With the likes of Limbo, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, and Jamestown, it seems 2D gaming is undergoing somewhat of a resurgence. Developer D-Pad Studios has now entered the fray, recently announcing a new PC title called Owlboy, which is slated for a 2011 release. A demo of the game will be up on August 20.

Owlboy is a 2D platformer with a 2D sprite-based art style. Players control Owlboy as he explores the Floating Continent, navigate through deadly pitfalls and traps, and make use of his ability to fly and carry non-player characters to assist him. The game is billed as a "vertical platformer" with influences from Mario and Zelda affecting its game design.
