Adaptation of Capcom's court drama adventure to be out in 2012; stars voice actor from Yakuza 4.
Earlier this week, rumors were swirling about a Phoenix Wright movie being directed by Takashi Miike, known for directing movies like Gozu and Audition. Now, Capcom has officially confirmed the rumor.
The movie will feature the game's main protagonist Phoenix Wright, his rival Miles Edgeworth, and spirit medium Maya Fey. Phoenix Wright will be played by Hiroki Narimiya, who not only starred in Japanese movies like Lala Pipo and Drop but also lent his voice and likeness in the PlayStation 3 game Yakuza 4 to portray corrupt cop Masayoshi Tanimura. Miles will be played by Takumi Saito, who recently starred as Yamamoto in the live-action movie adaptation of Space Battleship Yamato. Phoenix Wright's assistant will be played by Mirei Kiritani, who has starred in Japanese movies like Kimi ni Todoke. Takashi Miike is set to direct the film, which is scheduled for an early spring 2012 release in Japan.
The Ace Attorney video games (Gyakuten Saiban in Japan) are a series of adventure games where players control a defense attorney named Phoenix Wright as he defends his clients via cross-examinations and investigates cases together with spirit medium Maya Fey. The most recent entry in the series was the Japanese version of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2 (Gyakuten Kenji 2).
@Units420 There is a new Phoenix Wright game in the works. Its for the 3DS but its a crossover spin off with Professor Leyton. I want a brand new Phoenix Wright game, perhaps set after Apollo Justice as Phoenix gets his attorney badge back. Or perhaps... I don't know. Can we just forget Apollo Justice ever happened and Phoenix didn't lose his attorney badge? That was one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had in any game ever.
What would you all mostly like for Phoenix Wright: A.)A movie? B.)An anime series? C.)An anime movie? D.)All of the above?
Only Anime Freaks would be excited for this movie. Hey at least PW wont make a appearence in MVC3. Anime Sucks.
seriously?? they are willing to support a live action movie and yet they can't support a simple localization of the game? at this point i'm considering just getting the fanlation of the game and ignoring the official release even if it does come to north america...
Objection! This will probably blow.... but who am I kidding, I'm so gonna watch it. The Phoenix games are awesome-o
Ah, Takashi Miike, a man I respect and hate in equal measure, Yatterman was a sweet movie, wish he'd make a sequel to that.
Haha, should be interesting. It's been a while since I saw Audition, but it's a movie I've always remembered for the slow way it builds tension.
Oh, YES! *punches air* Been waiting for this all my life. I'll learn Japanese if I have to. Although I gotta say I hope they don't ruin it with any of that gory violent crap that is so characteristic of Jap movies...
Hey Capcom, if the movie does well, use the profits to localize Edgeworth 2 instead of stranding it in Japan. Seriously. I want to give you my money and you're not letting me.
Oh man, this is going to be a crazy movie. I'm glad Japan is doing it, and not the U.S. Phoenix Wright demands some of that "Oh Japan...." mentality.
I can't watch this movie, 'cause I will be screaming "OBJECTIOON!!" on the theater and everyone will look at me like I'm some sicko and I will have to leave the room in embarassment! lol
Takashi Miike is directing? Maybe the movie will end with Phoenix being attacked by his lover, who puts sedatives in his liquor then sticks needles in his eyes and partially dismembers him with a wire saw.
Well... could be cool. Honestly I have a feeling its gonna come out pretty cheesy. Hopefully in a good way. I was looking up the actors and, to me, they don't look even remotely like any of the characters form the game, but I guess that'd be pretty hard to pull of in such a cartoony game. Still, as long as there's table slapping and Objections, how bad can it be?
@rustymenon I appreciate you using the same joke twice with different setups. Really, that was hilarious. Do you write for SNL?
@JustPlainLucas: They listed the name of actors in this article so its live action. I was hoping for anime, like the Layton movie.
Phoenix Wright is probably one of the only games can see becoming a movie. I mean, they can make just a couple of cases and that way the movie would turn out great and not overstuffed.
