MTV Games and Seattle grunge metal troupe open up voting fan-selected live edition of Harmonix's rhythm game.
When Pearl Jam reissued its seminal album Ten in March, MTV Games and Harmonix collaborated with the grunge rockers to offer a playable version through Rock Band. Now, MTV Games and Harmonix are teaming up with Pearl Jam once more on a "Pearl Jam Rock Band project" that will feature live cuts from the band's entire catalog. Platforms for the project were not revealed, though it is slated to arrive in 2010.
The exact nature of the Pearl Jam Rock Band project remains a mystery, with neither MTV Games nor Pearl Jam giving any indication as to whether the game will be a downloadable album, an AC/DC-style retail product, or a The Beatles: Rock Band spin-off. However, the publisher did promise to provide more details on the project next month, presumably around the time that the Electronic Entertainment Expo descends on Los Angeles on June 2.
Until then, Pearl Jam has invited its fan-club members to select their favorite live performances of more than 40 different catalog hits through the band's official Web site. By way of a Rhapsody playlist widget, fans can listen to hundreds of different live performances of individual songs, with the versions that are played the most times being selected as the best.
In June, the selection process will be opened up to everyone, with fans tasked with building their own favorite setlists from the previously selected top tracks for the Pearl Jam Rock Band project. However, MTV Games did not indicate how many tracks will be included with the final project, promising only to provide more details in the coming weeks.

I love pearl Jam and anything to do with Grunge music... But it would be awesome if Harmonix makes a Rock Band:Alice in Chains!!!!!!!! now that would be epic. =)
why pearl jam? why not MUSE??? if Harmonix haven't been checking their forums lately (and i mean in the past 2 years) they might have missed the 1080+ page monster thread (biggest one on the RB forums) asking for Muse DLC. it's pretty obvious what the fans want. either give us heaps of Muse DLC or an entire game!
Can't wait for The Beatles.... but Pearl Jam? Why not just take the time and save money to get the rights or something for Led Zeppelin? That would be a huge it. I do like the live aspect of it though, but it would be better if that was added as an option.
what? rock band the beatles is good aready. now pearl jam? there not even that good. His voice sounds werid. sounds like someone who smoked a fuuuccck load of blacks (not people)
I can understand Rock band: Beatles because they're so iconic, but Pearl Jam has like... 3 good songs, GH: Aerosmith flopped and Metallica is just a big, fat money grabber, they could have released those songs as DLC instead of having a whole game for it.. but then again this is the way our economy works, everyone milks everything until it runs dry.
Aerosmith ok, Metallica Definately, but pearl Jam? come on these guys arent even good enought to get their own game. harmonix needs to stop copying activision and just make more DLC. thats rock bands strongest point.
Everyone should know about free music available at www.pandora.com (radio) and the Logitech Squeezebox. For some people now, it's probably the only music they listen to other than what is at their computer. CDs? I don't know anymore, I rarely buy CDs honestly, but I'm sure there are people who do.
Cool....I love Pearl Jam....Never bought a Rock Band title before but I'd seriously consider buying this one for PS3
wheres weezers blue album and pinkerton? wheres dookie and american idiot (jesus of suburbia on drums=epic)? wheres the rest of nirvanas nevermind? wheres led zep? white stripes anyone? they have time to put nickelodeon songs in the game and make a stupid extra pearl jam disc when it can just be dlc, but they cant put more good stuff in. lego rock band?!?!?!?!? wtf?!?!?
It's cheaper than downloading them. As long as they are exportable, like the past ones, this is great. Unlike GH, the songs can still all be played through the original Rock Band disc. I think a lot of people here have no clue what they're talking about. A lot of you, like otanikun, are saying you would rather pay MORE. The only downside is there might be a few songs you don't want. Otanikun, they might be earning extra money from this, but WE'RE playing less. So far, the AC/DC one was the only track pack with a higher price per song than DLC, and that changed pretty fast.
