vita --I for one am still playing PSP1000 games-- but if you ask the average gamer who Kat is, they might say she is from Final Fantasy or Persona or something.
@dguo1215 @Ovirew Are you aware Ovirew changed the subject to something unrelated to my first post? I say DLC and he or she instead wants to talk about clone characters. For your information, Kunimitsu, Ancient Ogre, Michelle Chang, and Angel are not clone characters. Some have similar moves, but their styles are different. Try for yourself, if you care.
Agreed, everyone has a quick left punch, but you and I know that the left punch follows into a combo move or even a 10 hit combo that is different for every character besides christie, eddy, and tiger.
PSASBR has more issues to worry about than just uniqueness: Camping, Spamming, Underpowered moves, underpowered characters, lack of game content, Kratos. I'm kidding about Kratos, but those issues are what makes or breaks a game.
@00LiteYear @Ovirew He's talking movewise. And he's right. Characters in PSASBR are MUCH more unique. Everyone in Tekken has a 10 frame jab, for example, for the sake of balance. In PSASBR, some characters don't even have a block button - Sly, for example, turns invisible when you block with him. It's stuff like this that makes the characters unique.
wait wait wait... so you can dl 2 free characters when you get the game within 2 week of its release or you have to wait nxt yr to dl 2 free characters when you get a copy of the game on the 20th?
ps3 ps vita Generation hero villains is bad combo with this luck they could add Characters from COD even. Where's Crash&cortex (classic ones),spyro, rayman, girl from parasite eve, lara croft, regina from Dino crisis ? :)
@Chico_Azteca In what world is offering 2 extra characters for free post release not trying and making a game with a whole bunch of clone characters with no patches and awful balancing is considered good?
@Chico_Azteca The game was already released, and the DLC is for free.
