Platinum Games wants to take its titles to PC

Creator of Bayonetta and Anarchy Reigns wants to release upcoming games through Valve's Steam service and also start Kickstarter pages for future projects.

Platinum Games, the developer behind Bayonetta and the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and The Wonderful 10, seem keens to expand its game-making talent beyond consoles.

According to an article from Polygon, the company's executive director, Atsushi Inaba, said that it's interested in creating games for the PC and publishing them through Valve's Steam downloadable games service. It also plans to fund its upcoming projects via Kickstarter. "We haven't released anything on Steam yet, or any PC games for that matter, so I'm not in a position to encourage other people to do so. However, I used to belong to a big publisher [Capcom]. And if you're at a big publisher, business gets carried on just seeing your game on console. Many publishers don't view PC as an important platform."

He views the PC market as an area with huge potential. "If you think about the console market in Japan and compare it to the world, it's not that big." The director recently visited Steam and Half-Life creator Valve during the PAX Prime video game convention in Seattle. What he was allowed to speak about at this point in time was that the company was open-minded, as well as its future goals and company direction.

In related news, the company also told Polygon that it is also interested in Nintendo's 3DS. Inaba said that he views it as a proper evolution of an already-successful device. "Being able to view stereoscopic 3D with the naked eye is a great innovation, but very straightforward, so I'm very interested in it. Currently we have a lot of titles in development, and we can't fund a 3DS game ourselves. So there's nothing in the works. But I'm very positive on it."

Platinum Games is currently working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, The Wonderful 101, and Bayonetta 2. For more information on the first game, check out GameSpot's recent impressions on the Tokyo Game Show 2012 build.

I bought their games on console and then built a new gaming pc and tossed the console out. This news is fantastic! I hope its just not all talk. I can only dream of playing Bayonetta on HD 3D Vision (if only).

Here's hoping it's portable, console titles don't often survive the transplant.

Probably still no chance of Bayonetta 2 on PC. Sigh.

@yomonkey I imagine them being hired to produce Bayonetta 2 has a lot to do with why they aren't in full production for a Bayonetta PC version.

Umm, yes please. Platinum has made some fantastic games and to have them on PC, hell, Steam even, would make me very happy.

Oh waw...I have ended reading about little disappointment about Bayonetta in newer news and expressed my sadness about not having this game for PC, as I am PC player. And now this. IF Bayonetta makes it to the PC, I will be very Happy. Last game I really enjoyed in this genre was DMC3 and that is some time...

You'll add save-anywhere options to the games, right Plat?  And 3 monitor support?  And 3D Vision?  Ooo, and maybe that new head mounted display do-dad!

i wonder if nintendo's exclusivity rights to bayonetta 2 is only for consoles. if thats the case then perhaps others like me who havent planned on getting the wii-u yet could get it on pc instead.

More PC attention from game developers is always welcome.

I already beat Vanquish on PS3, but I would love a PC version.  That game needs more exposure.

Steam?! Just release the games DRM free and with a boxed option.

Well, obviously not Bayonetta 2, though. Regardless, this is good.

wow this is interesting! I hope they put the wonderful 101 on pc because I was seriously going to buy a wii U just for that game.

Do it! I don't want to buy the Wii U.

Bayonetta 2 won't be ported anywhere else. Nintendo is helping Platinum develop Bayonetta 2 so that pretty much will completely prevent it from hitting any other platform.

Platinum is looking at more ways to be profitable, more power to them.

@Sardinar In case you haven't noticed, PC gaming is as swollen a mass as ever, and is on the rise.

Console gaming on the other hand...

@Sardinar Yea the poor old pc where games like league of legends pulls in over a billion hours of playtime in one year (compared to halo that hit 2billion online hours after 7 years).

@Sardinar However regardless of which is what, why are we even talking about pc vs console? We, gamers, should be happy that they may release games on both console and pc, making games exclusive only hurts gamers.

@Sardinar the poor old pc pisses all over the shity old consoles

Also I really do hope they will port Metal Gear Revengeance to the PC as well as it was originally intended by Kojima before he outsourced the project to Platinum. It would be a lil bit late to bring bayonetta and vanquish to the PC thou but MGS Revengeance would be sweet sweet :D

Printul_Noptii

Great, great news :D I hope they will make decent PC ports the same quality as Capcom and I am also glad they want to bring it to Steam instead of GFWL which is bad beyond redemption...

@zakkaz666 You have a complain that the next Bayonetta will be exclusive, take it out whit Sega, they are the ones who didn't want to invest in the game to began. At least someone is giving Platinum Games money to create their projects.

@MrDoomLWest  @zakkaz666 Sega was working with PG on Beyonetta 2 until they ran into financial problems and had to put several projects on hold. It's not like they intentionally wanted to stop making Bayonetta 2
