um sir I was just wondering when are we going to play a New ((traditional)) Resident Evil ?!!!!!! a Resident Evil that's a Real survival horror
Series director said to be ramping up production on fifth horror film based on Capcom's long-standing franchise; Milla Jovovich on board.
In May, the rumor mill churned out speculation that Milla Jovovich would star as Alice in a fifth Resident Evil movie called Retribution, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Now, a new report has word on the project, backing up everything that was rumored.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the new Resident Evil flick is indeed titled Resident Evil: Retribution and stars Jovovich as Alice. Anderson will direct the movie based on the screenplay that he penned. Additionally, the report suggests Retribution will see Alice globetrotting to destinations like Canada and Japan.
Lastly, the report suggests that Sienna Guillory--who was reportedly set to play Jill Valentine--is no longer with the project and that a replacement is currently being cast. Retribution will reportedly be filmed in 3D and is slated to hit theaters on September 14, 2012.
The most recent Resident Evil movie was Resident Evil: Afterlife, which debuted in September 2010. It has grossed nearly $300,000,000 worldwide according to statistics from Box Office Mojo.
The next Resident Evil game will be Slant Six's Resident Evil: Raccoon City, a squad-based third-person shooter. Capcom expects to sell 2.5 million units of the game, and it's scheduled for release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 this winter.
I LOVE the RE movies and I'm a DIEHARD RE fan since RE1. I know many fans dont like the films and what not BUT they are entertanining and is that not what movies are made for in the first place? Milla is F...n hot and sexy and I love her in these movies and lets get the facts straight. This is the ONLY video game franchise in terms of moves thats still making money and going beyond 3 movies, I'm not expecting them to be just like the video game stories cuz if I want to see that then I may as well play the games instead. I will be there opening day to see any and all RE movies by her. :D
H8 on the film series all you want, but it's still going strong! I'll admit, I stopped seeing these movies in theater after the second one (which happens to be my favorite out of the whole series). But, I'm interested to see where they're going with this, and if Jill is in the story, I'm so down for it! I LOVE Jill! Also, of course I was pissed when I say the direction they were going with the films, but I must say- imagine how pissed we'd be if we payed 18 dollars to see THE EXACT SAME SCENES we saw in the video game, just live action. I say this to say, hey, be happy Anderson isn't Uwe Boll, or else we'd have a REAL virus to deal with....
Let see what will this movie will gonna offer to us... I don't have any expectation when seeing this kind of movie, just treat this as any Hollywood Zombie shoot and kill movie with glamour and stunning effect Hollywood Style. And i bet this movie will gonna put Leon in here since he is the only guy who didn't put in previous Resident Evil Move. I wonder who will play Leon???
@punksterdaddy I'm not saying that these are the best movies ever but i still love them for what they are and who honestly watches a zombie movie for plot? and i'd much rather hear metal music during a fight scene because to me it is more fitting to killing then techno
@Steel_Rain777 There is an animated movie out now... I had it on my page via You Tube a few months back. I kept forgetting to watch it and I now just remembered after reading your post here. I do know that it has nothing to do with the B-movie Hollywood version's lame story arcs... Let me know if you find it or indeed if you go searching for it?
The best one of these movies was Apocalypse... the others that followed were simply awful! @ztg360 That is quite true, game plots and movie plots need to be different but the stories don't? As I said above, the only one of the last four films that had anything of interest in regards of a good storyline, was the 2nd film. The rest are poor at best!! I really hate how, at any point where is a slight bit of action, no matter how small the action may be...? They have to cram in, really dodgy Techno beats to make it more adrenaline fuelled? Why do it? It just sounds crap and cheap!
All of you whom are bashing these movies, think for a second how terrible it would be if they followed the games even remotely closely. what do you do in these games you try and figure out what happened but its more of a go from point a to point b with obstacles which wouldn't work in a movie (at least plot wise)
I know i'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed every single one of the RE movies. They had just the right amount of campiness, but cool action and I have a soft spot for Milla jovovich. I like pretty much anything she's in. Yes, even Ultraviolet. Go ahead....begin the bashing. lol.
