last comment: BTW on WoW some people might not leave due to large amount of time, effort, money invested on a character. leaving WoW now will be devastating and depressing. and just paying for another 15$ monthly on another MMPOG that will divide time. is simply has nothing else better to do than waste money.
[UPDATE] Funcom confirms classic-fantasy-inspired MMORPG in production prior to May 20 launch; $50 game will cost $15 per month to play.
Before his untimely suicide in 1935, author Robert E. Howard said the "Hyborian Era" that his stories featuring Conan the Barbarian was set in took place about 12,000 years ago. Ironically, the period following the 2005 announcement of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has also felt like an eon, thanks to several delays.
In the end, though, PC gamers will end up only having to wait three years and 10 days for the massively multiplayer game. Developer Funcom has announced Age of Conan has gone gold and is already in production. The game will launch the US on May 20 for $49.99 with a $14.99 monthly subscription fee. In Europe, the game will cost €49.99 ($79.38) with a subscription fee of €12.99 ($20.62).
[UPDATE] Citing a Funcom report to investors, GameSpot originally reported that Age of Conan would retail for $59.99 in the US. "The Standard game SKU will have a Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of 59,99 USD (sic) in North America and at 49.99 Euro in the European markets," according to the report. (Emphasis added.) However, most retailers list the game as selling for $49.99. GameSpot regrets the error.
In a memo to investors, Funcom outlined its launch strategy for Age of Conan. The company is prepared for up to 600,000 "active subscribers" to be on its servers during the launch period of the game, which begins as a traditional role-playing game before segueing into an open-world MMORPG. As the title suggests, the game will be set during the Hyborian Era, during the period when Conan the Cimmerian had gone from being a warrior, thief, and pirate to the king of the fictional state of Aquilonia.
Funcom has made provisions to add servers to Age of Conan over the two to six weeks after launch, should there be sufficient demand. The Norwegian studio believes it will, saying "the pre-order numbers in some important retail chains track as among the highest for any MMOG launched." However, Funcom did not give specific numbers of preorders, saying it only had "some pre-order data" from "different retail chains in various markets."
With its distribution and publishing partner Eidos Interactive, Funcom "expects to spend from 12 percent and upwards of [its] anticipated gross revenues from the game on marketing and related activities." Again, it did not give any specific estimate as to what those revenues would be--nor did it offers any updates for the Xbox 360 version of the game, which is still officially scheduled for release later this year.
In my point of view it won't hurt to try this game for year. 230$(US) sometimes you need to spoil yourself just a little. after that one year all the items you work hard on will just vanish or you might decided to continue. In other word "230$ vs Fun for a Year" then disappear! just like wow and the rest of MMPOG. I hope my comment help some of you decided
Game Estimate Price 50.00 plus 15$ Month. When you play for a year you pay 180$ plus game cost = 230$ in a year. Most players normally stay on MMO on 3 Years until a better MMPOG comes out so = 590$ in 3 years. For all those who can afford it. It might be the best thing that happened in your n00b life. And for those that cannot afford it well GuildWars is always alternative that leave extra cash in your pocket
Ur dumb happy. 15$ a month is a standard fee for most MMO's like world of warcraft and city of heroes/villains. 15$ is way to much for WoW but AoC is more than worth it
It is always entertaining to see the amount of surprise from people that there is going to be a monthly fee for an mmo. Theres been how many mmos ove the last decade and all but 1 or 2 had a monthly fee.
AoC will wipe the floor with world of farmcraft. I played WoW for 3 and a half years and it's becoming the most tedious, boring MMO I've ever played. There is no point to WoW anymore, they bring nothing new to the table. AoC is an entirely different game with an entirely new approch to combat among other things. You think people won't leave farmcraft for this? Think again.
Well to add to the comments about price.. I work part time as a intern and go to school full time. I have a $1000 dollar apartment, a car (car insurance and gas) a cell phones to pay for, internet, food to pay for and I'm married so a wife to pay for too (I suppose she works part time too) and even then I could afford $15 a month, heck I will probably keep my $15 a month subscription to EVE Online. Like someone said, you go to a movie twice in one month and that is your $15 game fee... With gas and a meal or a GF/BF and you are probably spending $30 just for one movie... So quit complaining. If you don't like it THEN DON'T BUY IT! Edit: forgot to add, they really need a Report a Stupid comment button... ;)
come on people, really, you cant cough up 15$ a month. im not rich i, work part time, 8 bucks an hour . i pay for clothes, gas, car insurance, and when i graduate high school, college. 15 bucks, THATS NOT ALOT. you have to be dirt poor to complain. and if u are, why r u playing video games, you need to pay for somthing else that matters, like ur house. And come on, standard price for games in the US is $60, its just the market. you got to remember that the price is set at however much people are willing and able to spend. and yes, people are willing to pay $60.
