Well, here it is September 2007 already and Alice isn't out yet. I'm seeing things on IMDB.com that suggest a release in July 2008. But that's soo far away!!!
Long-in-development game-to-movie adaptations on track to make big-screen debuts in 2007.
While most of the talk of game-to-movie adaptations of late has been focused on projects like Halo, Silent Hill, or the oeuvre of Uwe Boll, a pair of big-screen translations have been taking shape somewhat under the radar. It may be years before producer Scott Faye's Collision Entertainment manages to bring Max Payne and American McGee's Alice to movie theaters, but Yahoo Games' John Gaudiosi gives progress reports of the projects in his latest Hollywood Byte column.
Alice is set to make the transition first, with a completed script and a budget somewhere between $40 million and $50 million, reports Gaudiosi. Sarah Michelle Gellar (the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, Scooby Doo) emerged as the choice to play the lead in the Alice movie last June, with Marcus Nispel (2003's Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) attached as the film's director. Faye told Gaudiosi that Nispel has "a very visceral sense of how this game world should look on the big screen" and that filming could start this summer with a release in 2007.
As for Max Payne, there's no script as yet, but Faye is expecting one by May, with shooting to start late this year or early next. The film's budget is similarly up in the air; Faye said it could land anywhere in the $10 million to $100 million range. Gaudiosi also reports that Faye is working on a third game-to-movie project but did not specify what it was. If all goes according to plan, the film version of Max Payne could also see release in 2007.
i have only a single wallpaper of Alice.... its got me trembling to play it... a movie under American Mcgees supervision looks to be quite cool... I just finsihed Max Payne(PC) and am in the first chapter of Max Payne 2(PC).... considering i also just finsihed DOOM 3 (Xbox but i played it on an X360) and about halfway through Condemned(X360)... the scare factor of a max payne movie as well as the 'trip out' factor... what can i say? ?? This: if i was a chick i would say "I'm WET with anticipation!"
wow! An Alice movie! So cool, I wanna watch that so badly. Since the director is related to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which i heard was a gory movie) then I'll probably enjoy the Alice movie and be creeped out with it!
Well, I think if max payne goes to screens a lot will go watch it. But i hope it will contain all the good features like max payne 2 had-if max payne goes to the big screen-
i loved playing alice. it was like nothing else i've ever played and i did manage to beat it. i hope they don't screw up on the movie. i've been waiting for years for this to come out.
HERE IT IZ FOLKS (or at least how it should be).........MICHAEL VARTAN AS MAX PAYNE!!!!!!!!! WHADDYA THINK?
Alice was one of thoes games I wish more people played. The game was great and I cant wait for the movie. I just hope she can look twisted enough. I'm sure they can get the world to look good enough, but I hope she can look twisted.
Well, with Michelle Gellar playing as Alice, I'm pretty sure the entire movie will be a bunch of stuttering, emotionless crybaby garbage. Way to ruin an experience!
noo not sarah michelle g... booo :( That third-rate actress already ruined the movie for me. Too bad the game and it's wicked universe kicked ass.
Max Payne would be awesome if they are able to exude the level of complexity that the games do. I debated throughout the entire games whether my character was really doing everything I was seeing or if I was just inside the mind of an delusional person.
I've been waiting on The Alice movie for a long time now. It's good to finally hear some new news on it. The game was incredible. I never got a chance to beat it, but it was good.
All they have to do with Max Payne is adapt the scripts of the two games, put them together, and make one movie out of it. I mean, it's film noir, it pretty much already is a movie.
IF they can convince say... JOHN WOO to direct Max Payne, it will have the right kind of flair and style. Hands down, John Woo really perfected the shoot-em-up movie with things like The Killer, Hard Boiled and the A Better Tomorrow series that inspired so many emulators like The Matrix.
Unfortunately I see them ruining anything Max Payne tried to establish as a well crafted story. Max Payne 2 was an incredible game. I hope it doesn't end up looking like Dick Tracy.
RIght now I'm just obsessing over Silent Hill. That movie better not dissapoint, it looks so awesome. I could care less about Max Payne, but Alice could be interesting if done right. I think that's the key to everymovie based on a game they gatta do it right, or not at all... meaning no Boll.
It will not work, they never do. They just look at what games have been popular and hoping that the movie adoption will be big because of the game, and that's why they turn up crap. They always have B actors because the top class actors turn down the scripts because it's a poor script. All that will happen in the movie will be some guy blowing they crap out of everything in the cheesiest way and the only resemble of the game will be the name of the character and the title of the movie 'Max Payne'
Hahaha... Hmmm i' am agree with tshack5188 about the Alice movie.. About Max Payne ok....Just maybe but i prefer it on game instead...Make a new Max Payne 3.. See what happens about the movie...
SMG is one of the worst actress they could cough up for this role. Maybe they should get that girl in the tape from Ring
Really? Sarah Michelle Gellar? Is she right for the huge character she would have to portray? I thought that was a very original game, so the movie better do it justice, unlike some other game to movie transitions.
the guy in sin city....with the ugly face looking for goldies killer.......would be perfect for a max payne....also has an intrest in jackets''like max
it would be awsome if the third project in the works is a movie based on a grand theft auto script....but dont make this big'' just saying max payne owned by rockstar...and the third movie not mentioned based on a game
I'm wonder if max payne movie have slow-mo like it did in the game. It pretty if it use like matrix-style bullet action sequence
Dont bother... Dont even buy the ticket. It's going to end up like crap just like the rest of them.... NEXT!
The fact that Christina Ricci's weird looking and like a child in an adult's body makes her perfect for Alice. In the meantime, Keifer Sutherland's perfect as Max Payne, I agree...
Christina Ricci is too weird looking. It's like a child with an adults body. Meanwhile I would rather Christina Ricci as Sarah Michelle Gellar is just too damn fugly and annoying.
Errm I'm not quite sure how I feel about Sarah Michelle Gellar playing Alice... but hey! We're finially gettting Alice!! F'n right! I can't wait!
well noir but not a movie that sucked like sin city. and yah a 3rd game would be nice but aint rockstar got there hands full enough now?
There are way too many unknowns about each movie to tell whether they will be good or not. I can give the benefit of the doubt to the director of Alice, as I was unimpressed with the Texas CM. Max Payne has the potential to be good, but it will all come down to who's directing and starring in it. The story in MP just isn't original enough.