@eyerok Amen brother. Personally, I don't get why everyone said the 4th movie was terrible. I mean sure, I'd have liked to see more of the various Alices doing their thing in Japan--which pretty much all signs pointed to the movie being about--but I still enjoyed it, and it just goes to show that Anderson isn't afraid to constantly change the movies themselves. (RE 1 was an underground fight for survival among a very small group of survivors; Apocalypse was a more action-oriented retelling of the 2nd and 3rd games; Extinction was a post-apocalyptic tale--and one that probably more accurately reflects what the T-virus would do to our world; and the 4th film is a somehow brighter look at the dead world of the last film combined with the more crushing circumstances of the first film.) I'm just sad that Anderson caved to fan pressure. I love Alice's character and wish she'd kept her powers. For all the talk of her ruining the scares, it's apparently lost that she is NOT superwoman; just an experiment with a couple abilities that drain her significantly when used. And emotionally, she's got more depth than I think people want to acknowledge.
@camverge Correction. I had a brain slip. Claire plays a PROMINENT part in the 3rd and 4th films. WHOOP! LOL :)
@camverge Bones? Who's Bones? I recognize the others, but not Bones. I'm not sure what movie your friend was watching. Chris plays a significant role in the last film. As for Claire, Veronica, and Leon Kennedy...wait, those characters haven't shown UP yet, so comparing them to Chris makes no sense at all. Now I'll admit that my comparison was probably not completely valid, but even if it's not, the underlying point still stands IMO. People cannot spend all kinds of time screaming about wanting something, proclaiming it should be easy math and simple as hell to create what they want--or even, as they continue to claim, something "original"--and then turn around and ***** when they get it. And Star Trek is a clear example of the hypocrisy of the vocal consumers. How many of the people who saw and enjoyed the reboot of Star Trek were on the frontlines screaming about wanting new, original IPs and ideas in the film industry? I'm guessing a substantial number. Star Trek is NOT an original film, yet it gets all kinds of praise from everyone complaining about a lack of original stuff. This sort of contradictory BS is present EVERYWHERE in entertainment, and if I worked in the industry, I probably would have "rage quit" a minimum of 40 times by now.
While I've never actually demanded a movie based on a video game/comic to follow the source material verbatim (x-men and batman begins, dark knight good examples of great comic movies) There is still an expectancy to stay true to the source material. In this regard, the resident evil movies are all horrible. I can not stand milla jovovich, the last good movie I saw her in was the messenger where I think she did a fantastic job. I understand if they didn't want to use the characters from the games as main protagonists, they could have easily made it about what was happening parallel to the events of the game (what your average citizen was doing for example during the events of RE 2, and no i don't mean forgettable side characters like mike epps either) but nope, we gotta go with the pyro and telekinetic super woman who somehow by the last film managed to get an entire army of herself somehow killed off. This series need to die.
Video game movies suck, even the good ones are bad by movie standards. Movie video games suck, even the good ones are bad by game standards. I'm beginning to sense a correlation here...
The third movie was actually pretty good, and proved that they dont have to stick to the video games to make a good movie (RE games have a crapy storyline anyway). But then the most ridiculous thing happened with the fourth movie; under fan pressure, Anderson changed the whole direction of the movies and tried incorporating story elements direct from the game. The result was an atrocity, that too when Anderson was actually starting to take the whole movie series in a positive direction. Whats more ironic is that his greatest critics, the video game fans, criticized him even more. Fans will be fans.