I will choose this over WAR for 2 reasons: A) Evolved combat system - offers complexity and twists, makes every battle different, and brings action... I hate that i got a rogue in wow and most of my swings/attacks look like a kid playing with a sugar cane.. B) Time of release. I prefer to get my hands on a game that will constantly get feedback especially at the first stages of release, so that it can be improved, its much faster than any last minute open/closed beta, more people will have the chance to play it as well as new content can be added as time passes. The only drawback to this game is its price..50?? How more expensive will games get..
Like the game rating is gonna reduce the amount of crappy users.Like age really has anything to do with intelligence.Just a simple observation that i find hilarious.
I'm sorry, for all Tor's fancy expressions and attempt to write something interesting, I find myself constantly backtracking to understand what he's actually writing- developing a headache in the meantime.
hey bojan_sokol, don't forget, since Euro's are worth more than U.S. dollars that means that people that earn Euro currency make more than people in the U.S. in a way. that is if to say someone that uses Euro's makes 50,000 euros a year like a person in the U.S. makes 50,000 dollars a year.
Yes, in all 11 players from our wow guild are leaving, 7 to try age of conan and 4 more for warhammer online if it ever gets released...I have pre-ordered my copy and am downloading that 13 gig file for the beta :)
Quite a lot of wow friends are switching over to this game. Just so damn tired of wow lately. This should be a blast to play!
Yeah, the quote about the pre-order numbers being some of the highest for any MMORPG launched, may be valid. Today I pre-ordered my own copy, but had to go through a tedious game of phone tag between Gamestop's and EBGames around my area. Basically, no more pre-orders for the Special Edition were being taken, so I had to dish out the $90 dollars to Wal-Mart.com straight up front to get it...So who knows. I'm just hoping that the start user base will be large. The more people the better. And thank God the game is rated M, and costs money. Say goodbye to the pre-pubetic voices that make you want to kill babies!
why same price in Europe and USA? 50 euros is not 50 $ and for those that think 60 $ is too much from the standard 50$ you're paying, face the facts that dolar is weaker currency from 2-3 years ago
Fees never stopped kids from playing MMOs before. And neither did blood, gore and nudity, despite parents.
>Pretty happy with this. Monthly fees mean kids need parental consent to >a larger degree. Any parent who knows anything about Conan wouldn't >let their kid play. Great. AMEN !
Pretty happy with this. Monthly fees mean kids need parental consent to a larger degree. Any parent who knows anything about Conan wouldn't let their kid play. Great. Fees also mean a well maintained game. I'm in... WoW was old a couple of years ago, time to move on to the next gen. ...oh, and thanks for the meaningless comment ciaxhieu.
Ah makes me happy to see that gamespot said they made a mistake about the prices and fixed it. I love it =D
Crap charge me $100.00 for the game and $20.00 a month , its still cheaper than driving to see 2 movies and dinner a month =) gas is gonna be like $6.00 a gallon... this is ultra cheap entertainment if u ask me.
1.6 Will there be a subscription fee to play? Yes, there will be a monthly subscription fee. While the final subscription fee has not been announced, it will likely follow industry standards. The first 30 days of gameplay will come free when you purchase the retail box. -Read their site a little closer if the general F.A.Q.'s slipped past you with them stating it was going to have a subscription fee.
Yeah ppl quit smoking that ganja dub sets at dawn and for breakfast and brunch lol and you can afford more then just the monthly fee ($15) my thought get one month access then see if its good enough for the fee if it is witch ill think it will be then you take one moth at a time, poor folks if your complaining of 15$ you rig is probably bogus as well and if it is so then why you waisting my upper extremities from typing away fool. nothing is free anymore wall street announced the avergae price/ gallon will be $7 today in four years from now. That $120 for a 3 liter! anyway be smart and enjoy life!
ryo_strife24, totally agreeing with ya lol, people who cant afford $15(£7.50)/month should maybe buy 2 less beers at the pub tonight.
I agree with ryu_strife24. I'm a 19 year old college student who hasn't worked in four months and $15 a month is still nothing. If you find 2 quarters on the ground everyday then you can pay for it.
@ Ryanweinmann I have a $900 rent, electric, gas, and phone/internet to pay for also. Plus I'm paying back college loans and a few other things, and $15 is STILL nothing to me. You fail
See all the people saying that $15 a month is nothing, prob all rich anyways. See, there people have to pay bills, pay for college and other stuff.
[UPDATE] Funcom confirms classic-fantasy-inspired MMORPG in production prior to May 20 launch; $50 game will cost $15 per month to play. Thats better, $50 = £25(Normal) & $15 = £7 (Good price!), hopefully the prices stay the same in the UK :)
This game is amazing! I've played EQ, SWG, FFXI, GW, lineage2, WoW and I have to say it's better then all of them. $15 a month is nothing. From my experience playing an MMO saves you money because you spend less money on other fleeting forms of entertainment.
wasnt directed as u specifically, i played the pvp beta aswell... pvp seemed bugged to me *shrug*, hopefully patches etc will solve the issues.... the game has potential, ive never played GW but i think thats a lobby/game system doesnt it? (8 players per game etc, goto a certain area (town) to find people & then enter a game with just the group & no1 else. also i believe guild wars pays for itself from releasing multiple expansion packs at £20 a time, which granted WoW does aswell but theres a distinct quality differance between them.
