Peter Gabriel to tune up Ages Beyond Myst

By Tor Thorsen

Veteran composer/performer to sing for Ubisoft; joins Uru team.

After making music for dozens of films, Peter Gabriel is now singing for games. The multiplatinum singer and former Genesis front man has agreed to contribute a new song, "Burn You Up, Burn You Down," for the November 11 release of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, the latest installment in Cyan's multimillion-selling Myst series. Gabriel will also pen an original composition for the next, as-yet-untitled, Myst game.

In a statement, Gabriel praised Myst for being a different kind of game. "I thought it succeeded well in creating a feeling of other worlds in which mystery and imagination were the compelling elements instead of the usual action-packed shoot-'em-ups," he said in a statement.

While such words may sound like mere hype, Gabriel has long been fascinated by technology. His WOMAD world music festival pioneered the use of new media at concerts in the 1990s. Gabriel is also no stranger to soundtracks, having penned instrumental scores for more than 10 films, including Birdy, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Gangs of New York. His songs have appeared in a dozen more, including Vanilla Sky and, most famously, Say Anything.
