The latest soccer title in Konami's critically acclaimed Pro Evolution series will be coming this autumn, with a new AI system and editing options for next-gen machines.
Hot on the heels of the announcement that football game series FIFA would be kicking off again this autumn, Konami has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer will also be shooting into stores once more later in the year.
The latest game in the series, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and the DS--although noticeably not the Wii.
New for this edition of PES is a new proprietary adaptive artificial intelligence system called Teamvision, which promises to learn and adapt according to the individual gamer's style of play, and build defence strategies in reaction.
A number of improvements have been made to the latest incarnation of the game, most notably an extensive Edit mode for all next-gen versions, more control while dribbling the ball, and high-definition detail including full facial animation. One of the major criticisms of the previous incarnation of PES on the Xbox 360 was that gamers had only minimal editing options, which only served to emphasise the lack of official licences in the game.
Konami said in a statement about the new game, "[Teamvision AI] will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements and previous attacking or defensive errors, ensuring games are more in line with the tactical but flowing nature of the real thing."
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is due for release in autumn, the same time period as FIFA 08 is currently slated to ship.

Cant wait for this game, Fifa is a waste of time and money.. gonna be great though, anyone know if its online?
Been playing this game since ISS Pro on PS1. Tried FIFA but apart from the licensed stuff it doesn't even come close, and t be honest every new version of FIFA becomes more like Pro-Evo anyway. I know where my cash is going. Gameplay over licenses every time
Pro evo rocks! Cnt wait for this game, by far the most realistic football (soccer) game ever. I used to feel the same way about fifa never missed a game from 95 all the way through to 2000 then i played PES n have never looked back. Fifa's got nothing on pro evo and never will have
At last I've been waiting for news of this game and from what I've seen it's going to be a gem of a football game.
jesus christ im glad to hear about this game. although 07 isnt what it shouldve been i still cant stop playing it. the team vision ai and return of in depth editing should be wonderful. on a side note i just got my ass handed to me by my japanese friend. i thought i was good. turns out i was only not horrible.
After Last Years Xbox360 Edition I Simply don't trust Konami Anymore, I Know the gameplay is Excellent but thats all the game has, there's nothing else to the game (greatest disappointment ever). This time round i'm going to check reviews and try the game out and not pre-order it a year before its release. One more thing, If the same game with slight tweaks is re-released, me and the guys are heading back to Fifa, thats for sure...
I used to be a fan of FIFA, but since I tried PES I had never turned back. Before I bought PES, I readed through tones of comments from many forums, and so I decided to buy PES thanks to people like you guys. For those of you who are still loyal to FIFA, there's nothing wrong trying out PES, just to find out what all the fuss is about. If you like it, then buy it, if not stick to FIFA. Afterall, we all want the most realistic simulation soccer game. I am a soccer player, and not as much a gamer, but I do find PES to be the most realistic game out there. Only problem is there's lack of licences. If there's more people buying PES, then maybe one day they will have the money to buy all the licences. Can't wait for this game to come out, so I can kick you guys arses on line! :) If not, then I am happy to get my arse kick. Either way, I can't wait...
I´m a latin american guy, so I KNOW about football(you guys call it "soccer"). Pes gameplay is way better than the one in Fifa, no doubt about it. And another thing, they are making a mistake leaving the Wii without a version of the game, the Nintendo Wii is very popular in here, and they are many potential buyers of the game, cause football is one of our biggest passions!
On the negative notes. PES/WE online play system is poor I have to admit it. The way the menu system and interaction is designed is not so intuitive. I don't know about FIFA as I have never bought the full game other than the demo.
Forgot to say that FIFA human movement (animation) is like anything but realistic. Don't you people agree that the way their bodies move looks unreal. Honestly I have been trying so hard to try to play FIFA but every their new installment can't bother me to buy their game. It is way too much out of par with PES/WE.
For those saying FIFA is the better one than PES/WE, I think you must be a soccer wannabee (and possibly idiot!). EA knows that there are still lots of soccer wannabee that they can reap the money from just by hiring graphics artists! BTW by definition the maker of PES creates it by heart, they know the true soccer. The maker of FIFA is in Canada! What do they know about soccer? Japan has been in World Cup so many times, what Canadian know about soccer? LOL
Sad but true I'm still at a loss as to why Nintendo didn't opt to make a high definition console. Stupid move in the long run. It's the age of High Definition... didn't they get the memo? BTW from a guy who's played Fifa since it was on the Game Gear I'm happy Konami is giving FIFA a run for their money. It pushes FIFA to improve instead of repackaging the same game over and over. Fifa is for U.S. soccer wannabes and PES is for the true football fanatic. It may not be polished graphically, but it's gameplay beats the hell out of FIFA in every aspect. word
agree nintendo wii cant handle enything exept older games in couple years nintendo wii will be outdated.
They should make a wii version, if nintendo is selling so well, why no make a wii version a wii than should be a best seller?
why wont they put the good graphics on the pc...same with fifa....WHY WHY WHY!?!? already had one year of dated ones.
"This will destroy Fifa. I cant wait" lol Have u seen the screen shots omg there bad. when will they make a true next gen PES game like FIFA have done not this ported with slightly cleaned up graphics. For my next gen football im sticking with fifa for now.
a new Pro Evo always seems to come about just at the perfect time. ou buy one, play the Master League to death for about 15 seasons (in game) till the year (in game) is about 2020, then they bring out a new one that's even better. It all sounds good to me. Bring it on chaps, time to get the Toon Army winning everything yet again (in game... again... :( ) :D
>>>>>> The latest game in the series, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, will be coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and the DS--although noticeably not the Wii. This really does not surprise me. Maybe it could work in countries where soccer has a better following but here in America kicking a Wii Remote, or maybe more to the point trying to, would only lead to lots of broken TVs and lawsuits. :D
What about this year's edition of football game? I'm tired of FIFA (thought it is good for me) and my friend keeps telling me PES owns. So I want to try it... but not with dated details and graphics...
Now the question is which console do you buy it for? Personally I think I'll be opting for the 360 version because I like listening to my own soundtrack when I'm playing PES. Unless there's something extremely better in the PS3 version, I think that I'm leaning towards the 360.
Nice.... But only if we had FIFA vs. PES debates here.. lol... for me.. PES pwns all football games.
I loved the previous version on the 360, this newer AI looks to be something fun and interesting. I say bring it!! More teams wouldn't hurt either....along with some online play with tourneys :)
ugh I hate Man U. Ronaldo is a little punk I'm glad Gattuso dominated him. Yes PES has always been a football fanatics game screw FIFA
Hey football_legend: I think that you above every one else should know that Milan is also guilty of game fixing. That game against Man U should of been a no brainer. Man U is obviously the superior team. And if Man U would have won that game they would have gone on to win the final as well. But FIFA does blow as far a soccer game. PES is much better than FIFA!
Its called Pro Evolution in America now because Konami thought "Winning Eleven 11" would sound a bit weird. but then again just appending the year to the end of the title would've been simpler..
