Sentai Filmworks secures rights to localize 25-episode show based on PS2 RPG; DVD and Blu-ray release set for next year, with streaming debut "soon."
Earlier this year, Japanese animation company Aniplex announced that an anime series based on the PlayStation 2 role-playing game Persona 4 was in production, and it was scheduled to air on October 6 in Japan. English-speaking fans can now celebrate, with Sentai Filmworks confirming this week that it will be licensing the anime for release in the US market.
Sentai plans to make the 25-episode series available on DVD and Blu-ray in 2012. The show will also be digitally distributed "soon through many outlets," but no specific release window was given.
Just like the game it is based upon, the anime follows main character Yu Narukami as he joins up with eight other teenagers to solve the mysterious murders and kidnappings in the town of Inaba. The show will be directed by Seiji Kishi (director of Angel Beats!) and the soundtrack will be composed by Shoji Meguro (composer for the recent Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series).
The Persona 4 brand isn't just getting an anime adaptation; there is also an upcoming 2D fighting game set two years after the original's story and developed by Arc System Works of Guilty Gear and BlazBlue fame. A PlayStation Vita port of Persona 4 will also be released next spring in Japan. The title will have more in-game voice work, as well as new animated cutscenes and wireless support features.
Strange, and what about persona 3, would be easer and better for them because story is more interesting( I think), but P4 is ok too, I guess in the 3 series the ending is not so good for anime series, but a lot of japanese games, anime make a final "main character sacrifice'' like onimusha dawn of dreams or rainbow(who knows, maybe P4 is better because of theme with TV's))
Oh man, I only hope they retain the same voice actors in the English dub. Well, we'll still (hopefully) get the P4 fighting game and the remake for Vita. Not to mention the long-waited Persona 5. So I'm not complaining.
well its one great game - not sure ill watch it though but its the first vita game announced that interested me - even though its a port i just loved that universe and game so anything added to it would be great on the other hand i really wish persona 5 is out for ps3/xbox360 in the soon future
Nice, I never get that interested in most games plot and story line but with Persona it is the best part of the game.
Hmmm.....even though i'm American, i prefer subbed to dubbed when watching anime as opposed to when playing video games. I may not understand a word of Japanese, but for some reason it just sounds better. Hopefully they will give both options, but in either case i will be keeping an eye out for it's release. PSVita might just be worth it for Persona 4 alone....incredible game.
So what if it's subbed or dubbed. Either way, it should turn out to be a good series, one should hope.
I wonder if Cartoon Networks Adult Swim will start airing Persona 4 since they show really good Anime such as Cowboy Bebop, death note, Bleach, and the Gundam series. But ether way I will be keeping my eyes on the Blu-Ray in 2012.
As to those saying i hope they dub it @HollowNinja , actually reading the article would really help you. This is why i don't post here as much. "Reach out to the truth in English next year" Hmm hope you can figure that out.
Hopefully Madman Entertainment or Siren Visual can also get a lisence of this so they could bring the anime into Australia :D
I'm guessing they're going to use the original video game voice actors for this one. Hopefully, they change Chie's voice though.
I prefer getting a subbed version of the original japanese anime instead. . . English dub has failed me too many times.
Just a heads up theanimenetwork.com will be legally simulcasting the series with subtitles starting oct 6 hulu will get it the day after but TAN video player is ad free and in HD. Edit: free users need to watch it within 24 hours as it switches over to using hulu player after that unless you pay so bookmark this page and every Thursday at 3pm eastern time is when a new episode comes out. http://www.theanimenetwork.com/Anime/Persona-4/Info
@ABEzilla116 Did you JUST SAY that SMTDSO has good voice acting?!? Seriously?!? That was the first thing I switched off. It's awful. Really really really really bad.
Bout 90% of anime are better subbed, mainly because there's only about 6 voice actors they use (Yuri Lowenthal, Vic Mcderpaderp etc etc), so every show sounds the same as each other. They're not bad, but its really annoying to have every single blonde character be voiced by the same person (Vic), even though the characters are hugely different. Although some dubs are fantastic. Hellsing Ultimate had better voice acting in the english release than the japanese one, and there are a few others too.
I might have to take a look, I haven't played any of the Persona's because of my lack of a PS2 system recently, but I love the soundtracks and enjoy any anime series with less than 50 episodes (which can be challenging to find nowadays). Here's hoping for the best.
I'm hoping they bring back people like Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker and Laura Bailey to do the english dub
