I just bought PES 2011, after being disappointed with their games for this generation console I am finally happy. The graphics could still be better and missing some licenses is a major concern. But this game has still beats FIFA as far as gameplay. FIFA has good gameplay because it is responsive but the PES has a natural fluidity where there is just so much more you can do and it feels more life like.
Konami's revamped soccer sim now just $30 on Xbox 360 and PS3; 3DS and Wii cost remains unchanged at $40.
Soccer fans looking to get on the virtual pitch can now do so more cheaply, thanks to Konami. Today, the publisher announced that it is lopping $20 off the cost of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Both versions of the E-for-Everyone rated game will now cost just $30, with the PlayStation 2 edition costing just $20. All other versions of the game will retain their usual pricing, with the Wii and 3DS editions remaining $40 each. The move comes following similar price drops in Europe earlier this month.
Released last October to solid reviews, the game was billed as "the most radical revamp" of the Pro Evolution Soccer series to date. It introduced a power bar that gave gamers more precision in placing their passes and shots on the net. It also sports a reworked AI system, making it so passes no longer automatically hit their intended target.
The game, which features Argentine wunderkind and current FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi as its cover star, also saw the addition of the Master League Online mode, which caters to clubhouse managers. The mode lets soccer fans bid against other players to secure the world's top talent in an effort to build the best squad.
With PES 2011, the franchise featured the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club football competition, for the first time. The most recent iteration also sports expanded options for the Europa and Champions League, as well as increased difficulty settings. It is a shame what they did with the stellar Winning Eleven series. Thing is, PES has a great look to it. I don't mean player models and graphics, but the flow of the game is more reminiscent of the real game than FIFA 11, BUT, the PES series is riddled with frustrating flaws and right now FIFA is easily the superior franchise. EA made real steps with FIFA 11 in fixing a lot of the things that made FIFA 10 annoying to play. FIFA is also about a mile deeper in terms of game modes, roster updates, and licensing. I used to get both, but PES has a long way to go before I reconnect with the franchise.
But still, overall experience it pawn FIFA 11. For old timer football gamers, they know FIFA start to implement bad business style to dominate the industry. Go read about FIFA licensing and especially the Bundesliga. Oh, btw FIFA start copying PES/WE gameplay since the beginning of the metered shot/ powered shot & cross. I bet the next edition they will copy PES/WE nice and neat tactical gameplan.
I only mad at the silly fouls call and the referee. Whenever you play online, be prepared to face someone that resorted on hard tackle. You can get tackled and send flying from above and side, but in the referee books it's ok. Sometime you get tackled from behind and still nothing happen. And sometime you execute a perfectly sliding tackle inside your own penalty box to stop your opponent from racing to your goal but the referee straight away point to the spot.
@Valinor85 Once you get the better players on your team, the gameplay gets a little better. The fouls and offsides calls in this game were absolutely ridiculous though, especially after the goalie on the opposing team punts it. The players just stay up and hangout behind the last defender for no reason. The WORST is when they run up and clap after a player shoots the ball right to the goalie...so stupid.
I have to admit that this game wasn't the greatest (gameplay-wise), but Konami stepped up the different game modes and beefed them up a bit. The user-interface was pretty nice too, as well as the changes made to the Master League. The problems lie in the fouls/offsides calls, the lack of licenses (still, which is going to be the death of the series soon), and the threat of FIFA. New comers to the soccer video game genre prefer FIFA, since they can play as their favorite team and because it feels more like an arcade style of play, compared to the realism and realistic feel that soccer has with PES.
blackace.......Yh only because the fairies that play NFL wear padding for safety. What would be a better match up is Rugby players vs NFL seeing as how NFL is a watere3d down version of Rugby, Rugby is for real men, NFL is for fairies scared of getting hurt!
blackace haah you just dont get it. nevermind. you are talking non sence. mixing fat people that play american football that the only thing the know is to crash themselves with each other .. with real football players that use strategy, thinking and hability. you obviously dont know what sport is. you are probably a lifeless nerd that only plays halo. shame on you. go to the gym, get a girlfriend, do something kid.
