i dont understand....some games get so far and then they say its bad or whatever and trash all they have...why not just keep what u have and use minimum resources to finish the game....no point scrapping year or so of work....
Human Head designer says upcoming first-person shooter not canceled, but its fate uncertain.
Prey 2 is in limbo. That's according to Human Head lead level designer Nathan Cheever, who said recently over Twitter that the upcoming first-person shooter has not been canceled, but its fate has yet to be determined.
Cheever's comments follow word from publisher Bethesda in April, when it was confirmed the game was not canceled, but would not ship in 2012 due to "quality issues."
A Bethesda representative told GameSpot, "We don't have an update on Prey 2. Will let you know when we do."
Bethesda first announced that it had enlisted developer Human Head to create the first-person shooter sequel last year, building around a new alien abductee protagonist and a variety of gameplay adjustments. The developers had planned to ditch multiplayer in favor of a focused single-player campaign, and eschewed the discrete levels of the original in favor of an open-world format. Additionally, players could take a variety of approaches to solve their problems, from using brute force to more diplomatic means.

Not so surprising considering the first one wasn't great and didn't have a huge fanbase. But they had the nerve to release quite a few duds in the last few years that were clearly terrible, can't see why they wouldn't take a risk on this one or at least try to improve it. Maybe they could send some of their developers over.
We get so many crappy games and then when a game is showing so much promise, it gets canceled !!! But there is a glimpse of hope after all, hope Bethesda goes all the way to deliver a great game.
@Venom_Raptor Yeah, "focused single-player campaign", "open-world" and "variety of approaches", that's what I call promising. Too bad it's in limbo (just like the first Prey. Franchise curse?), but at least it hasn't yet fallen Prey to cancellation.
Looks lime Prey 2 is one of those games that's outreached it's grasp unfortunately.
It really did have the makings of a great game but something's gone wrong somewhere here.
WTF are Bethesda playing at?
Damn this sucks to hear. The trailer and E3 footage from 2011 looked fantastic. I really hope they fix it up and get it released.
I have played the first Prey and thought is was really great, so I'm looking forwar to the second game I really hope they do not cancel it.
Problems with quality issues ! sounds bad to me . I guess no pre-order ( but i would never pre-order anyway , people pre-order and then wonder why there is no innovation in games anymore . Maybe it is because people pre-order the same crap over and over and why change it if you are making millions . DLC is pretty much the same , and we wonder why most campaign are less than 10-15 hours ) We bitch a lot but do not realize that we are voting with our money so stop the pre-order craze just so you can have a gun, car, map that most people will not have , Buy only quality dlc like most of what Rockstar does. ( but not l.a noire the dlc was stuff that should have stayed on the cutting room floor ) then maybe we can stop bitching about EA ,Activision and the likes milking us for everything we have . Just saying .
@joce667 I wouldn't jump to conclusions so soon. Remember how Sleeping Dogs turned out?
@joce667 I personally just pre-order to have the game on day one and when I do pre-order I usually pre-order way before any day one announcement and I also don't really care about the day one dlc I do not use them or use the code but never use the item anyway.
well I hope they make this!
the first prey was one of my first 360 titles(when i played 360.) it was a fantastic game! the portals were a great concept, the story was good, game play was fun.
it was my first game as well..
i highly enjoyed it...
i am still looking forward to this game...
i really hope they make it
I'm starting to wonder if they want to make money. People obviously want the damn game. Make it. Sell it. Boo Bam.
Prey is one of the most underrated, badass shooters ever made. I always find myself sighing a groan of annoyance when some self-proclaimed "gamer" derides it for bringing nothing new to the table, or some such nonsense. If you haven't played it, you should, and if you are excited for Prey 2 and haven't played it you are probably what is wrong with gaming today.
@wavelength121 So being excited for a game is what's wrong with gaming today? I think I understand what you're trying to say, but it doesn't make much sense in this case. Prey just doesn't look like Prey 2. I want to play Prey 2, because I liked what I saw in the videos and interviews about the game. I also watched a lot on the first Prey, but it just didn't do it for me.
You also should understand everybody is different. Why do you care if some people don't like or play Prey? To each their own.
If anyone is wondering, the 'quality issues' are basically that through a quirk in the contract for the first Prey, Human Head owns the rights to the IP. This time they signed an exlusive contract with Bethesda so they can't publish it anywhere else, but Beth won't publish it until they sign over the rights to the IP itself so if it wanted to it could fire the entire team and hire someone else to make the third Prey for cheaper if the second does well.
Beth is essentially holding the game hostage since thanks to the contract they can't take it to any other publisher. The game is gold right now, ready to ship. It's just Beth holding it up until Human Head gives in.
I hope they don't even if it costs us the game. Fuck Bethesda. They haven't made a good game since Morrowind and everybody responsible for that game already left. Bioware 2.0.
@DrYnot you post is bad. you should feel bad.
@DrYnot even if this was truly the case, Human Head signed the contract and therefor put themselves into this position.. no one to blame but themselves.
also.. Skyrim, Rage, Dishonored and Fall Out are all great games. If you think they are not than you must be a person that can never be pleased.
Really? That is a stupid a** desision i saw the e3 2011 demo thats a high production game, d*** good graphics and alot of character animation (all the ways you can interact with environment and s***) takes alot of f****** money, D*** I was looking forward to that game too... yet s*** like COD comes out every F****** year. Sorry about ***** bull s*** doing this on my f****** IPhone touch keyboard does'nt work worth s*** so I have to use Siri and she is a f****** c*** I will never buy a IPhone, again biggest piece of s*** i ever bought for $200.
The game has a lot of potential, but it feels a little "dumbed down" to fit current hardware. They should go next gen, take those chase sequences and level verticallity to the next level.
Losing her, WE'RE LOSING HER! Give me some room! Tom! hand me the defibrillators!
God damn it LIVE!
That's unfortunate. I was looking forward to this one. It doesn't mean it's necessarily completely out for the count, but it might as well be.
When the first images and news about this came out, a couple of years back, I was really pleased with the few details shown, even if it was obvious from the beginning that it would be a mistake to call it Prey 2. When recently we heard it had been postponed for quality issues, it became obvious it would never see the light of day. At least not in the way it was first presented. When you use a name of a previous IP as your only means to call some attention to what your doing and deliver nothing of the original, you basically neglect anyone who might have liked the original, and make yourself a prime target for all kinds of criticism if even the slightest thing goes wrong. I thought after Syndicate no one wou do like ld try it again. Maybe they should do like True Crime Hong -Kong, change the name of the game, cut ties with the original producers and deliver the game they want to, with it's own name.
Ah that's a pitty, I was hoping this would be shown again at the Tokyo Game show but sadly isn't the way. I hope good things for it from now on, one of the best looking games when it was shown, still is in my opinion.
I still find it hard to believe that the company that released Rogue Warrior is having concerns about quality assurance. This game must be in absolutely terrible shape. Shame because it has great potential. Here's to hoping it pulls through.
if Bethesda said Prey 2 has some quality issue,, then I believe the game is seriously broken.
because as far as I can remember most Bethesda games are bugged as hell,, and it's considered as quality products by Bethesda. **sarcasm**
@Ladiesman17 Not really. Remember the devs pretty much went on strike because of the crappy contract that Bethesda forced on them. Soon after, Bethesda released a statement saying the game didn't meet their quality standards. To me, that seems like Bethesda hitting back like a child having a temper tantrum by trying to hurt the developers pride.
I doubt the game was in bad condition. It is more likely Bethesda was just throwing dirt around.
