Prey 2 reportedly canceled

Bethesda offers no comment on claims that Human Head's first-person shooter sequel has been scrapped.

Prey 2 may never see the light of day. Dutch site PSFocus is reporting that multiple reliable sources have told it the game has been canceled by publisher Bethesda Softworks.

When contacted by GameSpot, a Bethesda representative said the company had no comment on the report.

Bethesda Softworks first announced that it had enlisted developer Human Head to create the first-person shooter sequel last year. A trio of Prey 2 presentations had been scheduled for this month's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, but those were canceled by Bethesda prior to the event.

The game was announced as having a new protagonist (also an alien abductee) and a variety of gameplay adjustments. The developers had planned to ditch multiplayer in favor of a focused single-player campaign, and eschewed the discrete levels of the original in favor of an open-world format. Additionally, players could take a variety of approaches to solve their problems, from using brute force to more diplomatic means.
