Abe's oddysee FINALLY made it on the European PSN. When's Abe's Exodus expected to do so though?? Dumped all of the recently released titles for the first one without a hitch...Nothin will ever be as genuine ever again. GIVE US EXODUS -> MUNCH's ODDYSEE -> STRANGER's WRATH...Xbox hogged on the last two for too long!
Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus joining list of original PlayStation games on PSN; side-scrolling adventure games to fetch $9.99 each.
When it was still a developer instead of a production company, Oddworld Inhabitants rose to prominence with its first games, a pair of side-scrolling adventures in the mold of Out of this World and Flashback. Those games, 1997's Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and 1998's Oddworld: Abe's Exodus, were two of the original PlayStation's most distinctive exclusive offerings.
Oddworld is hoping its classics still stand out from the crowd, as the company announced it is releasing both of Abe's original adventures on the PlayStation Network this Thursday. Like other original PlayStation titles on the downloadable game service, Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus will be playable on both the PlayStation 3 and the PSP.
However, the games will arrive with a slightly higher than average price tag. Where most original PlayStation games on the service sell for $5.99, Sony will charge $9.99 for each of the Oddworld titles. PC gamers looking to save some change can already grab the games from Valve's Steam store for $7.49 separately, or $9.99 together.
Great I have a PSP now, I still have my original games (which I still play on my PS2), but to be able to take Abe around in my pocket? YES!!!!!!!! $10 each? That's about £5 in real money, so yeah I'll be getting them.
I remember playing this game years ago on the pc. Ingenious gameplay. Still have it too. Too bad they didn't finish the series which was supposed to have roughly 8 sequels.
Since my previous post was gracefully deleted by the kids at Gamespot for having a cuss word(what a laugh), I repost my comment. Now what did I say... oh ya, emulators. Get yourself an emulator and play them for free. Only suckers pay for things like this, unless you want it on your PsP that badly. PS1 games shouldn't even cost money, they should just offer it as a free downable to PsP/PS3 owners, they'd make more money from people wanting the console for this reason, that's for sure.
I work overnights in an office. There are only three of us here. When I first took this shift I kept hearing these freakin sound effects & noises that were just killing me because A: I knew what they were but couldn't place them & B: I couldn't figure where exactly in the room they were from. Found out about 2 weeks ago that it is a co-worker who sits 2 rows away and was zonking out levels of, you guessed it; Abe's Odesee on his laptop. Good times. Now if only they would give Colony Wars the retro treatment. I buying both of these BTW. They are awesome.
@tremor33: if we're talking PS1 software, then all PS3s are backward compatible. You only come out ahead when it comes to PS2 software (and that's only until Sony decides they want to sell PS2 software on the PlayStation store).
Know what I REALLY wanna see????? Stranger's Wrath compatible on 360. THAT is what I'd like to see. They need to update that compatibility list again. It's been friggin years after all.
@ tremor33 ahhhh that depends if you actualy cared about saving them....my gf loves the abe games, she bought the first one about 2 months ago on playstation, she completed it....and only saved two in the whole game!!! useless
I still have both in working order and a bc ps3. Still... a great value for anyone who hasn't played these games. Abe got knocked out too early in the "greatest video game hero" poll imo. He didn't deserve to win, but come on... he saved his entire race from slavery and becoming food.
What's odd was I was just thinking about these game this morning hoping that they would come to PSN. I still own Oddysee, so I will just download Exodus.
I loved those games back in the day, Never had an Xbox though so couldn't play Munch's Oddysee or Strangers Wrath :(
abe is a classic! but i think playstation owners should be given a chance to play munches and strangers wrath too! because in all fairness strangers wrath was off the chain
That's a bit expensive, but these two games are classics and worth every penny, assuming you can look past well aging 2d graphics that aren't "zomg teh HDz."
Awesome games, but $9.99 each? That's just too much money.... I have the originals anyway and will just stick them in my 60gb PS3... I can't see me forking out $20 to play them on my PSP
Can't wait to play these!!!! Oh wait, I have them... along with all of my old PlayStation games. See kids, don't get rid of your old games because you'll just end up buying them again anyway. But don't worry, since this version is downloadable you won't be tempted to sell it this time... will you? You suuuuure won't. Nor will you loan it to anyone. Nope. I like my games on disc ... but hey, that's awesome for those that like that sort of thing. Oddworld is a great game.
@Darkness7089 Unfortunately, (although I use one myself) emulators are illegal. Gamespot's not going to acknowledge something that's illegal. And uh, Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, etc. would lose TONS of cash if they gave them out for free. Sony would've been back a good $100,000 if they hadn't of charged for FF VII. Just think about it logically.
I loved the "Stranger's Wrath" version of this series that was on XBOX, it was really cool and the story was awesome, heck i even drew up a concept art of the "Stranger" from one of my gaming magazines, if ever you decide to browse my profile, mainly the image section, i have it posted up there, i welcome all criticisms as it makes me improve on my drawing skills!! :)
I was, and still am, crazy about 32-bit and 64-bit games. The greatest games of all time were developed during those days. The Saturn, PS1 and N64 are GODS!
I have both PS1 copies still, I wish we could get the Xbox games because I never played Munches and loved Strangers Wrath.
@dukerav That would be amazing. But last time I heard, he was talking about going into film instead of games. Then again, this was a few years ago.
I would pay $15 for both. Not sure if i want to pay 10 each. Especially with Trine hitting this week as well.
@ expanded: "for anyone looking at a sequel.. they are making one.. i know i can't link you to it.. but i think i read it in the steampowered forums.. there was an interview of the creator.." I remember reading an issue of Game Informer a while back that had an article on an Oddworld game that was canceled along with a bit of concept art. Maybe this is what you are thinking of ? Unless what you read on the blog was more recent than the GI issue and or it possibly got picked up by a new publisher and has been on the boiler for a while.
Hmmm...if only there were a way to get Stranger's Wrath onto the PS3 (i know, I know, it was XBox exclusive) The Oddworld games are amazing.
Looks like that one guy who posted the "Top 10 PS1 games that deserve a place on PSN" got his wish. At least partially.
for anyone looking at a sequel.. they are making one.. i know i can't link you to it.. but i think i read it in the steampowered forums.. there was an interview of the creator..
this game .. is hard.. especially if you're trying to save everyone Q__Q. lol but .. i love this game. so many hours spent..
ten bucks is a bit much but damn, those games are awesome... I never got to play them beyond the demo, I had my PS1 a year before it got stolen and by then PS2 was out I kinda lost interest in old games after that, in the last few years I was playing a ton of older SNES and NES games, time enough has passed that there are a few old PS1 games I kinda wanna play again or check out...... Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain and Deception are 2 games I want to check out again.......