OMG! Let me grab my umbrella from all the crying and a flame shield from all the whiners. First off I give a nod to DunkelEnte's comments. If you have a job where you make $5 a hour working full time then you'll be pulling $800 before Uncle Sam pimps you out and gets his cut. Even then you should still have more than enough for a $60 game, and $15 month is chump change. Seriously $15 a month......is a pizza. Come on people, if you can afford $15 a month then you need to either get a job or get a better one. Then again I make $20 a hour so $15 a month is nothing to me. I'm not trying to brag but 70% more than likely got $15 sitting in your wallet right now. I may check out AoC since I just started playing WoW in January and everybody and their mom is level 70 but me. ;p And here come the flames and thumbs downs, bring it on!
I'm not sure if you are aiming your comment at me, but I wasn't talking about the price. All I am saying is this game is GW with a different back story and GW is free. From what I have played in the beta it doesn't bring much of anything new to the table. The town raids might be interesting but Shadowbane proved that it has to be done right and right now I'm not sure if they have.
The amount of ignorance here is obscene, "Drop the monthly fee!! Gold diggers!" - every real-MMO charges a monthly fee to maintain servers & keep new comment going. "Too much for a WoW clone" - Err this is probably the first & only MMO coming out this year that isnt a WoW Clone. And i agree $60 (£30, roughly) is too much for a MMO, generally fresh released MMO's are about £20-25 + 1 month free subscription included, but here in the UK prices still say £25, so i dont know what thats about. £11/month is a bargain, if your an xbox 360 fan chances are u buy a new game once a month, get bored of it in a week (£40 gone)... MMO's keep u entertained for 6months or more, and have massive patches etc regularly, MMO's that dont have monthly fee's are usually very unstable & filled with spy/ads etc to make up there money, or charge fee's for good items (i.e Damage 1-3 sword, is free & Damage 3-20 sword requires a £15 payment)
Honestly, if you're complaining about $15 a month, or the fact that you're paying the innitial $60, look at the general cost of games. It's $60 for any new Xbox360 game, it's not like it's new unfair pricing for new entertainment. For the monthly fee, look at it broadly. If you pay for a movie twice a month where I live, it's roughly $18 for two tickets in the evening. Raw intellectual entertainment, just like a video game. Now, by comparison, sure a movie offers things you talk about with friends and it brings boasting rights. So does an MMO, except the range may not be as broad, alright. The biggest difference lies in the fact that paying $3 less than a movie, you have no real time restrictions to when you can play. If 2am suits you then fine, great, grand, it's all yours. A movie, you don't have that time opportunity. Most of all, with 30 days worth of a gameplay opportunity, you can sit for however long you wish and not necessarily miss out on anything. If you see two movies in a month you average about 4 hours of linear entertainment. This game, if you sat down for 15 minutes a day over the course of the 30 days you will obtain 7.5 hours of entertainment at your leisure. If you chose to play more, you have every opportunity. For a source of entertainment in the current economy, $15 is a pittance in comparison to other entertainment sources.
Lemme seee. $50 for the game, $180 a year to play.... I think I'll keep my $230, or buy a Sierra game and play on-line for free.
another thing when you preorder games at least from my xp they tell you or its in fine print that if the games price goes up you will need to pay the difference. i may be wrong but the last few games i preordered i was told this.
i can see complainen bout the 60 dollar box price but if ypoyu play wow its 15 less u buy 3 monts 6 months or yr then the price will drop i am sure this company will be doen the same thing besides if they do not i will play hell i have a wow account i pay for that i have yet to play for over a month now. so i will cancel my wow account and play aoc see which is better. same thing when warhammer comes out i will cancel whatever account i liked best between wow and aoc to try warhammer. i mean stop whinen bout the monthly charges.
dude, your preachin to the choir. i don't understand why people get into pc gaming and then **** beacuse it cost so much money. then piracy takes over.
I do find it humorous that people are complaining about 15 a month. Unless you are working at Mickey D's you should be able to afford it. Even if you are working at Mickey D's you should be able to afford it. In Cali a 40 hour a week paycheck is about $728 a month. I base this on $6 an hour minus 30% for taxes. At that payscale I'm sure the person is either living with mommy or daddy or is sharing a place with one or more roommates. What i'm getting at is 15 a month really is not that much money for those with working brain matter. If you really are so dumb as to not be able to get a good job you really shouldn't be playing games. (Note: This is directed towards those who consider themselves adult enough to make it on their own. Those still in HS or College are not my intended targets. Although even they should be able to afford 15 a month. )
