Phantasy Star Online 2 launches in the West next year

Sega bringing free-to-play continuation of online action role-playing series to North America and Europe sometime in 2013.
Gamers in the West will soon be able to try out Sega's new free-to-play sequel to one of its oldest franchises, as the publisher today confirmed that Phantasy Star Online 2 will launch in North America and Europe next year.
Phantasy Star Online 2 will see a return of the series' real-time combat system, with players able to level up characters of three races (human, newmen, or CAST) through a variety of classes, specializing in melee, ranged, or magical weapons. Sega did not announce platforms for the Western release of the game, but the Japanese edition launched last week on the PC and is slated to appear on the PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android platforms.
The original Phantasy Star Online launched on the Dreamcast in January of 2001 and was followed eight months later by a "version 2" release with online play that required a quarterly subscription fee. Other follow-ups to the original have included the 2004 GameCube effort Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution, as well as 2006's Phantasy Star Revolution, which came out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC.

I loved all that Phantasy star has out on the market. Was rather disappointed that They shut down the servers and the Sony took Phantasy star portable of the play station store. How ever making the new Phantasy star for the PC and Playstation vita was a good move to also add a cherry on top they are making it free. I for one am looking forward to this game coming to the UK.
i hate the fact i love this game but the problem is that my computer sucks and its not for xbox.
PSO and free to play.Transfer all your accounts from tera to PSO2.I always wondered why Tera claims its has its own combat system.PSO Universe always had action rpg combat with free aiming.It also has giant monsters and awesome weapons.
2 Like It it was like the old DREAMCAST days and I can use a controller for the PC version I am defo in for this, I was addicted to the DC version and the re release on the GameCube for months

If they go back to the old TP system and the old magic system then I'm all for it. If you can level up the techs instead of having to hunt for higher level versions... even better.
As much as I love how it will be free to play, I would still LOVE a downloadable console port. Not having a computer that is good enough to run this game, limiting me to the iOS version, means ill have to wait for a console release, assuming if they decide on one
@Neo-ganon Currently. There are no plans on the table for a DLC console port to PSN and XBLA. It all depends on how well the PC western release does.
1 Like I spent countless hours on Dreamcast,later on Xbox and at the end on Game Cube on private server.But i am sad to hear that right now only PC and Vita versions are confirmed.I dont have a gaming PC and the Vita cannot be hooked on a TV like the PSP! Wanna big screen PSO again...c'mon Sega. Ah memories...my best found was a Yasminkov 7000V/35% on hit...GameCube :)

1 Like I will certainly pick this up when it comes out. Not sure if I will go for the PC version or PS Vita, but I suppose I have time to decide. ^_^
1 Like @HawkAnimus Im in the same boat. Likely the PC version will be out sooner in NA. Maybe we should just get it for both when its released on Vita and PC here next year!!

1 Like after phantasy star blue burst and phantasy star universe both had short life i'm not sure if i'd buy it right away. sega likes to pull the plug fast on PSO or least seems like it.
@Crevox free or not i want see how it will do before buying PSO servers seem to have short lives. i loved PSO blue burst and PSU so i am interested but want play it years down the road.
1 Like @LindBergh2007 The article itself says free to play. I'm alt tabbed OUT OF THE JP VERSION RIGHT NOW and it's FREE TO PLAY. I don't know what makes you think you know otherwise.
Phantasy Star Revolution? You mean Phantasy Star Universe.
You also forgot about the port of PSO to gamecube and Xbox called PSO: Ep1 & 2, And PSO blue burst that was for PC.
By the way, this article has problems. It's not Phantasy Star Revolution, it's Phantasy Star Universe. You also forgot Phantasy Star Online BlueBurst for PC.
I'm kinda hoping they bring this to the Xbox 360 (or other consoles) again. Anyone know if this is planned already?
1 Like @LindBergh2007 lol if your going to attempt to act like you know everything at least keep up with the news. The Vita version was confirmed a while ago.
