Origin for Mac now live

EA online store now available for Mac users worldwide; certain games allow dual-platform play across systems.

Origin for Mac has launched. Electronic Arts announced today that the virtual storefront has moved out of beta and has rolled out worldwide in full to all Mac gamers.

EA also announced today that certain company-published titles will support dual-platform play. These include The Sims 3 and Dragon Age II, with more to be added later.

Gamers can buy a title once through Origin and can play it on either Mac or PC. A similar offering is available on Origin competitor Steam.

The Mac game library includes titles from EA and its publishing partners like Warner Bros. and Sega. Games available at launch today include Dragon Age II, Batman: Arkham City, Lego: Harry Potter, and The Sims 3, among others.

Origin currently has 39 million members, compared to Steam's 50 million.

I guess if you are dumb enough to buy a mac, you are probably a big enough moron to actually want to install Origin.

I wish they did join, there might be  a slight chance that Megaman Legends 3 would have been made...

A machine and OS not really designed for gaming, matches with a online digital store (distributor) that is also not really designed for gaming, well sounds like a match made in hell.

Origin has 39 million members? You mean thousands, right?

@panndemic That number sounds impossible unless they mean potential customers or any traffic that has went to the site. Also steam seems impossible, of that many unique members I wonder what the tie or attachment rate it, as well as dollar amount.

@panndemic Turns out the having high selling franchises exclusive to your store makes people shop at it. Shocker right?

Garbage software for a joke of an operating system.

And not a single person cared that this garbage software became available for Mac.

Damn, Mac has become shitty again. Thanks Origin.

Life was better when you could just pop in a game and play it instead of having to launch another program before playing the game. I like buying games cheap on steam but if you buy a game on a disc in a shop I think you should have the right to bypass all that crap and just go directly to the game. It slows things down a lot and makes it a pain in the backside for all legitimate customers whereas someone who downloads a game illegally can probably bypass all that crap.

@quinnd6 That's why you get games from GoG or in some cases you can buy it and download from the company's website (Torchlight 1 for instance).

I only use Origin because EA forces me to when I buy retail games, which I do both because I'm a collector and have a slow internet connection.

Then do not support EA and don't buy anyway, otherwise they'll keep their useless garbage software like origin forever.

My collection of the Mass Effect series and Crysis series failed too, but I will not buy that games anyway because of origin. Be strong.

what? I cite "....has moved out of beta..." you meant "moved out of alpha" I presume? Origin (yes, even the one on PC much more so the one on Mac) is still in beta, all you need to do is read the upper right corner once logged into the client to confirm this...

Ahhhh, Origin....the reason I didn't pick up Mass Effect 3 for 20 bucks today.

AhvrenStone

@VenomousOne Origin.  The reason I pirated Mass Effect 3.
No worries, I bought a legal used copy for my xbox after deciding I liked the game...I only buy EA games used in an effort to better destroy that company.

The only reason Origin has so many users is because they are old EA accounts and people had to move to Origin for The Sims 3.

More like 39 million zombie accounts

@Sorciere_basic Spot on man. Perhaps not 39 milion, but a pretty large deal yes. I'll wager the number contains duplicate accounts created by same user, unused underaged accounts, old unused migrated accounts, etc.