Why can't they make a resident evil movie based off...I don't know, Resident F#$$^ing Evil?!? Seriously this Paul W.S Anderson is literally Uwe Boll, and why has Capcom just allowed these terrible films to be made that have nothing to do with the source material. And Milla Jovavich...her character needs to die already. Never a mention in the game yet, she's in every damn movie. it's like putting Goku in a batman movie. Maybe they'll make an animated movie/series that actually follows the storyline, but right now Hollywood is just destroying any video-games they can get a hold of. Thankfully Mark Wahlberg won't be Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie...but who knows, They'll probably cast Eddie Murphy for the role and Joel Schumaker as the director... The only reason I rage on this, is cause RE is one of my favorite franchises RE4 and prior...Seeing how these movies just keep being spewed onto the public and the mediocre RE5, I think Capcom just doesn't give two S#@^ts about Resident Evil, they're to busy releasing more expansions for Street Fighter 4
These movies are terrible by any objective measure. Still, they're a fun diversion and I geek out when I see things from the games in the movies. If they're profitable (and the last one was insanely so) they're probably going to keep making them ad infinitum.
thefinsters you want to know why thay suck? 1 thay have nothing to do with re 2 Alice is way to strong makeing the films boring why fear anything with some one as strong as her around. and 3 im 100% with you on the games re4 was good but re5 was trash i miss the old ture re feel that 1-code had
Hopefully it won't suck as hard as RE 4 Afterlife did. RE1 was decent, RE 2 was HORRIBLE, RE 3 seemed like a step in the right direction and is probably the best one...then the steaming turd that is RE 4 was foisted upon us. Ugh. Thankfully, I haven't bothered wasting $$$ on any of these in the theater since the 1st one, and that won't be changing with #5. Netflix it baby.
The only Resident Evil movie I liked was Resident Evil 2. I enjoy the 3D ones, but I only allow myself to watch them in their native Japanese language because American Voice Dubs blow something fierce.
I think the films and the games should all be rebooted. The scariest zombies are the ones you can't explain. As soon as the zombies are explained in the first RE game as the victims of a manmade virus, they stopped being scary from my perspective. Sure, manmade viruses are scary, but not like corpses being spontaneously reanimated without the intelligence to separate instinct from action! Reboot the franchise! Give us corpses to fight, not corporations!
To all you people who simply state, "these movies suck", take a moment, grow up and think. You can't just write"it sucks".....you need to explain to the rest of us WHY it "sucks".saying "it sucks" doesn't count. Now to my opinion, i don't give a toss about the RE films, what I'm waiting for is another RE GAME that is "Survival Horrror".None of this 3rd person shooter nonsense that was RE5.I will back up my claim by stating that RE5 was to easy as everytime one died yoy had the option of re.jiggling your inventory.......now come on Capcom lets get RE6 a bit more like a cross between RE4 and Code veronica........
Paul W.S Anderson needs to stop casting his ugly ass wife in the films .............Alice sucks shes a buzz kill he needs to re make the first film but act follow the game. Paul W.S is not that bad its just hes being an ass clown when it comes to re that or hes hopeing to get his untalented wife somemore screen time
@cachinscythe It is A LOT different from the Star Trek re-boot... why? Your main characters are all there still aren't they? In this they bring in some character who has had NOTHING to do with the games, meanwhile the characters who started Resident Evil and made it the fantastic franchise it is are basically nowhere to be found except in stupid little support roles. I didn't even watch the last one, but I knew Chris Redfield was in it. I asked my friend who saw it "how was chris in the new RE movie?" and he replied "Who was Chris?" Same could go if I asked Leon Kennedy, Claire, Veronica, so on and so forth. Now in the Star Trek reboot if you asked about Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, guess what, people knew who you were talking about.
Of all the movies being re-launched, why the hell does this one get to keep going? STOP making this crap, I don't even understand why the use the movie term "Resident Evil". If it weren't for a couple of the creatures/villain characters I'd of never suspected these films to be Resident Evil films. It would be like making a Metal Gear movie and saying "Who the %*#@ is Snake? We got our own character who's going to own! He doesn't need to sneak or use tactical precision! We're going to give him drugs and enhance him to slow down time and barrell his way through enemies that were actually known in the game.
Milking a great franchise name dry with these crappy movies. I watched the first one in theaters and thought it was mediocre. They just started going downhill from there. I couldn't even finish watching Afterlife; I turned it off half way. They call it Resident Evil but it really has nothing to do with the games except for small scraps used from the actual games that tie them together in a miniscule way. As far as who is to blame, it doesn't matter. The damage is done.