@eze_sl89 im from argentina and i call this sport futbol, not soccer, soccer is a northamerican invention. i dont know what soccer is, thats a joke. ************************************************************ I would love American NFL Football players to play again International futbol players. That would be interesting. There would be a lot of injuries for the Intern'l players, that for sure. Real football is a mans game. I'm not paying $40 for it on any platform. I was going to get the 3DS version, but I'll wait for the price to drop below $20 on Ebay.

Man this game blows. The AI make no runs when your on the ball and are constantly offside for no reason (ie. header forward from a goal-kick or a free-kick). This shooting is kinda hard but I think FIFA 11 would be undisputed if it worked on all platforms equally (mainly PC and PSP). I mean seriously the PC version of FIFA 11 is the same as FIFA 10 for the consoles.
For those of you arguing about "soccer" vs. "football": The term "soccer" was actually started in England as a way to differentiate between Rugby Football and Association Football. Assoc Football became "soccer." It is not an American term, though it is most widely used in the USA.
really, I'm done with PES with the current edition. PES used to trump FIFA, but it seems that pride does come before downfall. While PES getting more and more mediocre, FIFA has been improving year by year. FIFA 11 really took the cake this year, and unless PES do something radical next year, FIFA will be the undisputed franchise of the football game. However, the only thing that PES excels is the platform consistency; PES on every console delivers consistent performance (engine, look-and-feel), while FIFA is very focused on PC, X360 and PS3 (the PSP version sucks big time; I play PES on my PSP).
eze_sl89 "FIFA is just for kids or Halo fanboys who dont know a thing about sports." What a hilarious comment, i play for my local side and you seem to think people who play FIFA know nothing of the sport lol lol lol....i know a damned sight more about FOOTBALL than you ever will. Why do you even think they are dropping the price? Because its the only way they can compete with FIFA. So why don't you run along and play baseball,Grid iron or whatever other British originated sports you call your national game lol. PS. There is no such thing as the British league, its English (Premiership) or Scottish League (SFA)!
Wii 2 rumours, Wii price drop, GTA5 rumours, PS3 law suites, Guitar Hero's zombie like attitude, E3 announcments....and then this? wow, talk about not fitting into the hype
Cheaper games are always a good game but for me the PES games lost their Magic after PES3 and 4 after that they started getting worse and worse whereas the FIFA games where getting better.
its a great oportunity for those who still dont have the game. PES 2011 is the best football game up to date. PES is not a cheap sport game such as FIFA. Its a real simulation game. Anyone who defends FIFA is because they dont know anything about football at all. The only negative flaw that prevents PES for being perfect are the licences of the British league. Other than that, this game is a a masterpiece that shouldnt be missed by any real soccer fan. FIFA is just for kids or Halo fanboys who dont know a thing about sports.
i had fifa but got rid as it was soooooo boreing evey games the same. online borein . so got this and at last iv got a good football game
now its too late and too lame ... make a better game and i pay 60 for a game that entertains me for a year long ... like fifa 11 .
Dunno why i got thumbs down.. i never saw price reduction article on GS news section before, or maybe because i spelled "paid" wrong?
I was a die hard PES fan, but then this year, after beating my head against the wall, I decided to try Fifa and oh man, I don't regret it a bit. I hope though that Konami can improve for this year, cuz they're way behind EA's soccer game.
The game is terrible, even with all the custom patches that are made for it. It is a huge step back from almost any previous installment. The shooting is insane and the AI is just stupid, the defense doesnt know how to stand its ground and the forward players rarely make a run (some custom patches improve this). I just hope they listen to the community and fix things up for the next PES12. Cheers !
Great game, got it last october, created my own league, names, players, emblems, and got the official player names and spent some time changing them from e.g. Palm-Pele, overall a great game. Licensing with me isnt as big a deal as gameplay, but hopefully they can score some new licenes in the future. 9/10
thats bs they didnt drop wii 3ds version must mean somthing demand is higher on those two versions lol not that i cared
Guess I should have traded mine in last week before the price drop. It's an alright game on some aspects but FIFA 11 got the better of them this year despite all the bugs that EA didn't fix.
Already got one and loving it. Nice improvements on almost all fronts, just need more license from more teams.

PES 12 may lack new modes, but substantial improvements to its AI, speed, and controls make it an exciting football game that's a lot of fun to play.
