jasonzilla11@ : Off course it matters! When you like a game enough to say that it's one of the best things you ever did, it's nice to see that most people actually agree with you. I'm not actually going to actually end my gaming if portal 2 doesn't get nominated for GOTY, but I just think it deserves a lot.
Square Enix and Airtight Games showing off Kim Swift's next project during Saturday panel at Seattle-based gaming convention.
The question of how one makes a follow-up to the breakout 2007 hit Portal has already been answered once, as Valve released Portal 2 to critical acclaim earlier this year. It will be answered a second time this week, as Square Enix has confirmed that it will be debuting the next game from Portal lead developer Kim Swift at this year's Penny Arcade Expo.
Square Enix has a Saturday panel scheduled in which Swift and the rest of the Airtight Games development team will present their game, which the publisher is describing as "incredibly fascinating and quirky." Swift is serving as creative director on the project.
Swift has also previously worked on Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Airtight Games is best known for Capcom's jetpack-powered third-person shooter Dark Void.
The Square Enix-Airtight panel is set for 7 p.m. Saturday in the Pegasus Room at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The Penny Arcade Expo, also commonly known as PAX Prime, will run August 26 through August 28. Although the show is generally open to the public, badges to attend the show sold out in May.
Speaking of Half-Life... what happened to Half-Life Episode 3? is that game cancelled? Ep.2 was epic...
@Jedilink109 I just can't help to think of Half-life as soon as I hear Portal :( I know it's different developers but they'e allllways gona be linked in my mind.
It always scares me when a game is originally hyped up because the creator worked on another popular game. It reminds me of the movies (that turn out to be crap) whose trailers start off with "From the creators of ABC, and the director of XYZ, comes an all new.....".
This developer didn't make Half-life 2 you guys. Calm down. They won't be the ones making Half-life 3...
Balls balls balls. Whenever I hear Portal I automatically just think of Half Life 2.. Therefore as soon as I read 'Portal Developer's next game' I thought "Ahhhhhhhh Half Life 3!!!!". I seriously need to stop getting so excited.
@Leir_Bag Who really cares what gets game of the year besides the developers and producers? Yes, Portal 2 was amazing. But whether or not it gets GOTY, I don't care.
Well, Portal was awesome, but was kind off the only thing that Swift ever did that I really liked. I mean, she did some other cool stuff, but they're all just nice. Not awesome.(she's not the one responsable for Portal 2) Still, I guess it might be good, this new game. Anyway, if Portal 2 doesn't get nominated for game of the year, then I'm done with my gaming. Actually, it should win the damn contest. Freaking thing is just perfect.
@namdar Kim Swift was the lead developer on Portal, and she left Valve in 2009. gamespot.com/6242606
@namdar: Kim Swift worked on the first Portal, but she left Valve in 2009 to work for Airtight Games. This studio is doing the game mentioned in this article, game that will be published by Square Enix.
Probably shouldn't have mentioned Dark Void. Up until that point I was incredibly impressed with Kim Swift. I guess everyone makes mistakes. I'm still impressed... Portal and Portal 2 are just that good.