It's funny I saw Peter Moore in an interview on EP Daily saying that they want to find a way to stop producing games on "Disc's" and BAM! another waste of a Disc. Aerosmith, Metallica, Beatles and Pearl Jam all have or getting their own version of something that they have no Idea will be selling for $19.99 used 10 months after it's release. These music companies think this will save them because no one is buying CD's anymore? and concerts for these bands would cost the price of the game...FIND AND SIGN GOOD NEW ARTISTS! Not all bands want to be rich like U2... Maybe well see this at E3 2009 Activision's GH: U2.......
And thus we condemn Rock Band to the ages, unfortunately it has gone the way of Guitar Hero and is killing it's own brand; like an unruly guest at a home that's overstayed his/her/it's welcome. Harmonix, your money is in your Downloadable Content that you're providing constantly for Rock Band 2, not in creating off shoot content from the same franchise to gain extra cash from something that should be DLC to begin with (although I myself am not a huge Pearl Jam fan anyway) But my point still stands; if you want to contribute in killing the music game genre like Activision has, then more power to you, but I am willing to bet more than anything, that people will either get tired of music games pretty soon, or people will no longer care come a few years from now.
personally, im sick of rock band altogether. ever since mtv has released this game, they have tried to make them a viable gaming publisher by this, come on, rock band beatles now, then rock band pearl jam? whats next? rock band: *n'sync? backstreet boys? mtv(i know you pay attention because you and gamespot are under the same corporate umbrella) if you want to give us a reason to cut off our xboxes playstations and wiis, drop our ds' and psp's SHOW MUSIC! SHOW VIDEOS MAYBE THEN YOU WONT HAVE TO MAKE GAMES LIKE THIS! games like this signify a damn fad. rock band and gh are fun, but after awhile they become boring, and rock band(and harmonix and mtv) is driving this genre into the ground!
If this is a downloadable album for Rock Band 2, then I'll get it. Otherwise, no thanks. I'm done buying more music game discs.
So, what took them so ling? For a band that bootlegged their own concerts (professional, soundboard recordings) and sold them in stores for less than a bootleg would cost... ya figure they would have jumped on this marketing bonanza alot sooner.
"I like Pearl Jam but make a Nirvana or Grunge themed Guitar Hero or Rock Band game" Don't do that, we want a challenging game. Anyway, i had a gigantic grin appear across my face after reading this.
Coming up next. Miley Cyrus Rock band... Come on its enough of the different bands just make it DLC!! like they promised it would be.
invadernick, Nickelback is the kind of bands that put the real deal in the shadows. @£?! mainstream.
I hope it's a track pack. Pearl Jam is good and all, but aside from the fact that the market is already being stuffed with band-centric games, Pearl Jam doesn't come to mind as being so good as to getting one. Not saying they're not good, just that they're maybe not quite good enough.
all these different bands are getting overkill. Stop trying to make a profit off of this crap and move on to something new. This could very easily just be downloaded.
This is a joke. What was so wrong with Harmonix just releasing new DLC every week like they do now? I'd rather pay 2000 points for a big tracklist, or a game addon that works a lot like these band-centric spinoffs. Buy the addon, select it in the game, and you're playing the same thing as you would going to the store buying these overpriced cash-ins. And only one or two games every console gen, not 10 or 20.
Damnit, we don't need a new Rock Band for every friggen band, just do what you've already been doing and sell them as DLC albums, or at least make them like the AC/DC pack and allow merging the content to the 'main' Rock Band games. The more separate games they release, the more they look to be 'milking' the franchise as badly as Activision is doing to their old Guitar Hero project, and the more they fragment the online community by splitting up which edition of Rock Band they're playing.
i think this is getting a bit carried away. In a few years, every band will have a RB/GH game. and it is pearl jam, do they really deserve their own game. Nirvana was a better band in the grunge genre. They should make genre based games, with Metal, Rock, PopRock, Punk, Grunge etc... instead of band themed.