I honestly I wish Hollywood would stop with these resident evil movies which do not follow the games properly at all. I understand some people may like them which is cool. But in my opinion, these movies have nothing if very little to do with the games. It would be nice if fans of the series could get a great resident evil movie with the characters that we know & love. If Capcom did these films I bet they would turn out better and the story would be awesome.
@penpusher Sorry I don't mean to sound angry. I have over the years become a bit miffed about several things gamers say and think, especially with regards to things they either know very little about or contradict themselves constantly over As for the films I won't deny your points have validity But I still stand by a lot of what I said. It's great that we the gamers can have fun with a story about a mansion infested with zombies and monsters but most of the populace going to the movies has seen films like that many times already. I personally think the reason WE enjoyed it so much was just because it was the first time a game genuinely tried to scare us. So we were more tolerant of the cliches. None of this makes the RE story bad. In fact, it's pretty good all things considered. But it STARTED in cliched territory When faced with either sticking to the source material of the first game or doing what W.S. Anderson has done, I think the latter is more interesting, particularly because in the beginning, he could just as easily have been telling a side story. The later games? Yeah, maybe those wouldn't be so bad to adapt NOTE: When Capcom agreed to license a movie based on the games the original writer created a script that DID stick to the source material. Capcom turned it down, saying they didn't like it. Along comes Anderson with HIS script and they sign on. Is anyone on here going to criticize CAPCOM for desecrating its own work? Like it or not, it is THEIR work to desecrate
more BS slow motion sexy super chick shot for the teenage boy to get crusties too. I mean everything under the sun is getting a reboot but we have to suffer the same old crappy resident evil movie plot by numbers BS? Reboot resident evil and stop paul w s anderson making god awful movies.
R.I.P Resident Evil franchise and RIP the masterpieces of RE 1 -2 -3 that were what really made this franchise stand for........
@solidsnake7882 I dont recall the world being ravaged by zombies in the games ... the fact that there are certain game elements in there mean nowt really, they're just kind of cherry picking good ideas to use in the movie for unrelated stories at this point
@cachinscythe dude first off chill the **** out please? Youre getting way to into this Second no I dont think its the only reason I just think if you took the name off and changed the character names no one would have even heard of it and if the movie isnt even going to resemble the games then why do they want the name? Thats part of the point surely to have a movie version of the game not just a movie with a games name?
Paul W.S. Anderson is getting on the Uwe Boll level of crap movies. I don't know how these movies keep getting made. Get a NEW director, NEW writers, and try to adapt one of the games into something that both fans of the series and random movie goers can enjoys.
I agree (Henninger) The movies sucked there was no sense the the main character could die. Id rather see a normal person fighting for their life then a super human. If any one says shes normal in afterlife, After Wesker used the anti virus on her. Is dumb no one with out some sort of power could have survived that plane crash. The games story lines are better even if some of it is a little off, "Jill sandwich" any one. So yeah def rather play the games then see another awful movie but that's just me.... The other thing that irked me was the Wesker Chris non-rivalry in afterlife. It was like a waste of time to put Chris in the movie he had like no real interesting parts and nothing special that made him stand out and as one of the main characters of the game series one would think he would have a bigger part to play in the movies.
These movies sucked. I think they should reboot the movies & go with the story from the games. I would love 2 c Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca, & every1 else who is in the original story 2 try & survive the mansion. & even throw in RE0 4 the 1st half hour or 45mins. I didnt like how they went from the tvirus 2 the las plagas without an explantion & still referred 2 them as zombies. But 2 each his/her own i guess.
I've always enjoyed these movies. They do follow the central plot of the games to a point. Sure they take liberties, events are changed to fit the movies but the central plot is there. Umbrella, the T virus even the new las plagas virus is there. The zombies and the other creatures look great I know they arent exactly the same as the games but IMO good enough.
With these movies I always thought they got it wrong by centering the story around a new character that had nothing to do with the original games. Then to see the actual game characters playing small support roles in later films was just the final nail in the coffin.
retribution? lol well they know how to at least make fun of themselves. maybe they can get back on track with this one.
